Re: [LU] Championship

2024-05-27 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
Yep, been to 4 ‘finals’ now with Leeds and have yet to see us score. I can’t be
doing that any more. Combined with whole shithousery that being in London and
Wembley just is.

Still it was nice to see a few familiar faces in some pub in Marylebone.

Southampton have us properly figured out this season. Sharp attacks, good
finisher, and then a bus parked across the back. Some of their tackling was
borderline, to say the least. But they knew they needed to keep Gnonto,
Summerville and Rutter quiet and the rest would take care of itself. They only
wobbled those few times when we upped the tempo, and brought a little chaos to
things - mainly around Dan James - up to that point Firpo had been just about
our best attacking threat. Kamara, is half a midfielder - he does the defensive
stuff fine, but he is gash at going forward - Batty, Dacourt, Philips all knew
a good forward pass when it presented itself. This is one of the reasons Archie
must be midfield regular next season.

The idea of replacing Farke is nonsense. That points tally is a record for not
achieving promotion.

Massively fucked off on the game, but the longer outcome is not so bad,
supposing we keep a decent core of these players, and the finances are not shot
to shit by this failure to get promoted, as is being mooted in some places.

2024-05-01 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
I hope they / we will reflect that 90 points is the current record for a team
finishing 3rd.

The average is 83.

90 points is the average total for the Champions
With 85 for 2nd.

By any measure we have had a very good season, the problem is that Leicester &
Ipswich have had exceptional seasons.

I hope for this, but I doubt it will happen.

Aye, in the Keys we keep coming back round to that “We could really do with X

playing for us” conversation.

Football fans. We’ve got to have some bollocks to blather about, or else we

Re: [LU] Anyway

2024-04-23 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk

I think it is at least some of the story, John.

He’s the outstanding player in the league, closing in on 20 goals (at 1 in
every 2 games) plus another 10 or so assists, that is a season of consistent
returns. The fact that he has had a couple of bad games - at the same time as
the team is struggling - doesn’t change that.

I suppose where my tetchiness comes from is listening to knuckle-heads on the
Kop berating Summerville, Rutter and Rodon for being “lazy”, “not fit to wear
the shirt” etc in the last couple of games.

At this point all that matters is winning, and if you got to win ugly (Gnonto’s
offside goal!) so be it. To do that you don’t drop a guy with a hand in nigh on
30 goals. He might well not have been our best player yesterday, but there is
an argument that he was the most effective.

Anyway, on to London… which is always easy!

Re: [LU] Scared?

2024-04-14 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
   Just reflecting a bit more:

Piroe - was pish yesterday, anonymous. He is probably the best pure
finisher we have…and brings nothing else.
Summerville… given the ball standing still, with 3 men to beat, because
half-decent coaches know if they stop him they go half way to stopping
us… and this is the problem with the relentless passing across the back
5, our best front guys need to hit the defence at speed, get them off
balance, cause some chaos, but with this pass pass pass, they can set
their defence, get organised and are much harder to break down. On
paper we have by far the best attacking threat in the league (include
Byram, Firpo and Roberts in that too)… what we should do for the last 3
games is let them loose, get the ball to them and risk it. It all
depends how tired (mentally and physically) they are, and also how
scared we are as a team
Bamford - someone described him as a “streaky” player… and we are in a
downturn, whereas 2 months ago he was on a goal a game… I can see this
being his last season with us. He moves defences around, but he needs
service to score, he won’t create chances for himself.
James. - A good full back who marks him properly, deals with him
Rutter - who I do really like - is however currently in the running for
the Paolo Wanchope award of no can mark him because no one, least of
all himself, knows where he’s going or what he is about to do
Gnonto - looked most likely yesterday, then got subbed (maybe he was
struggling), but he is at least direct and willing to pop a shot
Anthony - looks decent, but is behind the other 3 wingers
Joseph - nice cameos…do we go with a raw 20 year at this stage?
Joffy - does a lot of warming up…
Also, taking Gruev off, left a huge hole that they walked through.
Devon Lock, Devon Lock riding through the glen…
   Nick
PS: it doesn’t take much for ‘the best supporters in the league’ to
become a right bunch of moaning bastards.

