Yep, Woolworths in the UK stock them as well as reece pieces which are like

It's become the in thing to describe anyone who is of retirment age as being
in the third age - ie childhood, adulthood, retirement simple because now
when people retire or near it they are not the old people that their parents
were.

We aren't restricted anymore by wearing certain clothes at a certain age, or

My father who is 82 didn't become any older in his activities or lifestyle

A couple of weks ago I decided to renew the bathroom carpet. It involved
laying the new 6ft x 6ft piece of carpet pile down on the living room
floor, lifting the old one and placing it on top of the new. Marked the two
large and three small holes that needed cutting with a felt-tipped pen, then
sat on the sofa and cut them out and cutt off the extra foot from the edge
that wasn't needed. (No, you can't swing a cat in my bathroom.) Placed the
new carpet on the bathroom floor. That little job took me two hours and I
was shaking with exhaustion. Dh came in from his bike ride just as I was
disposing of the old carpet in the dust bin. He just looked at me and said
You've overdone it again, haven't you.

That's the kind of thing that RA does to me that makes me feel old at times.
Very annoying and very frustrating. It doesn't help that my knee replacement
doesn't allow me to kneel down - it's like kneeling on a walnut, even on a
pile of pillows. I was warned about that, but naturally thought I'd be OK.

I don't look old (eg only have about 6 grey hairs - in fact it's darker than
when I was 20), but feel it at times. The viscious cycle of not being as
mobile as I was, so putting on weight, so not being so mobile
doesn't help.

The proper term, a loong-retired aquaintance assures me, is chronologically

That helps take out a bit of the sting, doesn't it? :)

Good story -- this reminds meMy dear grandpa was blind for many years. He
could see vague shapes very dimly when there was a strong contrast between
light and dark, but that was it.

Anyway, I remember him going on in his and my dear grandma's lot and digging
up a big stand of some big old nasty bushes by the roots. He did it by feel.

And another time, when there was a heavy snowfall, he went up on the sloped
roof and shoveled off the snow, connecting himself to a tree by a rope, in case
he slipped off.

He amazed me with his tenancity and hard work. And, btw, my dear grandma was
a prolific tatter and crocheter. When I was very small, she used to embroider
the toes of satin baby shoes for resale in shops. I sure miss them both.

a hush puppy is about 2 cups corn meal, 2 tablespoons of sugar,1
chopped up onion, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/3 cup of parlsey flakes, 3/4 to
1 cup of flour, one egg, and enough water to make the mixture thick
enough to be spooned out without it falling off the spoon. you take a
deep fryer or quart saucepan fill it full of grease, get it hot, drop
in the mixture one overflowing teaspoon full at a time.

they pop up into little dark brown balls when they are done. make sure
you turn them over to so both sides are browned equally. put them in a
plate covered with a towel to absorb the grease or put them in a
strainer where the grease can drain. they come with all the fish
dinners when you eat out. you can put ketchup on them or eat them with
out it. they are just fried cornbread balls mixed with flour.

they are really good!! if you ate some you would find out why america
loves its fried foods!!

that is a good idea. i have sent a few resume's and applications
online, but i never got a call for the job until i brought in an hand
written application and a printed out resume straight to the company. i
did find a house online, which i thought was great because i had to
relocate for school. it worked out nice enough, but the neighbors were
not so good. they wouldn't have been any better if i had shown up in
person and found a different house, so i can't blame any internet
misconfusion with that.

as far as the personal data internet applications for websites and chat
forums ask for, i try my best to be vague, but some require names and
addresses. they don't and never would display the information, but
they do have it on file. i think that is for shopping purposes on
most, but some forums do ask for an application. that must be to
avoid flamers.

g When our son was born, my DH was delighted; his youngest from the
first batch was 18 yrs older, which made my DH feel very young indeed
:) My mother was also delighted - she'd been after me to give her a
grandchild (preferably legitimate g) since I was 17, and it took 10
yrs for me to oblige... But my *father* was appalled - you mean I'm
now a *grandfather*??? He was doubly appalled when I made it clear
that I didn't approve of children calling their elders by first names,
and preferred relationship names (though he'd have been equally
appalled had *I* called him anything other than father or dad)...

Me, I'm happy enough to collect my 5% senior citizen discount at the
local grocery store every Tuesday since last October (when I passed my
55th); it was too much pain in the neck to try and orchestrate a
schedule so that DH could show up his grey hair as a passport :)

Yours, nagging my son to reproduce and make me a true grandma
(step-grandchildren aren't *quite* the same g). I didn't start as
early as my Mother had which might have been a mistake - he's now past
28, and still no sign of *marriage*, never mind an offspring
