[lazarus] Summer of Code
Hello, Has anyone notice Google project "Summer of Code"? They are willing to pay around $4.500 to students that complete a open source development task. Projects are submited there and then, if approved, they select a student and a tutor to try to acomplish the coding that. If the student succeds he will get the money :) Here is the official web-site: http://code.google.com/summerofcode.html This project generated some important parts for projects like Open Office. There are language related projects also, like Perl and Python, so why not Pascal? :^) Maybe Lazarus should submit a project there? Personally I would love a fast and smart internal linker for Lazarus. Of course this is Free Pascal and not lazarus, but they maybe lazarus developers know something that could be submited to summer of code? I will eventually post this to free pascal mailling list. [lazarus] GNOME Toolkit
Hello, I just noticed that one of the widget options for Lazarus is GNOME. I just wonder if there is a library called Gnome for user interface development. I googled and searched the wikipedia, but I could not find any reliable information that a library called gnome exists. Of course I am familiar with the gnome desktop. Does anyone know what gnome widget means?? Is it really working / active?? Thanks for the offer. It is a little bit more complicated. 1.a) If you simply exchange the whole source, all bookmarks would stay at their old positions and therefore will wander off. 1.b) A unit can consist of several files (e.g. controls.pp + control.inc + wincontrol.inc ..). 1.c) You have to find the corresponding method declaration to delete. Gladfully the codetools already provide functions for these problems. 2.) The events must be removed from the form too. But this is already done. We just have to keep the correct order. 3) There are people, who don't want their code auto deleted. I for example save very often and found it very annoying, that Delphi deleted my newly created code. So, this feature must be optional. -> IMO a good place for this option is the codetools option dialog. Maybe on a new page. My suggestion: - first add an option to the codetools dialog. For delphi compatibility the default can be 'on'. - Then extend RemoveDanglingEvents in checklfmdlg.pas. This is normally done this way: - Add a function to the TCodeToolManager (similar to FindDanglingComponentEvents). - Add a function to the StdCodeTools.pas - parse the code - go through all methods - test if empty - find the corresponding method declaration - mark the source parts for deletion - apply the changes - call the function at the beginning of RemoveDanglingEvents I will help you here. Because this is done on every save, we must optimize it: The deletion should only be executed, if the designer had added events. The search for corresponding methods should not be a linear search. Question: - Should only published methods be auto deleted, or all empty methods? Should empty procedures/functions be deletes too? Re: [lazarus] dbGrid automatic column resize to data length
Yes, you are right. When you checking every record in remote table it can take a months. I think about a procedure witch I can call AFTER putting all data in. I do not want automagicaly engine witch do than on the flay. You now: Dataset.Open; Dataset.Append; Dataset.Post; dbGrid.AdjustColumns or other function... And I have a proper width to next update or append. This is no elegant solution but it should work I think. I use a SQLite and tables do not contain a valid length information. Problem is the tables (databases) I use are 3-4 years old and contains 1-25 rows. Previously I use a TCL/TK but I do not find this as "elegant" solution. I love Lazarus very much but there are few thinks... :). By the time my workaround is to query database, put rows to stringGrid and do AutoAdjustColumns. But it is no RAD solution and require much more lines of code. More than in TCL... dbControls works great if you are have all information before coding :). Regards Michal I guess dbGrid is descendant StringGrid and internally stores all cell as Strings. Re: [lazarus] dbGrid automatic column resize to data length
It's automatic, when you add a new column and then you set the fieldname column's property, the column gets resized according to the field specification (Field display width, or column's title the bigger it's used) An automatic resize based in cell content like in TStringGrid still it's possible but it needs check every record in the dataset, for small datasets maybe it's not a problem but for big ones, retrieved from remote servers it's not an option. And the problem is that dbgrid doesn't knowbefore hand what kind of database is attached to. Based in the premise that the user 'knows' I could add a function that retrieve every record in the database and then it can get a best fit for column width. What do other think about this, it's a good idea? I added a note on issue 1044: http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/mantis/view.php?id=1044 As many new-comers, I am not familiar with the structure of the code. I have experience in software development, but lack the (unpaid) time to follow the code up and down to figure out where (i.e., in which line of which file) any changes should be made. In this particular issue, it could be useful if someone familiar with the code just add an empty function (following some unwritten naming convention) as a place holder, with the right parameters. I am willing to test a function that receives a single source code (it's a TStringList or something like that?), does the clean up, then return the cleaned code, maybe in the same parameter, with the var keyword. -- Atenciosamente, Alexsander da Rosa _ To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject archives at http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/mailarchives

Re: [lazarus] IDE interface: commands and menus

Just compile the IDE with '-dUseMenuIntf -dUseIDEScopes' and work wit h it the next days. Tools -> Configure Build Lazarus -> Options: -dUseMenuIntf -dUseIDEScopes Or at command line make clean all OPT='-dUseMenuIntf -dUseIDEScopes' Lazarus build 7818 FPC 2.0.0 and 2.1.1 Windows 2000 SP4 After enabling the above options and rebuilding everything, the main menu is not displayed. It appears as if the speed buttons and component pallette is drawn over the main menu. The Alt + shortcut key works for selecting menu items, which are then drawn over either the speed buttons or component pallette. Selecting say File - New and then closing the dialog results in a correctly redrawn menu. It works under linux/gtk. The menuintf code only changes the order, when the TMenuItems are created, not the drawing. It seems to be an already existing bug in the win32 interfaces, that has been revealed. Can some windows user provide more information? I can confirm this behavior. The menu appears after resizing the component window. I will tray and fix it. Good. Note, that this bug doesn't happpen on windows xp, but it does happen on windows 2k. It looks like an issue we had previously with menus with accellerators, for example with the lazde. You fixed this too, if I remember correctly. This is a 0.9.10 blocker.