[LU] Sunderland

2024-04-10 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk

Notable lack of comments on here since Saturday.

Ampadu - Meslier - Rodon

My foremost impression from last night was how tired everyone in the starting
outfield 10 looked. With the exception of Gruev, and possibly Gray, they were
listless, not just physically less sharp - slower to the loose ball, less
running into space, slower to close down, less movement for the guy with ball -
but we seemed mentally off it as well. All the things people tried didn’t come
off. It doesn’t make them bad players all of a sudden.

Ampadu - Rodon - Meslier - Rodon - Ampadu

A combined total of 4 shots on goal, is poor by anyone’s reckoning.

Meslier - Rodon - Meslier - Ampadu

Unbelievably though, for a team moving up to second with four games to go,
there were scattered boos in the Kop at the final whistle.

We don’t have to finish above both Ipswich and Leicester, just one of them will
do.

Meslier - Rodon - Ampadu - Rodon

Onto Saturday then. We can still do this.

Thanks Dave, agree with that.

The non-penalty was difficult to see from the Kop, but when you see the replay
and the ref’s positioning - which was good - it is impossible to understand how
he didn’t give it.

Having then let play run until they got a free kick on the edge of our box, he
then gave the softest offside to halt their attack, once the free kick was
taken.

It was absurd.

Also understand that Ayling was in The Peacock buying beers …

[LU] Fwd: Boro

2023-12-03 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk

I have now missed both the ‘against’ early goals, but at least for this one was
able to say to the regulars heckling us this time, “well it worked out last
time didn’t it?”… and lo…!

We should not forget that Archie isn’t a right back, he is a very gifted young
midfielder and the sooner we can have him back in the middle, the better.

I agree with the report Dave, the thing I’d add is that either Boro had sussed
a weakness or our CHalfs were having a bad one, because they got repeatedly
pulled upfield and out of position, following “their man”. Leaving big holes in
the back row.

Yeah headed goals from the two shortest guys on the pitch - their defenders
need a word with themselves, twice in 5 minutes.

Our front 4 are pretty much unplayable for the defenders at this level, and
relentless with it. Their #9 was good too. I was glad to see Piroe step up for
the penalty.

Another 3 points.

I was looking forward to seeing Firpo last night to give the team an
overlapping option down the left. Sadly it looks like his attacking,
defending, desire and reliability to keep possession are lacking even at
 this level.

Despite that Leeds are still probably 5 points ahead of where I expected
 them

[LU] Fwd: Dog botherers

2023-10-29 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk

Agreed Dave. That first half was as good as anything since Bielsa’s good days…
although, Huddersfield were hapless. A special mention for the number 16 who is
still rocking in a cupboard somewhere in the away changing room after trying to
contain Summerville for 45 minutes.

I’ve got no problem with taking the foot off the gas and essentially ‘resting’
everyone, with Leicester coming up on Friday.

One thing to mention was how much off the pace the old guard looked when they
came on Bamford, Cooper and especially Ayling.

I would hate to try and mark Rutter.

[LU] Twitter & Bamford

2023-05-14 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk

Can’t get my head round the “Leeds fans” on Twitter telling Bamford to top
himself and wishing bad stuff on his family.

These daft bastards were also singing for Gary Speed during the match.

It is a game of football.

[LU] Fwd: Geordies

2023-05-13 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk

Can we just take a moment to salute the ball-juggling part that Jack Harrison
played in the first goal.

Rodrigo had to take that penalty.

Allardyce’s genius to pick both free scoring full backs in the same team, has
to be acknowledged.

That 4 points dropped in the last two home games, and yet, and yet…when you
look at who the other teams have got to play… it’s going down to the last game
isn’t it?

[LU] Fwd: Prolonging the agony

2023-04-25 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk

Hard to know what to say.

Our goal was pure class.

We almost scored at the end, but their keeper made a hell of a save.

Bamford’s miss.

But we needed to win that.

So we bring Aaronson on.

And leave Gnonto & Rutter on the bench.

It’s going to be a case of who is shitter, isn’t it?

