Mine are now 22.  I've put a photo of them on the Leeds List facebook page,
posing with Norman the bear.

I'll try and find the photo of them when they were little and doing football
training wearing the knock off Leeds kits that Rob Heath sent from Thailand -
is he still on the list or been kicked off again?!

would tie in with Voicey's secret love of Man United, his desire to wind up
every single last person on the list is consistent with Voicey's actions in the

Wow, just got back from playing bridge, having a few drinks, and an excellent
Italian meal at Angelos (if you are ever in Port de Pollenca give it a try -
only open during the season) and I see this.

OK I've read through this thread several times now and I can't see anything
that relates to Dr Benjamin's post, so either he's suffering from paranoid
schizophrenia, or he's replying to a personal message to the whole list.

Either way it's time this was stopped, Betty can you please take him off the
list.

Trouble is that both Liverpool and Man City are playing in the Champs League
tonight, so bars with multiple screens are showing both those games.

I do have one possible long shot, so perhaps.

[LU] Non-LU: Yorkshire Day

2017-07-09 Thread {broken-address} Graham White
Hi Folks

Asking for a favour here - could some kind person in Yorkshire send a Yorkshire
flag to me here in Spain? There's a nice lass from Farsley that runs a bar
here, so going to do a celebration on Yorkshire Day.

Still got a UK bank account so can pay you back by bank transfer.  If you can,
let me know and I'll send you my address.

Thanks in advance!

Re: [LU] non LU - Sorry.....

2017-06-18 Thread {broken-address} Graham White
Oh come on Rich, we all know that the only reason that the Maybot called an
early election (forget all that nonsense about "strengthening my mandate for
Brexit") was she and the rest of the Tories thought they were going to get a
Thatcher/Blair sized landslide, consigning Labour to irrelevance for a
generation, thus enabling them and their mates to continue looting the British
economy until it all goes tits up!

All the speculation in the press at the start of the election was on how many
seats Labour were going to lose, I don't think any pundit at all predicted that
Labour would gain seats - so on that basis it has to be seen as a very
successful election for Corbyn, helped as you say by "the worst tory leader and
campaign in living history", and that seems to be the general public
perception.   Lots of speculation amongst the chattering classes that the
Maybot wants to go but the Tory grandees won't let her as they're too shit
scared that Labour/Corbyn might win another General Election if it's held soon.

Good joke doing the rounds on Facebook:
Corbyn and the Pope are having tea on the Embankment when a gust of wind blows
the Pope's hat into the river.  Corbyn says to the Pope "Don't worry your
Holiness, I'll get that" and walks across the river, picks up the Pope's hat
and walks back across the river and gives the Pope his hat back.
Next day's headline in the Mail - "Corbyn Can't Swim!!"

PS - I didn't vote Labour BTW.

But I don't think he'll get the chance because that will take an election

Did everyone see the Simpsons movie?

The bit where after playing dare with Homer, Bart has to skateboard naked
through Springfield?

Bart is caught by the cops and handcuffed to a lamppost.  Eventually Homer
comes to rescue him , and Bart says "This is the worst day in my life" and
Homer says "No son, this is the worst day in your life, so far".

Relevant to both Leeds United and the British Prime Minister - bet Cameron is
already editing Wikipedia!

PS. The way Osborne is slating off Maybot in the Evening Standard almost makes
me like him, but only almost - he's still a cnut.

But still..v happy that Forsetieri missed the last pen. Still
haven't forgiven him for his remarks about Leeds when he signed for
them.or for his role in that non-given goal down there 2 yrs

But what about the famous super-striker Jordan Rhodes? how much did they
pay for him..and he didn't even step up to take a pen in their

