Rich, I think that's a bit of a (typically) narrow view of it all, there
are MP's across ALL parties who are split on this, it just seems to be the
one's in focus are Gove & Johnson, both of whom are surely stating that
they will never lead the Tories should the remain campo win ... Which I
think they will. It all seems (To innocent, Harehills born, thicky me)
very similar to the Scottish Independent vote. All bluster and scare
tactics (From both sides) But ultimately 'the safe bet' will win.

The vociferousness of the exit camp should anyone DARE suggest their own
opinion (Obama, The IMF, Just about every world leader, Mark Carney, The
TUC, 450 out of 650 MP's etc. ALL of who suggest we'd be better off
remaining) smacks to me of Empirical behaviour, still thinking we own half
the World ... which we don't! and sticking your fingers in your ears and
shouting LA LA LA if anyone dare to put forward a sensible argument
against you.

FWIW, I'm also in, mainly because I think we need to look to the future
and not the past. The World is shaping up to be made up of 5 super powers;
America, Russia, China, The Middle Eastern Oil countries and Europe, if
we're not at one of those 'top tables' we'll be an insignificant voice in
the distance shouting "Listen to us, we used to be important". Also, in OR
out will not stop immigration! So I cannot understand people thinking
voting out will change that one iota.

When the undecided 10% close the curtain and put their X down, they will
(It's a very British instinct) err on the side of caution and stay with
what they have. Just like they did in Scotland. 55-60% to 40-45% In on
June 23rd I reckon!

Disagree with Mark about Obama, I believe he's been pretty good for this

those Bush folks. Anyway, probably will get attacked for my view but don't

Good grief it's an appalling state of affairs when both parties only rallying

For me, the big thing about Monk as opposed to any other manager since we
signed Grayson, is that it a signing looking to the future; all Cellino's
previous appointments have been panicked (trying to halt a slide) or completely
bonkers. What we all need now, including MC is to give him time. I think there
is a statement of some intent in this appointment...he's young and learning.

>From a pessimistic point of view your probably right your Majesty. But look
at things optimistically and a Gary Monk as manager shouts out a statement
of ambition that a Steve Evans never could.

Realistically? Well I think that a contributing factor to Monk's successful
period at Swansea was the fact that the Swansea team played out of their
skins for him - he was one of them, who was their respected captain before
becoming their respected manager. Can anything similar happen at Leeds
where the outside perception is that the manager (sorry, coach) is an
isolated figure who will never have the full backing of the owner? I think
that Gary Monk will have to manage, as all his predecessors, with one hand
tied behind his back - let's just hope he's good enough to overcome that.

As for Cellino - the bloke may well be inept and not up to the job, but he
surely can't do any more to prove that he wants a successful Leeds Utd. In
the same way that we want him to support his manager, maybe we fans ought
to support him a bit more. After all, he's not Bates or GFH or any of the
no-hopers that have been associated with Leeds over the past years.

shit at Thorp Arch!

I'm guessing he might approve the purchase of a few cheap sleeping bags for
the players to kip down next to the pitch between sessions.

2016-06-02 Thread Tim Leslie
He's young and he understands the modern game IMHO ... Thought he was hard
done by at Swansea having not been able to spend much close season
(Relatively speaking of course!).

I think the Championship next year is shaping up to be a hell of a league!
The managers just announced recently: Benitez staying at The Lemmings, Di
Matteo, Pearson, Coyle, Stubbs and now Monk. A lot of young(ish) managers
there with points to prove?

The Championship is a far better league next season. Discuss! :)

I think that's a bit harsh on Monkfish, he led Swansea to their highest ever
finish in the Premier in his 2nd season. he was sacked when they were 15th
the next season, albeit after only 1 win in 12.

Overall his win ratio is about the same as Evans', but I think Evans had
reached the summit of his talents., whereas Monk, might have a lot more to
give. Only time will tell and I hope he's given enough of that.

Am I in the minority in thinking that Fat Bastard would have been a better bet
than Monkfish?
Seems to me it was a case of nobody wanting the job, and Leeds being the only
club who would give Monk a job. The last resort both ways.

Monk has no pedigree other than taking over a mid-table premiership team, doing
OK for a year or so, until it became 'his' team. Then getting sacked after
they became relegation candidates.

I don't see him attracting players in the same way that other recently
announced Championship Managers will. Combine that with Cellino taking the
Joke that Leeds have turned into in the last 14 years to new levels of farce,
then he stands no chance of putting together a team that will make the
play-offs.

Hope to be proved wrong, or even not quite right.

Re: [LU] Could be a fun pre season for our lot

2016-06-02 Thread nat...@sky.com
Bit of a myth this one for me. Yes the first season MC brought in a lot of
players from Italy (not necessarily Italian) but since then - not  single
Italian that I recallLast close season - with Rosler- we bought 3 'proven'
Champ players in Wood, Dallas and Adeyemi (all good on paper / in theory) since
then he added Bridcutt and Diagouara - again proven Champ players
Italian wise we only had 3 last season - Silvestri, Bellusci and Antenucci .
Now all have their detractors but equally all have shown, on occasion that they
are good at this level.
As for forcing players - the opposite was true with regards Antenucci who was
basically 'banned' from playing at the end of last season (2 seasons ago)
It could be argued that Bellusci has been forced on managers but, to me ,
mainly by the fact that Bamba and Cooper have so often let us down and needed
dropping (Bellusci has come in and done the same to be fair)
Just seen the presser with Monk - same as McD, Rosler, Evans et al, he talks a
good game - 'great club, great fans, great history etc etc, honour to be here,
bring back glory, give us something to be excited by ..I have heard it
so often I could have said it all myself
Seems to be a one year rolling contract so that seems decent from both sides
point of view - lets just hope he does well enough to keep that contract
rolling and rolling.
We claim to have sold 13k season tickets, will Monks signature encourage others
to join them only time will tell

I don't think it really matters who is in charge.  He'll have dodgy Italian
players forced on him and will almost certainly be out before Christmas.

Re: [LU] Could another takeover be on the way? YES again

2013-03-20 Thread Andy Pyzer

oops sorry Leeds United are up for sale again after owners Gulf Finance
House (GFH) confirmed they are looking to offload the club.GFH only bought
United on 21 December but in the company's statements for the year ending 31
December 2012, they have revealed an 'active plan' to sell their stake in LUFC
Holdings Limited.Bahrain-based GFH also described the acquisition of Leeds as a
'bargain purchase'.The Group has an active plan to sell its stake in LUFC
Holdings Limited, and accordingly, the asset and liabilities acquired were
classified as held-for-sale and presented in the consolidated statement of
financial position, GFH stated in the company's accounts for 2012.Subsequent
to the year end, the Group has commenced negotiations relating to the sale of
its stake in LUFC Holdings Limited.Local businessman Steve Parkin has been
linked with a fresh attempt to buy the club by local media after he failed in
his previous attempt. To add to the sense of uncertainty around Ellan
d Road, Leeds manager Neil Warnock has indicated he will leave at the end of
the season if they do not make the play-offs.United are seven points adrift of
the play-off places with eight games to go in the regular season.

The financial statement says the bargain purchase was due to pressure on the
sellers to exit their holdings due to change in their business plans. In other
words Bates was facing a cashflow problem as some of his schemes went pear
shaped,

or alternatively other pressures were brought to bear on the previous owners.