Fucking grim

Roca & McKennie lost the midfield - Eze gave them a lesson. We stopped in just

Yes, am puzzled by McKennie too… does lots of good stuff, well, right up until
the last ball in an attacking position when it inevitably all goes to shit.

Also, Rasmussen last night proved that Ayling should be the right back for the
rest of the season.

Rutter was unlucky - 1 soft disallowal, and 1 off the post.

Other than a much more on it midfield, there wasn’t much that could be done
about either goal.

Ah, well. All will be forgotten when we do the double over Chelsea.

years. His illness finally got the better of him late on Sunday night.
He was at home with his family having turned what was a six month
assessment into two very full years.
Those of you who knew Dave would know that he was a devoted Leeds fan
but there was so much more to him. He was a munroist, he enjoyed
cycling, and took an active part in politics in Pudsey. In recent years
he was a leading light in the Pudsey Greenside Greenway project. He also
liked a good fire!
A committed traveller, there were few places he had not visited and
anyone who shared those trips will confirm that they were always er,
eventful. He made many of the matches abroad during our most recent
European campaigns and quite a few of us shared those trips. (Anyone
going to the Barca game will remember him and Chris Fitz staying above a
sex shop which they were convinced was run by nuns).
I can not begin to list all the adventures, stories and mishaps he was
involved in (he was short of a big toe after an accident with a lawn
mower). One thing I can say is they were many. Maybe one day someone
will collect them.
Anyway, he now joins the other listers in the great list retirement home
in the sky. Dave was a one off and will never be forgotten.

Thanks John,

A huge loss…any man that can negotiate years of parking at ER at the cost of a

Re: [LU] Villains

2022-10-03 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
I think it’s a bit more nuanced, if we can get a head of steam up, then the
movement is there, and the ball pings about and we look dangerous. If the game
is broken up and that gets stymied, then we look pedestrian. This is what
Wolves & Everton did and Villa copied that blueprint - all dreadful opponents.
I can’t imagine being happy watching that way of playing.

Crying out for a Pablo-type who does the unexpected, sees the pass etc - Adams
is very good at breaking up the opposition play - and full of running - but we
lack the killer pass, the swift change of direction. Perhaps Rosa will deliver
that, perhaps Bamford movement will help.

In other thoughts, now that Ayling appears to be fit, I hope Rasmussen is moved
to the bench.

And what of Joffy, now we have Rodrigo, Bamford, our new Italian guy, not to
mention Perkins scoring easy as breathing in the U-21s?

Re: [LU] D Day

2022-05-22 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
I know what you’re saying Dave, but I don’t agree that today will decide how we
remember Bielsa. It will decide whether it was ‘all for nought’.

The first 3 years brought us both brilliant football, and a sense of pride in
the way it was achieved: he showed that it was still possible to do things the
right way on and off the field. To me there was an element of grace to it - not
a word often associated with Leeds.

JM doesn’t bring that and whatever the results today (and it is a 38 game
season) it is unfair to expect that from him. Staying up being the natural /
default desire of any team in our position, but without massive change it will
likely mean we will be in for another season like this one…without our best
players. Going down might give us a better season to watch as a supporter.

To be honest though, what I’ll miss if we do go down is the joy not the
‘status’, and that has gone either way.

Agree with that Rich - I swear if I have to watch another lofted ball from
Koch, dropped into the box from 50 yards out, with no one in sight but their
keeper…

How bad was that? I left bang on the whistle and walked straight on to the
first bus in the station and got a seat…no mad queues watching the first 5 or 6
buses leave, all the folk buzzing and chattering about something brilliant in
the game. Flat. We have forgotten what it was like before and become inured.

[LU] We’re in trouble

2022-02-26 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
Clueless, shapeless without a leader on the field, trying to play a system that
the defenders don’t understand, which leaves them exposed…Ayling man to man on
Son was laughable today…Son just dragged him all over but he never got within 5
yards of him. And this is the problem - man to man works if the players are
individually evenly balanced. Son is world class, Ayling is good Championship…

So Son beats Ayling, they have a man over and everyone is in panic mode. At
least zonally there is a shape and a coherence.