Auntie Betty told me you did great reports on the games. Thanks very much Dave,
Betty is quite right, you do. Betty didn´t say it was more quiet than it used
to be
The list is far different from the one I remember, Stotty, Dellow, Guy
Thornton, Wiggy,
Niggy, Rogere, Jim Moran, Martin Dexter, Accrington Stanley Lad, Martin Browne,
Caddy, Janes London, Verner, Dave Diowden, where are they now ?. The list
meets,
pre-game was usually in The Brittania, (now closed) There used to be a regular
20 or
more listers in there, it was a hoot. We also used Peter Lorimer´s boozer, we
used to
meet my pal Harold Williams with John Charles. The away list meets were also
super
in different pubs all over the country. Maybe over the years, these lads of got
fed up
with Bates´y and the club in general. It´s eighteen years ago, since I first
joined the list
so a few of the older guys may have passed away, I know Grandpa Sykes in Canada
did. There were quite a few guys who wrote very comical stuff, it was very
entertaining
at the time and a bloody good laugh. Betty used to write a very funny story or
two and
so did Stotty. I travelled all over Europe with some of these guys, we lived
the dream
with O´leary and Ridsdale, it was fantastic, visiting the stadiums and Cities
I´d never
been to before, with good close pals. From the flight out, to the flight back,
these
trips were superb, these pals will always be remembered as long as I live. The
last
one I remember was with Verner and we stayed in Malaga for a few days as I
remember, I think this was the last game we played in Europe. I will tell you a
story,
one day, about me and Martyn Brown with Betty in Barcelona, Betty somehow had
to walk up a few flights of stairs because someone sabotaged the lift in the
place we
were staying. It only held two passengers, Martyn and myself went up in the
lift first.
For some reason Betty couldn´t get the lift to return back to get him up to
join us
shame..the lift door had been left open so poor old Betty had to trudge and
struggle up three or four flights of stairs after a night on the town, on his
own.
He was quite animated when he eventually joined Martyn and my self and saw the
lift door had been left open.on purpose..??..of course
not?
Hope you all have a great Bank Holiday.
Cheers and Beers,
Thirkers\098/
PS There is also a story referring to Jon Abbot and a huge soft toy on the
the streets of Barceloa in the early hours after a football match, and another
about
Stotty conning me to have a removable tattoo on my head and then he would also
have
one. I did, he bottled out, it was pouring with raining all so the paint/ink
was running
everywhere. Thanks Stotty who I remember was wetting himself about the con..
Another memorable occasion was my 60th birthday, seventeen years ago..(how
time flies-by)... at my house. There was a load of friends from the list in
attendance
and what a night that was. There were bodies in every room of the house that
slept over.
There was one guy SI.c, remember him.He was so sick my wife

You need to do a double hard return to get it to start a new paragraph.

Re: [LU] NON LU: European Referendum

2016-06-09 Thread {broken-address} Graham White
I was in Croatia on a walking holiday last year, and there's obviously been a
lot of EU (ie German) money spent on new roads, marinas, transport links etc
(and lots and lots of churches!) but when you look around you see that the
lifts in the hotels, the air con units, the new buses and taxis, and lots of
the cars are all made in Germany.

So as Richard says, the money they have given to Croatia comes back to them in
the form of increased trade.

for me that is root of the issue of being part of a bigger entity.  I believe
that we will be safer and richer and happier in the future by helping other
countries to succeed.  So a road in Latvia, increases their trade and helps
people access education and healthcare, they become richer and have more
disposable income, they spend some of that money with companies that contribute
to the UK economy.  they also are less likely to fail and engage in war.  Lots
of ifs and buts I know, but it's the same reason I'm happy to pay tax for kids
to go to school in Belfast, a bridge to be built in the Isles of Skye, build a
hospital in Warrington etc.  The money we pay into the EU is tiny but is a long
term investment.

As well as the ex-Communist countries, some of us are old enough to remember
when Spain, Portugal and Greece were military/Fascist dictatorships.  Joining
the EU after the various revolutions helped to stabilise their economies and
their new democratic systems  (although I agree Greece should never have been
allowed in the Eurozone).
For the alternative just see what happened in ex-Yugoslavia.

I'm always intrigued about this - exactly what has been forced onto us by
faceless bureaucrats in the EU?  Have you any examples of things that weren't
signed off by the EU Parliament, agreed by the council of ministers or in
Treaties signed off by our elected leaders?

It's a lot of money yes, but a drop in the ocean of our £15 Billion weekly
government spending and I think fair that as one of the richer countries in the
EU we pay in more.  Although a lower proportion of our national GDP then
Germany, France and Italy.  Like many big organisations the EU is far from
perfect, but our best hope for peace and prosperity.  There hasn't been a war
between the members for the best part of 60 years of  the Union's existence, we
integrated a dozen ex-communist countries successfully into western style
democracies, I wish the In campaign spent more time pointing this out than the
yahboosucks method they seem to be going for.

Now that our charge up the table to the play-off places has come to a juddering
halt (!) question for you.
So far I've not bothered about this as UK TV is nearly as bad as Spanish TV,
but new series of Masterchef UK is starting so access to BBC iPlayer
desperately needed :-)
Any suggestions, free is good but willing to pay if necessary.

Team A has a new foreign owner making all the right noises, but no money spent

I don't mind which pub.  If my train isn't delayed I should be in Putney by

I'll go to Duke's Head first.

If anyone recognises me from the MOALM can they give me a shout, as I can't
remember anyone or anything from that (although let's not go there - I blame
Guy Thornton!).
So the only person I'll recognise is our new manager, does he wear a tracksuit

although I guess I just look out for the fattest fat knacker.

much difference between it and 8.1, obviously not a super-user!
In other news:
I'm actually going to a football match!  A mate of mine said he could get
tickets to the Fulham game (thank you Duncan Lee) and did I want to go?  And in
a fit of insanity I said yes, this will be the first competitive game (although
I'm not sure that's the correct term to use) I've been to in umptyteen years,
will Rosler still be manager and will I recognise which team is Leeds and which
is Fulham?
Any list meets happening these days?

