I thought that after we lost to QPR tbh, if a team chasing automatic
promotion can get hammered by a team struggling to stay up then I'd hate to
see that team face Citeh, Arse or even Scum.

Tbf, I'm not sure the shooting could be called pathetic, more non-existent.
Dan James must have had more shots on goal ( counting the cross bar one)
than the rest of the side put together and he was only on half an hour.

2024-04-10 Thread Paul Cundell
Not a list war, just a difference of opinion. I'm happy we've won 26 games
so far this season, some think we should have won 42. It reminds me of when
we got relegated in 2004 and people said that all they wanted was players
that gave 100%. When we got players who gave 100% they then wanted them to
be good, too. When we got players that gave 100% and were made to look
good, they wanted to change manager because the one that made the shit
players look good wasn't making them look good enough. Now, after giving
all the teams in our league a head start, we have a decent manager, some
decent players who give 100%, we're 1 point off automatic promotion and
they still want more.
Fortunately, Leicester & Ipswich have shit managers, too ;)

What an utter rewriting of history!
We wouldn't be bloody third if it wasn't for Farke. IF this was under
Marsch bleat bleat bleat we'd have lost 3-0. If not we would ALL to a man
have been singing his praises if he'd been unbeaten at home after 21 games.
You moan about us not going down the wings and then dare to mention Jesse
"Down the middle Raphina!" Marsch ffs!
You can't decide if he's good or lucky? Bloody good job you don't have to
then.
Farke's decisions and tactics have got us where we are, you talk as if we
have a God given right to be in the top two. Newsflash, we don't! Being
third best in the league is a lot bloody better than being third worst, in
case you can't remember.
We can’t stop Leicester and Ipswich having a rip roaring season but what we
can do is acknowledge that we're having one too, you miserable sod.
Cheer up and enjoy the ride.

Let's not blame the goalkeeper because Rutter and Cree missed more chances
in one half than Bamford has missed all season and conveniently forget
Mesliers first half save that in the end preserved our unbeaten home
record.
There's two defenders on the attacker but the keeper should've come for it?
Why? So you could have blamed him for not leaving it to the defenders?
Let's not look for scapegoats when the fault clearly lies with us failing
to convert our chances.

Re: [LU] Any reports?

2022-08-29 Thread Paul Cundell
I agree with Rob's analysis of Rodrigo but I'm surprised to see that the
stats don't back our impressions up.
Against Wolves, he had 3 shots and 1 goal but in the following three games
he has had 5 shots per game and scored 3 goals in total. So he's actually
pretty consistent on shots and goals. An average of 4.5 shots and 1 goal
per game is pretty good, we'll see if this continues over a better sample
size but if that's what JM sees perhaps that's why he persists with him.

2020-03-03 Thread Paul Cundell
The crux of the assumption of guilt appears to be that Casillas claimed
he'd never heard of the N word before his hearing yet the Match Referee
reckoned he told him that he was supposed to have "you f'ing n**ger" and he
said "no i said 'you f'ing sh*t'" on the day of the offence. So proof that
a Spanish football would know and use "you f'ing n**ger" is based on him
not saying he'd never heard the word before the match referee said it.

2019-09-23 Thread Paul Cundell
All strikers miss chances that you would hope they would be scoring, to
pretend otherwise is disingenuous.
The top scorers in the Championship have scored 5, Bamford has scored 4 -
and was the width of the woodwork away from 5.
So I think you're expecting too much, even Harry Kane has only scored 3
goals (and 1 pen) from 6 league games.
He's putting his chances away at a reasonable rate - he's not as prolific
as a Sterling or an Aguero but he's on a par with Grabban and Phillips and
that's about all we can expect.
We didn't win yesterday because Klich missed the penalty that Bamford won,
simple as imho.