We could have had 4 today…woodwork twice, Dallas froze when through on goal and
Ayling missed a sitter of a header…that’s before we mention James or Rodrigo or
Dallas’s shots…but they could have had 7. Meslier made three or four top drawer
stops.

Meslier - kid will be good, but he has to be given a chance.
Ayling, Klich, James and Harrison are out of their depth…but OK when the
confidence is good. Dallas, is on the edge of this club too.
Llorente was very good last year…he is currently defending like Frank Spencer
in a gale.
Firpo is either great or a liability, and there’s no way to determine which one
will turn up.
Struijk has been our best defender, I don’t know why he was taken off.
Koch, is a defender not a midfielder.
Forshaw was worth his place today, but he can’t stem the tide alone.
Rodrigo came on and gave it a go. But he is a 10 if he’s anything, not a 9.

Raphinha will leave at the end of the season, whether we stay up or not. He
can’t let what he has be squandered like this week after week.

That’s 12 goals conceded without reply, in less than 2.5 games.

We need to make the last 11 games a season of their own and pray for some luck.

I still stick with Bielsa because no one will do any better with these players.
But the dressing room needs winning back - they need belief again and a system
that they can play to that works…

The return of Kalvin and Bamford and Cooper can’t come too soon.

2021-12-20 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
Thanks for the report Dave, reflected how I felt leaving the game. Shame about
that 4th goal, we had a bit of fight for a while around the time we scored. I
felt quite sorry for some of the younger players - what an environment to have
to step into, but I thought they all performed at least creditably. I
particularly liked the way Drameh at R Back didn’t let it all phase him -
because he had some difficult moments but he dug in and made some decent
contributions. Gelhardt took a difficult game with thin pickings on the chin
and kept at it, causing problems right to the end…but yeah, our player of the
year so far has to be Meslier. If he goes into the Physio’s room it will be for
shellshock.

Onwards with MB.

In the scheme of things, while the Chelsea one was a bastard (and a dodgy

[LU] Hellerball Re coach22

2021-10-18 Thread N If
I guess its interesting times for Marcelo and i hope he has the appetite
for the challenge.

Has he been found out? (i fancy he has the wherewithal to fathom suitable
tweaks to plan A whilst maintaining the spirit and passion of the beautiful
game he loves and the world loves too).
Has the upward trajectory, the belief, the desire begun to wane in his
group and can the be reinstilled...is it time to consider a more committed
jaunt at batch 2: the youth the llorentes jameses and firpos and find a new
group to inspire..albeit at a much higher , premier league, altitude?
Wasnt it after his first season that he spoke about it being difficult for
the players to reach the same heights another year.. they magnificently
proved him wrong for those two glorious years.
Anyway, its all speculation, i just hope he remains engaged and with us for
as long as he sees the way. For me, and i adored the Don and Wilko in
their primes, but Bielsa has been the best of them all.

Definitely take that point about the man marking system, Matt…so perhaps it
should not be that Firpo was out position, more that there was huge gap into
which Bowman moved and no one was within 20 yards…either way, it was a gift…and
not mention allowing him then to cut back onto his left foot.

2021-09-18 Thread N If
Rarely read the real list nowadays, but wouldn't do without regularly
chatting with our listers on Whatsapp - where there was recently a post
about 'imagined communities'. The bond and love I feel for this community
is powerful, and I often refer to comments from listers as 'one of my
friends said..." or 'my friends are saying...' Certainly, I feel a greater
sense of belonging, than I ever did amongst the misogynist, racist guys on
the supporters bus on the way home from an away game (The same guys that
I'd hugged as we sang We Are Leeds and All Leeds Are We MOT at the game).
No, like Latvian John, I met everynweek at our spot on the Kop, the list is
my mates. And I feel proud to be part of it. Many great contributors over
the years, I have my own favourites; as you said James, Dave and Richard's
reports have been vital, as has Betty's stewardship. Love you all. sniff.

thought we were only just hanging onto their coattails. But in the end 0-3
didn’t flatter them.

I’ve not seen any replays, so I don’t know about the sending off. Live, it
looked like a clean challenge, but then we saw lots of the folk around lad
running away holding their hands to their mouths, and so knew it was a bad
injury.

