[lace-chat] Photo copying.

2009-10-22 Thread VivienneWalton
Hi all, I just had a phone call from a branch of Staples asking my
permission to photo copy one of my table cloth patterns. I thought it was very
good of them. I gave permission for one copy. Good on Staples. Vivienne,

Hello Vivienne

Good of them to call!! Mind you, Staples are very hot on copyright!!
I remember trying to get a copy of a photograph done there they
refused because I did not have the photographers permission in
writing I took the photo!!

Regards

Re: [lace-chat] bobbins

2009-10-22 Thread Malvary J Cole

Agnes asked how many bobbins do you have.

Lots and lots and lots and lots, but I'd rather make lace than stop to
count. A different question would be how many UFO's do you have with
bobbins still on them - lots and lots and lots of them too.

down with rain at the moment.

Re: [lace-chat] bobbins

2009-10-22 Thread Clay Blackwell
I tend to be better about Lace UFOs than other kinds... I have several
quilt-tops that are completed, but need to be quilted, for example. I
have a four or five knitting projects in the current knitting basket
(with numerous others put away years ago!). I don't keep lace UFOs
because they tie up pillows and bobbins... if I'm not happy enough with
something to work it to the end, I cut it off and move on.

I have two projects on pillows at the moment... one is Binche and takes
all the concentration I can muster, and the other is a 's Gravensmoer
scarf, which is something I can do in my sleep now, after doing nearly
52 inches of it. When I've worked the Binche until my brain hurts, then
the 's G is a relaxing alternative!

And like Malvary, I'd rather make lace than count bobbins! Lots and
lots is a good description! Binche, Midlands, Bayeux, Brugges, Honiton,
antique in that order

Re: [lace-chat] bobbins

2009-10-22 Thread Sue Babbs
I'll admit to having 3 lace projects currently on the go - involving around
600 bobbins between them. One Binche, which I haven't touched since Sweet
Briar when Bobbi Donnelly got me hooked on a Tønder piece. This latter piece
has about 10 repeats and a corner to go before being completed, which I plan
to do while demonstrating at the Chicago Botanic Garden over 6th, 7th and
8th November. So I have put it away till then, as I need something to do
while at the Fine Art of Fiber. So then I started a piece of Bucks. I don't
usually have this many lace UFOs around the place.

Then you can add a quilt, three jackets, and a knitted sweater around the
place (and lots of ideas in the head!)

Hi, Jane all,

Some chestnut research has been done near me using Chinese hybrid
chestnuts. When we first moved to our house, we found trees on the farm
next door and got some of the nuts to plant. Our nuts are now small trees
that have just started to bear in the last year or two. Time flies!

I have to agree on the texture. The farm down the road that is producing
them now had a charcoal grill and was roasting them when the closest little
town had a mini-festival after Thanksgiving. They smell good, but the
texture is like garbanzo beans.

Re: [lace-chat] Chestnut adventure

2009-10-22 Thread Vicki Bradford

Hi all,
I agree about the good smells and the questionable texturebut a
couple of years ago, we took a Christmas-time river cruise in the south
of France (the Rhone) and were introduced to Creme de Marron
(Chestnut Cream) and Chestnut liqueur. The Creme de Marron looks a bit
like apple butter but tastes like nutty-creamy-sweet heaven on toast or
croissants. I found some here at home (the U.S.) in a shop which
carries imported food items. The chestnut liqueur is from Tournon and
is a wonderful after dinner drink. I only have a bit left and I'm
afraid it may not be exported, so looks like I'll have to take another
trip to Tournon!

And today when I phoned our electricity company to report a power outage /
power cut, I was told that I could check online to see what was causing the
problem. Unfortunately that needs power!