If he was our main penalty taker, as many number 9's usually are, he'd

I've never left Yorkshire, Naefy, but you're right and I shouldn't let it

I hear the same people moan about Bamford that moaned about Viduka and they

People who "watch football" but don't see the shift Bamford puts in aren't
really watching at all, but I'll lay you 100 to 1 that Bielsa sees it.

Love this list me: Bamford is sh*t and Bielsa doesn't know what he's doing!

Seriously? We could have been 3 up by 75 minutes and should have been 2 up
but for Klich trying to be a clever fcuk with the penalty. That he tried to
pass it in to the net again is obviously Bamfords fault though.

75 minutes is significant because that's when Bielsa was forced to bring
Pablo off due to Holmes doing a number on him. Obviously, Bielsa got it
wrong again because he should have replaced Pablo with Pablo and must share
some of the blame with Bamford for Klich's sh*te penalty.

Reality Check:
On the February 18th 1974 we lost 1-0 at home to Bristol City in the FA Cup

This began a run of 11 games where we only won twice.

good job that manager left that summer eh?

Well, Thomas is 25 this year. You may recall he met Reidy and got a nice
email from the Prof.
He had a season ticket last season but moved to Germany in the spring. He's
lead Android coder for a start-up Football Scores app in Dusseldorf.

2018-07-10 Thread Paul Cundell
My twopenneth, if Vydra is on Bielsa's list then I doubt Bielsa is best
pleased with him that Vydra has just upped his wage demands. Can you
imagine Paddy Kenny doing that to Warnock?
Secondly, if we don't sign anyone then the world won't end and we'll have
another non-descript season just like the last 15.
Sorry but I think I've caught a heavy dose of couldntgiveafckery, will
antibiotics help?

[LU] Hockaday was head hunted!

2014-08-03 Thread Paul Cundell

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/leeds-united/11007951/Leeds-United-manager-Dave-Hockaday-desperate-to-defy-his-doubters-at-Elland-Road-this-season.html

Leeds United manager Dave Hockaday desperate to defy his doubters at Elland
Road this season

By Luke Edwards
8:36PM BST 02 Aug 2014
Less than a year ago Hockaday was in charge at Conference side Forest Green
Rovers. He was sacked last October – and has now been charged with reviving
Leeds' fortunes

Dave Hockaday’s appointment as Leeds United’s new head coach came as a
surprise to everyone, except the man himself. What he may lack in
experience, the club’s eighth manager in 10 years makes up for in
self-belief.

“I don’t doubt myself,” he says. “I’ve been involved in professional
football for 40 years, I’ve coached in the Premier League and I believe
I’ve got a solid CV.”

It seems a curious comment for a man who has never managed in the Football
League and who was sacked by Conference side Forest Green Rovers in October
last year, but then again Leeds are a curious club.

It has been 10 years since they last graced the Premier League, a decade
that has seen seven managers fail to keep results on the pitch in line with
the giddy expectations of supporters and directors alike.

There have been old managers and young ones, former players, club legends
and even old adversaries like Championship promotion specialist, Neil
Warnock, but none have lasted long.
Now it is Hockaday’s turn, the 56-year-old having been personally
headhunted by the club’s new owner Massimo Cellino.

To say that his arrival was greeted with disgruntlement by supporters would
be something of an understatement.

Even before he had taken a training session, let alone played a game, a
poll in the Yorkshire Evening Press revealed that 85 per cent of supporters
opposed his appointment.

It is the kind of reception that would have crushed most rookie managers,
but not Hockaday.

“I came in and there was a little bit of chaos going on, but I’ve been very
pleased with how things have gone” said Hockaday.

“I wasn’t surprised I got the job because I didn’t apply for it. I was
approached.

“I met the president a few times and I was offered the job. I weighed
everything up, but it only took a split second for me to accept because I’m
comfortable with what was offered.

“I’m not the manager in the English sense, I’m the head coach. I don’t do
any negotiating on transfers or contracts, I coach the team and that’s my
passion, that is what I want to do more than anything else. But I have to
earn the respect of the supporters, I accept that.”