I think in time Bielsa might want to switch Raphinha inside into a no.10 role,
behind Bamford, with Harrison and James on the wings. But there has to be
better coherence between the full backs and the wingers. Ayling has started the
season at quite a low level, he seems to be struggling…a lot of unforced
errors. Cooper can’t be any more than a squad player. Llorente is class, I hope
the injury is not serious. Firpo, I actually think had his best game for us
yesterday…whether that is good enough long term is another thing.

In midfield, I think Phillips was very good, but can’t do it alone. Dallas was
curiously absent - or the game passed him by. Oddly after an invisible first
half, Harrison was having a good 15 minutes when he was taken off.

Don’t know what to do with Rodrigo, he has played a lot in that advanced
midfield role and is not a success there. He has done ok as a centre forward,
but he is not the same kind of forward as Bamford, and Bielsa sees that Bamford
brings more to his preferred style of play.

We continue to be grateful for having Meslier in goal. He is a future star.

What we need are a couple of wins, to settle the nerves.

The atmosphere in the ground was bouncing.

Hard to disagree with any of that John. Are we really so dependent on KP and
Raph?

We didn’t get started today. No movement for the man with the ball...so
anything we tried was always from a standing start. Just as well there’s a SM
boycott.

The subbing of Bamford was one of the strangest decisions...he’d only had about
5 touches most of which were him tackling back. And Roberts...well, I just
don’t see it...he does some great stuff, but as soon as he does it, you’re
waiting for the cock-up.

[LU] Hands up who’d have taken a draw at kick off?

2021-01-31 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
Pretty close to the result / performance of the season.

Not going to go on too much, but Bamford is deserving of all the plaudits;
Raphinha had another excellent game as did Ayling (bringing back the Kisnorbo
wrap) and Meslier was again good when needed...although Schmeichel did as much
to keep them in it in the first half.

Struijk again did well at Centre half.

Right, where did I leave that bottle opener?

Let’s just take a moment to recognise that we kept a clean sheet without any

seems.

That was a sweaty palm almost 90 minutes of football.

Re: [LU] Tonight's match

2020-12-21 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk

As someone said somewhere else, if you want the 5-2 victories you get from
playing that way, then you’re going to have to take the odd 6-2 defeat as well,
because some days it doesn’t fall for you. Also, as Bamford said, they are
learning that being a yard out of position can really cost you against players
this good...

Well. Most of them managed to be at least a yard out of position a good few
times yesterday. That said Bamford, Harrison and Raphina could easily have
scored: it could have been 10-6.

The midfield were absolutely nowhere defensively in the first half...Klich’s
man (who I had never heard of before yesterday) left him for dead twice in the
first 4 minutes, and Philips lost their full back for the 4th goal. It seemed
like they had set their formation lines up against ours so they matched, and
then shifted them all forward five yards...all they did was pass it between our
lines time after time. It was too easy. Their possession mostly came from soft
mistakes by us.

As for the famously makeshift defence, losing Cooper, whatever you think of his
performances, would be a blow...you can’t operate a back four with 3
non-specialists out of position, never mind 4. Looks like we might need to raid
the U-23s or something.

Raphina and Rodrigo still look to push forward and make things happen and we
will need them to keep doing that.

In the long run though, the success or otherwise of this season won’t be
decided by games like yesterday’s but by games against the teams below us and
around us.

Re: [LU] West Ham

2020-12-12 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
I don’t have much to add to this as it says pretty much everything I would have
done: when I was thinking about our defence last night I couldn’t get past the
word “makeshift”...

Some of the most improved players of the last couple of years - Dallas, Ayling,
Klich, Alioski - were valued, in part at least for their athleticism around the
pitch: they created a tempo. With the exception of Ayling, who did do OK at
CHalf, they look to be running on fumes...there’s just no buzz or zip about
they move on the pitch. There was much more square ball across the back 4 or 5
yesterday, because they had no targets to aim for ahead of them and the gap
between front and back was a gulf...which is where you would normally find
Klich or Pablo.

