I am switching this over to Lace Chat because of the content.

Can anyone 'walk me through' how to use BCC?
I use MSN Messenger and have not been able to find out how?
Or do I need to go to Microsoft tech support?
I think it is a very good idea and have wanted to use BCC for some time.

Re: [lace] new email address - sent to a address book

2003-10-25 Thread Jeriames
Dear Lacemakers,

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that it is possible to write
to everyone in your computer address book using a feature like the blind
carbon copy used in business for many years.

In other words, only the individual recipient sees their address - they do
not see the entire contents of your address book, as one message received today
made possible.

We all have problems with spam and junk mail. When a message appears with
everyone's address printed out, it gives an open door to anyone reading any
person's mail on the list. There are a lot of shared computers in homes and
businesses. I'd like to think that all friends are equal and protective. However,
everyone has heard of people with time on their hands to get into trouble,
which will mean more work for Web Masters like Avital.

This is as good a time as any to request that anyone who has my personal
e-mail address in their computer address book - please remove it. In return, I
maintain an old-fashioned paper address book of individual e-mail addresses to
protect your privacy.

Kind regards, Jeri Ames in Maine USA

It might also be timely to remind everyone that, if your computer is set to
save email addresses automatically when you receive an email, you can end up
with multiple copies of the same address in your address book.
When my Father died recently, he had 164 addresses in his address book (not bad
for a 94 year old!), but when I sifted through them, in reality there were 16
different entries.
My advice would be to only save the addresses that you *really* want, not those
from everyone who happens to send you a message once.
