I agree on Sacko's finish - at this level he should be aiming to go through
the keeper's legs when they are spread like that. Only place he definitely
can't make a save. I think it was 100% his intention.

[LU] Burnley

2017-09-20 Thread nat...@sky.com
Like many I watched the game on a TV feed (thanks Rich W) and enjoyed itIt was
a game that could have gone either way and so I suppose 2 2 is a fair
reflection - a bit annoying since we had 'won' the game twice and then let them
back in itI like Berardi and he is a real 8 out of 10 every game - a true
professional - but he was stupid last night. When the ref has stopped them
taking a corner due to pushing and pulling in the box you do not grab a player
when the corner does eventually take place
Then with seconds to go we give away a silly and needless free kick in a
dangerous position, albeit that the lad took a great free kick
Dyche once again proved that football people - players, managers, and 'experts'
do not know the laws of the game ! Yes, it was a soft and stupid penalty to
give away, there was no need to grab Roofe 'even for a millisecond when the
ball was seven foot above his head with no chance of scoring' as Dyche put it.
However he should be blaming his own player not the referee. A foul in the box
(and pulling a shirt is a foul) it is a penalty - irrespective of the chances
of the fouled player scoring. How often do we see a handball for no reason (eg
Shaunessey v Bolton) where there is no danger, or  a player going away from
goal is tripped or pushed - it is a PENALTY - no ifs, buts or arguement. Why
don't the reporters / interviewers pull the manager (in this case) up for his
failure to understand the rules ?
As for the game as others have said we took all five of our penalties
brilliantly - top notch stuff. Not too sure about the new order (ABBA...)
Players wise I was very pleased to see Sacko do so well - he made a massive
difference. I understand the criticism and the 'sack o shit' remarks, but to me
he has blistering pace and some skill / tricks. Yes his final ball can be
lacking and too often there is no end product but I still love watching him. He
reminds me of Darren Huckerby , in that he does not know himself what he is
going to do so the opposition have no idea, and he makes things happen. I hope
he did enough for TC to have him on the bench as an impact player (he is the
11th ? player to score for us so far - in 11 games
Klitch shows that he will be a useful addition. Shaunessey was excellent again
and is a real find. Despite a totally re-arranged and cobbled together back 5 -
none of them will be in the first team in the postion they played last night-
we only conceeded from a penalty and a free kick , nothing from open play (even
if we did ride our luck a bit)
I can see why scum let CBJ go on loan and why he struggled at Wolves. Cibicki
and Grot were both very mixed. They did enough little bits to suggest they
could be decent but were missing too often or messed it up too much to suggest
they are ready for the first team
Whatever it is another game to bring back the fans (Ipswich already sold out ?)
- Just gutted that the next round will most likely be whilst I am on my holidays
I know Rich has had a pop at TC using his subs but I like it - we can bring on
3 (or 4 in the end last night) so why not use them if it improves what is on
the pitch ? OK we got caught out with being down to ten on Saturday but that is
unusual and I like a manager who can react to what is happening on the pitch. I
remember being infuriated by DoL on a number of occasions (2 nil down at
sunderland being still fresh in my mind) when despite millions of pounds of
talent on the bench and the game getting away from us, he just stood there and
made no changes

Re: [LU] Burnley win?

2017-09-20 Thread David W
Agree. Completely different performances.

We were somewhat disjointed when going forwards until Hernandez came on
(whereupon he was magnificent) but we had Cibicki making his debut and his
first ever match in English football and Grot making his full debut (and by
all accounts he is a work in progress). Daft to be forming any judgments
about either of those lads yet, but their presence meant we lacked fluidity
/ link up that we have with Saiz there. I thought Roofe was sparky, and
Dallas as ever puts in a solid shift wherever he plays on the pitch. And as
a real bonus Sacko suddenly looked like old Sacko - direct and running at
full backs.

We weren't outmuscled at all - Vieira really put himself about. Occasional
misplaced passes, but he has had limited match time and he constantly
wanted to be involved for 120 minutes. Other seemed more excited by Klich
that I was but he did a job.

Centre backs were the stars for me - Shaughnessy as a young lad who was a
centre midfielder until this season and Ayling who just gets better and
better wherever we play him.

The only 'disappointment' if you want to call it that from last night was
the goals we conceded - I really didn't see where Burnley would score last
night. All huff and puff but no real creativity. Having got ahead (twice)
we gave them silly ways back in to the game twice with a stupid foul by
Berardi (immediately after the ref had warned other players for holding in
the box so was obviously watching for it) and then unnecessary random panic
play when we just needed to play the game out and a soft foul by Vieira to
give them the free kick they scored. We'll learn from that though. Plus CBJ
was obviously god awful.

Re: [LU] Burnley win?

2017-09-20 Thread nigel

I watched both Millwall and last night and they couldn't have
been much different. Millwall was very poor stuff from us. Last night we
competed well.
Sure, they had more shots, which I imagine would make it look one-sided on the
highlights, and on another day we could have been out of it way before the end,
but we never looked that much in danger. When it was 2-1 to us, I commented
that we just about deserved the win, but that a loss wouldn't have been unfair
either.
Given we were on the back of two poor performances, had 9 player changes, and
were playing away, to a Premier League team, I don't think we could have
expected any more than what we got last night. Nigel(the Dublin one)

Didn't see the Millwall match but listened on RL and it sounded like we pretty
much second to the ball and second best all over the park and they had wave
after wave of attack.
This was not the case last night and whilst Burnley had the better of it I
thought we competed well and never looked that troubled at the back. We didn't
create much with Grot on his own and isolated, Roofe hugging the touchline and
Cibicki poncing around like he owned the place but not actually doing anything.
It definitely needed the introduction of Hernandes and Sacko to trouble them.
Hernandes first touch was to bystep his man and play Sacko through. Yes he was
lucky with his goal but his pace caused them all sorts of trouble and he
skinned Charlie Taylor twice - I always thought Taylor was suspect when put on
the back foot.
I'd say overally, given the team selection / debuts etc it was a good
performance.

different from the Milwall game. Looks like we had to suffer wave after wave
of Burnley attacks and were pretty much out everythinged most of the time in
most areas. Burnley's finishing was poor which let us off to a large degree.

in normal time looked something between a very soft decision and no penalty
at all. The shootout saw us shine but we should have been well buried long
before that.

We got through and I'm pleased about that, but it doesn't bode well that we
can be pinned back and outplayed / outmuscled so easily. Our great start to
the season saw us doing that to our opponents. All teams seem to play a
weakened line up in this competition so there's nothing in it there.

Let's hope we can return to stamping our mark on games. Milwall and Burnley
both had us chasing to try and adapt to what they were doing.