If we are going to continue being weak at corners, then we have to strongly
defend against giving them away... the gaps behind Alioski in the first half
were criminal, as was the lack of cover he was getting from Harrison.

In the end I felt sorry for Bamford and Raphinha who were coming a long way
back for scraps at times. Also felt sympathy for Meslier, but that is becoming
a normal state of affairs.

One question - probably a rule change I have missed - why didn’t the keeper get
a straight red?

And yeah, I know we benefitted but by Christ it took 6 or 7 minutes to take
that bloody penalty...and the first one was shit.

Re: [LU] VAR for offside

2020-11-10 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
I’m not a fan of VAR. I always thought it a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
English commentariat got itself all excited after Lampard’s ‘goal’ against
Germany and demanded ‘something be done’. But across a season decisions evened
out, pre-VAR...now we’ve actually legislated ‘in’ interference.

They’re having to create a raft of secondary rules about when it is used and
when not.

A system that doesn’t penalise Everton’s keeper for that wild foul, but
disallows Bamford’s goal is not fit for purpose.

Agree with all of that Rich. Nice to wake up in a good mood and the weekend has
only just started.

We were saying that about Bamford’s third...kudos to him he did his bit well,
but 4 defenders round him in the box and not one tries to tackle him. They’ll
be in for some extra sessions this morning.

[LU] City

2020-10-04 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
I enjoyed that game. Both sides could have had several more. Rodrigo looks like
he has something to offer. You can see that Cooper is at full stretch keeping
up, whereas Koch is really looking the part and also the Dallas enigma
continues. Alioski looked like he will be more and more of a sub this season.
Costa and Roberts were quiet. I liked the look of Poveda when he came on...he
really scared their full back.

The main thing, is the spirit. We were hardly getting a touch for the first 25
minutes, they really stood up on all our defenders, giving Meslier nowhere to
go with his kicks - he must have had the best pass completion rate for us in
the first half...but we ground our way back in to the game...and on half time
Ayling could and should have done better when in on goal.

Absolutely satisfied with where we are after 4 games, 3 of them will have been
among the toughest of the season. Loved one comment from a non-Leeds fan on
Twitter - “Leeds are not fucking about are they?”

While we will undoubtedly hit a tough patch later, on the whole there’s nothing
here to fear.

[LU] We knew best

2020-07-17 Thread n...@6haroldplace.co.uk
So despite the fact that:

- Our goalkeepers do not dominate the box or inspire confidence (but do have
the best total of clean sheets in the league)
- Cooper is an accident waiting to happen
- Dallas is not a full back
- Breradi is a liability
- Phillips is one-paced and can only pass sideways
- Hernandez is too old
- neither Costa nor Harrison can cross the ball pass the first man
- Bamford can’t hit a barn door from 6 yards
- our subs are all 12 years old
- The squad is too small, we have ‘wasted’ yet another transfer window

Despite all that, the man actually in charge has got us promoted.

And he did it by proving that this is a team game, that the sum of the parts...

Make him freeman of the city or whatever, just keep him. He’s a stone cold
footballing genius.

I did. And the point about the corners was as valid as acknowledging was a
fantastic strike the free kick today was. They are not mutually exclusive.

Similarly, White has been our player of season (arguably with Dallas or
Ayling), but his ‘challenge’ against the Luton goal scorer was
questionable...But he was really on the front foot today.

Good solid performance. Nice for Douglas as well. Bamford unlucky not to get
two.

[LU] I do wear red sometimes

2020-03-02 Thread N If
Wow it's like being in the home end at Old Trafford when Leeds score.so
many fans of Athletic (There's only one Atleti) popping up on here!

The (Picasso famous) town of Gernika, heart of Euskadi (Basque country) was
my home in the early 80s, and I became an hincha of Bilbao - a wonderful
time when we won the league (think of how we last won it from under ManUs
noses and multiply by 10) and then the double, with just their local lads
versus the international millions and gazillions of Real and Barca, and if
we think the FA is against us, multiply that by 10 (for example that season
establishment-R Madrid got us penalised for watering the pitch before a
game).

And the World Cup with England in Bilbao was truly a wall to wall festival
of love, drinking, song and brotherliness throughout the city from morning
till night (only issue was brits used to closing times not able to cope
with open all hours drinking).