Hockaday talks of already seeing “green shoots of recovery” and repeatedly
praised the players for their willingness to embrace his ideas, but he also
delivered a reality check just in case there are those who expect him to
win promotion in his first season.

“Leeds United are one of the biggest clubs in the country, we have fans all
over the world, but we are a bottom half of the table Championship team.
That’s where we finished and the table doesn’t lie.

“We have more potential than most to play in the Premier League, but we
have a million miles to go. That’s the ambition, but we are going to do
things step by step and I intend to be here for a long time.”

Cellino was so desperate to buy Leeds four months ago that he took the
Football League to court after initially failing their fit and proper
persons test for new owners due to having a previous conviction for fraud.
As yet, however, he has done nothing to prove he will succeed where Ken
Bates and DFH Capital did not.

He was a controversial figure as owner of Italian club Cagliari, and while
he has rescued Leeds from another crippling spell in administration, there
is little confidence things will improve dramatically on the pitch: this
summer has seen stories of drastic cost-cutting at the training ground and
goalkeeper Paddy Kenny being sacked reportedly because he was born on May
17 (Cellino considers the number unlucky).

Last season’s captain and top goalscorer Ross McCormack has also been sold
to Fulham for

£7 million as the Scotland international was disillusioned with the
treatment of former manager Brian McDermott.

Hockaday has no say over transfers, which are controlled by Cellino and
sporting director Nicola Salerno, and there is a distinctly Italian flavour
to recruitment: Marco Silvestri from Chievo, Tommaso Bianchi from Sassuolo,
Gaetano Berardi from Samdoria and Souleymane Doukara, from Catania.

Leeds have shown an interest in former Newcastle United striker Nile
Ranger, who had his contract terminated by Swindon Town six months ago, but
the only domestic signing is goalkeeper Stuart Taylor from Reading.

Cellino has no intention of spending lavishly chasing the promotion dream,
which is why Hockaday believes he is the ideal person to look after the
team.

“He wants to be successful, he wants to leave a legacy, but when you are
climbing Everest it might

The real crux of this argument is who would you want instead?
You wanted BMc out, you got your wish.
You said anybody would be better, you got your wish there too.
So really you more than most should have to suck it up.
You regularly refuse to give an opinion, other than wanting rid of the
current incumbent, of who you would accept.
Italian League 4 is below English conference standard, yet you suggest
Carbone is better qualified than Hock to coach the team, now who's the

Supporting the unsupportable is what being a Leeds fan is all about, n'est

corporates skimming off the cream and a national association that cares
less about creating a successful national team and more about generating
revenue for its top sides to give to the overpaid prima donnas.
What is there to miss?
At least the egg chasers put in a shift.

And your condemnation of BMc IS fair?
We lost ONE game after the Cellino takeover.
What in Cellino's portfolio has led to you having such a blind faith in his
intentions?
What proof have you of this funding? The club bank account is frozen, we
can't take credit card payments for ST's, Thorp Arch is shut and he's
playing Call My Bluff with a winding up order. He's had to beg BMc to leave
by mutual consent because he couldn't afford to sack him. Any monies he has
put in will be as secured loans.
Why does Cellino 'deserve' a chance? He deserves nothing. We deserve that
he keeps his promises or at least explains why he can't. Making promises he
fails to keep is not going to endear him to me and nor should it you.
We were in contention at Xmas then the sh#t hit the fan and it all went

Cellino may well not work. But he deserves a chance.

Kerr assessed that it was reasonable to assume that though convicted of the
offence, the offence was not a dishonest one. He said that because the
punishment metered out was less than the accepted minimum for such an
offence it was likely that the judge was ruling that Cellino was not
knowingly being dishonest. Unless Kerr's assessment is wrong, the FL will
have no reason to revisit this particular case in June anyway.
