Hi all,

He might write very well, he might be a Leeds fan, he might be writing
something nice about LUFC - but Henry Winter's articles are to be avoided. He's
a sanctimonious peddler of i-told-you-so guff and he rarely actually reveals or
investigates anything new.

Regardless of club or player, he's there buttering up someone/something when
they're on the way up - almost as if the respective player/club hired him to do
good PR. Then he's the first to knock them down when things take a downward
turn, listing their faults in the past, the same ones he omitted to mention
when he was buttering them up in the first place. See his pre-tournament
England squad coverage.

When the Bielsa adventure ends, he'll be there wanging on about Bielsagate, his
being set in his ways, uncommunicative etc. Speaking of which, when Bielsagate
broke Twitter he let himself in for well deserved stick with his proclamations
about not-the-done-thing-here there etc and being reminded that he freely spied
upon the England national team and printed what he saw the very next day.

Give me David Conn any day of the week.

Also, I'm with Richard - Becchio was a living miracle of a footballer.

BMW

Why Premier League needs Leeds United

The Premier League needs Leeds United. It needs the mystique of Marcelo Bielsa,
a manager so beloved by Leeds fans that two of them are in a recording studio
working on Bucket Man as a musical tribute to his match-day seat of choice. It
needs Bielsa’s intense, imaginative football. It particularly needs the passion
of the Leeds faithful.

There are some great travelling supports in the Premier League, such as
Manchester United and Newcastle United, among others, and Leeds would be a
welcome addition on the road as well as with the atmosphere that they generate
at Elland Road. After Leeds played away to Preston North End on April 9, the
police officer in charge of the away section at Deepdale praised the 5,516
visiting fans for being “as loud as ever and no issues, no arrests”.

Leeds fans would represent an antidote to some of the ills besetting the
Premier League. They are the opposite of the glory-hunters swooning because of
a club’s prominence. Leeds fans might consider a half-and-half scarf if
stitching together Leeds United and the Kaizer Chiefs, Lucas Radebe’s old team.
They are the antithesis of what Roy Keane famously termed the “prawn-sandwich
brigade”. If somebody mentioned opening a tunnel club at Elland Road, the ready
wits on their terraces would suggest that it was probably an escape route after
15 years’ incarceration in the EFL.

Supporting Leeds is a passion passed on from generation to generation. When
they played Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, there were children too young to
remember the Premiership years leaning excitedly over the yellow and blue
railings almost two hours before kick-off at Elland Road, high-fiving Bielsa
and his players as they marched from the bus.

Three hours later, a fan called Matt Richardson celebrated Jack Harrison’s
winner so enthusiastically that he broke his ankle. A friend of his took a
picture of Richardson in his seat afterwards, smiling, his left foot at a
painful angle, continuing to watching Leeds before the medics arrived. As he
was helped into a wheelchair, Richardson kept an eye on the game while doing a
thumbs up to his mates, who took great delight when he was strapped in by
shouting: “Seatbelt on”.

Richardson later tweeted from hospital that “this is what supporting Leeds
United does to me” . . . “but idc [I don’t care] because Leeds won”. Victory
took Leeds to 82 points, four behind the leaders Norwich City and three ahead
of Sheffield United with four games to play in the compelling race for the two
automatic promotion positions.

Leeds know they still have major work to complete. They also know how much they
want it. If Leeds do go up, the city will acquire even more of a buzz, there
will be more students switching there, and there will be smiles among
broadcasters, knowing that noise is guaranteed at Elland Road.

After Leeds were relegated from the Premiership after a 4-1 thumping by Bolton
Wanderers on May 2, 2004, their then caretaker-manager Eddie Gray remarked
defiantly: “It will not be the end of the club.” No chance. Not with

Can we, just for a few moments, revel in this moment? We sit proudly at the top
of the Championship, no we're not the finished article and, if we DO manage to
keep it up and actually GO up, we'll need to invest in some better players to
'do a Wolves' and compete up there from the off.
But we've our club back, our ground back, a legendary manager and we're being
run well for the first time since I can remember (New badge aside ... ahem!)

Meanwhile, over t'hill the self styled 'United' (Always absolutely loathed this
Media driven wank, as if they OWN that moniker! If anyone responds to the "Who
do you support?" question with "United" I start talking to them about Sheffield

been rumbling on now for, maybe, 3 or 4 years, but it's apparent that they are
truly rotten to the core and rudderless. £400M spent on 11 players, fuck all
return on investment. I was hoping Mourinho stayed on, playing his really
attractive, modern style of football and ground them into a respectable 7th

First half we were dreadful - just could not hang onto the ball and Sacko
looked particularly poor. However, apart from the odd perfectly good goal - we
defended pretty well and they didnt create too many chances.
Second half i thought we were more like our usual away performance - soaking up
pressure and hitting on the counter - i think that is basically how we are set
up to play.
We were better 2nd half, managed to pass to each other now and then and looked
dangerous on the break and we could easily have gone 2-0 up. It was only the
last 10 minutes that the pinball in our box started. Luckily they were as bad
at corners as we were.