To watch MB take over my 2nd club and see them humiliate Fergies lot with
such swagger and then have him come to Leeds and work such wondersI
think you can now understand my unswerving adoration!

El Athletic, Athletic, Aup Aup Aup.

[LU] Reading

2020-02-23 Thread N If
Agree with that Rich. For me, most of the first half it was one of those
'you can't tell who are the league leaders and who is near the bottom'.
Was I right that for at least 20 minutes, our (misfiring) midfield were
unusually all in the box rather than patrolling the periphery? Meaning
that rather than pinning Reading in, they were able to break out and cause
us a few problems. Interesting.
Thought you were spot on with all the scores.
I too was worried by Casilla on several occasions and up till the save had
him on a 4. Bamford I had on a 2. He was just dreadful inside the box. If
no one else is scoring, the work he puts in to help create chances is
little good if he so lacks strikers' instincts - (I hope it's a
form/confidence thing, that a good hattrick against his old club midweek
will put right). I see Eddie is good enough to now start and score for the
Arse - (another player improved by Marcelo) - however, I was begging MB NOT
to bring on Kev, or even Tyler in the last 20 as Patrick's high press was
invaluable to 'managing' the game...I remembered when Eddie came on for the
last while and it really diminished our control of the game.

Particularly impressed with Klich - always there, always available,
starting to remind me of Batts in that respect. Great to see Pablo back,
while for me Harrison was the early most improved payer, Dallas has become
the most improved.
It's thrilling but it's hard to sit back and calmly enjoy!

sniff

Kiko - 5. He dithered his way through the match. Indecisive.
Ayling - 6. Started ok , moved to centre back and again did ok.
White - 6.
Cooper - 7. Solid defending throughout.
Pablo - 8. High energy, great goal
Klich - 7. Everywhere as usual
Dallas - 8. Best right wing back at the club.

Harrison - 6.
Costa - 6.
Bamford - 4. A lot of aimless running, some good control but he's not playing
as a striker at the moment.

2020-02-18 Thread N If
Someone questioned my praise of Viktor.

the acquisition of MB alone - isn't that enough on it's own. & it wasn't a
serendipitous deed.

Add Ben White.

You can't blame him for not achieving the Dan James coup either.

I'm a bit puzzled by Fair Play.
The spin seems to be that we can't sign anyone because.
But we don't seem to be the what ? (13Millionpa? 35Mp3a 30?) down on
transfers, so are wages being counted?
And does an obligation(?) to buy Costa mean that without promotion, we will
still not be able to afford any players other than on loan ..or by selling
to buy?

[LU] shoot rich and wap

2020-02-16 Thread N If
interested that Slavan Bilic this week told WBA to start shooting from
outside the box due to their diminishing 'efficiency'. Seemed that really
only our full backs (and CFs) were keen to have potshots, and reasonably
close to target. Was everyone else blocked off? Are we coached to keep
passing till a clear chance emerges? are the others getting a bit scared to
miss?

read a report masquerading under the name of Rich Walker - what have you
done with the real RW? (good report - essential reading as always and great
to see you pleased with the team!).Did you hear the Robins commentator
claim Bill's goal was how a Centre Forward should seize his opportunities?

Betty's What'sApp link told me to go away. Is there a magic trick?

[LU] Was it a pen?

2020-02-11 Thread N If
Thank you. finally. the goal. and from a corner.

great response from minute one (4 really) Leeds to all the recent media
hubbub and appalling run of results.
great response from going another sickening goal down against the run of
play.

Impressed with the Brentford commentators. Super fair. They are blown
away with Leeds. No-one has ever come to Griffin Park this season on the
front foot. They see us as outplaying them way more than I do.

So, I missed the supposed definite pen on Jack H early doors (according to
those same Bfd comms). Was it?

Phillips and Cooper's determination to win that ball back as the game goes
on - wow!.

Bielsa effect? Till recently, Harrison wouldn't use his right foot, now
he's using it with confidence. Costa was NO defender, today, he's 'putting
in a (soft man's) shift'.
