adopt the idea that we do a proper one in Lazarus look/feel.




If splitting it in *three* instead of two still retains the gear shape, 
and doesn't look like a pie chart in a 16x16 pixel image, it would 
convey more effectively the idea of many. Sort of basic numbering 
system: one, two, many :-)

Was actually thinking of miniaturized Lazarus logo.  Sort of same line of
thinking as Delphi - but I've only got version 2 so not sure how accurate
that is.  I just checked now, the Delphi program icon was the building, the
program icon had a flame and flame holder over the right side of it.

variations of an inbox, I don't see a relation to a project. Otoh, a 
project is a bunch of files which can be filed an such box.

produce the executable results. So an executable icon could work - but 
it doesn't quite fit - the project PRODUCES an executable (or becomes 
one) but it ISN'T one itself.
What is that something that it is. If we think abstractly enough to 
describe the concept of a project - then it is a series of related tasks 
that produce a result.
Well for THAT idea we do have a commonly recognized symbol - the 
checkbox tree.


Something like this

|

Now shrink that into a good size, scale it a bit and turn it into pixels 
instead of ascii and I think you got the right kind of concept conveyed 
(with a bit or work anyway)) :p


Any thougths ?


The problem is also to find something which can be easily represented on 
 a small Icon.
If a project is a collection of files meant to create programs, and a 
gear is used to represent a program, what about a sort of gearbox, two 
or three gears on a page or something like this?

Looks remarkably like KDiskFree and KwikDisk icons in Linux, but no
harm for that. I like it.

What about a folder with files sticking out (like normally used for
directories), but the folder has the initials ".lpr" on it.  Same
ideas as a home folder icon that has a picture of a house on it.

Or start looking at screenshots of other development tools to see
what images they used to represent a "project".  :)

Good idea, well explained but does look ugly (even in pixels). :)

icons in front of it?

With all the new images I missed these. It indeed looks like variations 
of an inbox, I don't see a relation to a project. Otoh, a project is a 
bunch of files which can be filed an such box.
Anyway, looking at other places in Lazarus, there is the project source 
icon and there is pkg_project.xpm
I think the red/yellow/blue figure are used on more places to indicate 
something of a project.

24x24 bitmaps. Maybe this gives you a little more room for working.

You can put the images "menu_new_unit.png" and "menu_new.png" in the 
menu View  "Unit" and "Form"!

dialog image or a button image that says Error or Cancel.

Maybe a blue square (like you get on VCR's) or faded red stop sign or
a hand showing stop or .   I don't have more ideas at the moment.

As I unswered several times, yes they should be on toolbar too, but due 
to one unimplemented thing in LCL they cant be there at moment. This 
thing is imagelist ablity to draw disabled and highlighted states from 
normal state bitmaps. This missed thing planed for next lazarus 
development version (0.9.25). I promice that this work will be done and 
icons on toolbar will be consistent with menu.

They are great (and cool acording to irc channel).

But 3 things:
1. They should be in png (so previous xpm are not needed)
2. They must be 16*16
3. Toolbar images that have disabled state will not be changed before 
implementing of auto disabled drawing. So I will add them to repository, 
but without switching to them.

Well... if you have time, do you also allow requests?

The icons of the sqldb-components aren't really beautiful. And the
components in the fp-web-package (lazarus/components/fp-web) are
non-existent... ;)