It is a very stressful way to play though - not sure i can take another couple
of months of that.
Defence universally excellent, Pedrasa looked a bit lost at times but showed
signs of promise and Doukara put a shift in as they say - but showed why we
desperately need Wood.

You seem like a decent chap, so I would have thought so, but the .gov
website has a simple check to see if they are eligible
https://www.gov.uk/check-british-citizen

Citizen's Advice Services are brilliant, but although you are a UK passport
holder they might not be able to help as you live abroad.
www.citizensadvice.org.uk/

I did a little work with Asylum seekers and there are a number of law firms
that specialise in citizenship issues, one example is
http://iasservices.org.uk/ but there are plenty of other but they will
charge.

Finally, just stick em on a plane and let them sort it out on arrival, it
worked for Paddington.

Hope that helps.

These things take time and the fact that nothing has escaped means there

I am 100% sure bates is a very hard man to do a deal with.

Subject: [LU] Palace

What a great afternoon – didn’t even seem cold. We deserved the win, no
doubt
about that but Palace came to win also and troubled us throughout the 90
mins –

more than they should have.

So when I saw the line up I went ballastic, 4-5-1 with Becchio as the lone
striker. Good God Simon get a grip, we shouldn’t be playing like this
against a
bottom of the league team at home. Also, with Bradley Johnson holding the
fort
in central midfield nothings going to happen. This system relies heavily
on
runners from midfield breaking though because Becchio’s movement his
limited so
he really doesn’t have much of a role in this system. For 50 minutes we
huffed
and puffed, played some nice football, created some good chances and made
lots
of mistakes, missed some real sitters, had a great goal chalked off by the
ref
(not the linesman) and made some really basic errors which helped Palace
go in
1-0. It could have easily have been 2 if it hadn’t been for a great
Schmeichel

save on 45 minutes.

First that ‘off-side’ goal. Great movement and great running from Howson
saw him
played through. He took the goal brilliantly, took a look at the linesman
who
had his flag down then slid on his knees and saluted the south stand. The
ref
then unbelievable cut short the celebrations and pulled back play – we
were
still dancing in the stands. I always take a glance at the linesman before
I go
mental and although it did look close the linesman was in the best
position to
judge whether Howson was off-side and he decided not. Really bad
officiating.

We continued to create chances and then make mistakes. The best chances
fell to
Becchio, who lets be honest, should have had 6 today. The worse miss was a
ball

in to him, He was stood 2 yards from goal but failed to convert – he was
hesitant which is strange because he’s usually full on when he’s in the 6
yard
box. Becchio was then presented with a free 6 yard box header but he
tamely
headed on to the bar. Howson and Gradel also missed good chances. Towards
the
end of the half though we lost our way. Johnson started to detioriate and
passes
started going astray. Gradel changed wings to try and be more effective ,
but it

just wasn’t working. I watched attack after attack where we neatly played
ourselves up to the edge of the box but nobody was making the runs behind
their
defence. Becchio in particularly is clueless when it comes to making runs
like
this and plays most of the game with his back to the goal. He really
shouldn’t

be the striker if we want to play 4-5-1 at home.

Then there was their goal. Johnson got caught out on the left, he didn’t
have
the pace to recover leaving their man in. He crossed and converted 1-0.
They

didn’t deserve it but we really hadn’t played well enough. The system wasn’t
working and Grayson has to change it at the break.

Amazingly he didn’t ! Shocking really. So for another 10 minutes we
laboured,
same formation same problems. It was beginning to turn into a nightmare
then
Simon jumped into life. He dragged Johnson and Gradel off and out on
McCormack
and Sam. Now I’m no fan of Bradley Johnson and as far as I’m concerned he
can go
now because he’s not good enough for this league never mind the
premiership
(what a dreamer his agent must be) but he was badly booed when he left the
field
which I thought was out of order. I’d ask those fans to boo the manager
for
picking him not Johnson who to his credit is trying his best – it’s just
that

this is not good enough, never has been.

The subs changed the formation and changed the match. Suddenly we were
4-4-2
which Kilkenny and Howson central (strange that isn’t it !!???) and a
winger in
Sam who actually was lively and caused a threat. McCormack was brilliant.
He was
lively, he made runs, he controlled the ball well, he had a goal
disallowed and
according to Grayson he got the equaliser (need to see it again). The goal
was
coming though. Kilkenny had nearly equalised when he brilliantly brought
the
ball down with his right foot, flicked it on to his left and volleyed from
25
yards. It was straight at the keeper which was good for him because he
knew nowt
about it. Then Becchio had another free 6 yard header which was easier to
score
instead he too put it straight at the keeper. He shook his head, he knew
he

should have scored.

The equaliser to be honest is a bit of a blur but it looked like a few
people
tried things and it just seemed to come out to Becchio. He had his back to
goal
but managed to turn and hit it. Maybe it McCormack on the way on, who
knows, it

was Becchio’s goal.