[LU] Non-LU: Techie question re Linux

2015-08-27 Thread {broken-address} Graham White
Hi Folks
Obviously not too much interest in football at the moment so I thought I'd take
the opportunity to use your expertise.
I have an old Dell desktop that I don't want to just throw away as it works
perfectly OK but is just too slow to run any software less than 5 years old!
Specs are:Windows XP HomeIntel Core2 CPU6300@1.86GHz1.86GHz, 1GB RAM
I thought that I could install Linux on it so I could still run some of my old
software and computer games that won't run under current Windows, but rather
than being a simple option when I started looking into it it looks totally
complex!
Anyone got any ideas for a simple Linux installation, or should I just bin the
old computer?
Thanks

I have to say, as someone who once had a season ticket at Elland Road and
regularly went to test matches at Headingley, and latterly at Lords and the
Oval, even went to watch county games on occasion, and have even been known to
go to a Leeds RL game, that I have lost all interest in professional sport
these days, I didn't even bother to watch the highlights of the Masters.
The whole thing has just become another way for corporations to extract money
from us.
Another old fart. Graham White

Redfearn says they paid good money for their strikers (Norwich) etc etc etc. Ok
I'm just checking BBC stats, last game we had 3 on target at home and were
outplayed, tonight seemingly we had one on target. We lost.

Now call me old fashioned.. but isn't the job of the coach /manager/gimp in
charge the chap who looks at his various players in his training squad and
says.. now who can hit a fucking barn door.. who can pass to said chap.. who
wont fall over in a crisis or kick a bloke who runs past him in a crisis or
attempt to parry because shots are so much harder now than when they had
leather friggin balls and say right right... you lot.. You see all those
poor (in some cases)  buggers who are watching you (20,000+) usually. You get
paid a shit lot more and care a shit load less can you please pretend you give
a shit for the shirt you are wearing... no, well fuck off then.

Next season I expect to see similar... I watched the Russell Crowe thing on
Jonathon Ross... he is genuine.. He is a Leeds fan.. Cellino.. who knows... but
ffs it has got to get better than this

I lived in Liverpool for much of my youth from Scotland, I went on a meet and
greet with my uncle to LFC in 1980 when I was 14, I met Paisley, Souness,
Kennedy, Dalglish etc. in their trophy room, they were all gentlemen and
humble, I did a gig with Jack Charlton in Dubai many years ago... lovely bloke
in fact I have met many guys over the years in what I did on radio and stuff. I
met an ex FA bloke in Dubai last month who swears the best FA coach of al time
is Sgt Wilko and he swears he has some serious dirt on LUFC... of course I
would never tell you lot

Without pandering to the old school here, it used to be pride you played for, a
team, a nation, a county even. Now quite frankly half these fuckers don't even
deserve to clean the boots of even MAN Utd. IMO we need an old school guy with
old school ways and teach these young fuckers a bit of respect and pride.. cmon
Leeds United... as a Scots born scouse raised Middle East living old bastard.

I did my rant thing... carry on.

I'll have you know that my mum was vetinarian to the stars.  Most of the Revie

According to the YEP we are bringing in players despite the transfer embargo
(not sure how that works) but are these really the answer to our problems?
The club are close to signing striker Leonardo Pavoletti on loan fromSassuolo
and have lined up a deal to take Slovenian midfielder Rene Krhin on a temporary
basis from Inter Milan.

I know nothing about them except Pavoletti is tall - maybe we could use him
since we are the only team in the country who have not scored a headed league
goal this season (why oh why did we let Matt Smith go - not the greatest but a
real prescence and a good scoring record for us - surely he would have been a
decent option from the bench ?)

Of course these two may just be the start of it since it also says Asked if he
was confident of securing players with prior experience of the Championship,
United’s head coach said: “I’m hoping so – or players who give us that sort of
quality. We need that depth, that competition and real game-changers on the
bench. At the moment it’s not the case.”
Somehow we need to stop giving away stupid goals -own goals / bad marking / mix
ups with keeper etc - a team at the bottom has to be able to 'park the bus' and
hang on for 0 0 especially away from home, and even cling on to a 1 nil lead
however early we score , and at the moment we seem totally incapable of doing
that

More to the point, how are we going to have any flame wars if Cellino keeps
sacking managers before we've even had time to divide into Darko in and

Do you think any normal manager will come and work for Cellino?? 4 managers
already (counting Redfearn twice) and we're only 14 games in!

[LU] Totally Non-LU: Yorkshire Dales

2014-05-10 Thread [broken-address] Graham White
Hi Folks

I'm treating myself to a weekend in Kettlewell, but the last time I was in the
Dales was 2006, and that was in the Ingleton area. I've not been near
Kettlewell for over 30 years!

So my question for you still in God's Own County is what is the situation with
Dales pubs?  Loads of country pubs in my area have closed in the last 2 years,
so are the pubs in Starbotton, Litton, Arncliffe etc still all open as pubs?
Any ideas on opening times at the weekend?

Better than talking about football, eh?
