Re: [LU] Max wober
Hi Dave, Yes it does not add up in my mind either. If we need a left back, then sign one. If the current set of Centre Backs aren’t good enough, then why give 2 of them new contracts at a time when the other 2 appear to be first choice. He may prove to be an upgrade in both roles but it doesn’t make a great deal of sense to me at the moment. Will wait to see him play a few times before making an assessment but it does seem underwhelming at this point , none of the fan sites seem excited. It is unclear if he is a centre back who has recently been converted to left back , in the same way we have done with Struik , or a genuine left back, but he we need a specialist in the full back positions given their importance in the modern game and our system He knows Marsch and a few other players but us too reminiscent of wilko and his Sheff Wed recruits, who were very hit and miss in their success rate. An easy option. He has been playing for the stand out team in a poor league, 3 consecutive league and cup doubles (?) So it may take time to get up to speed ? At least he gets Cardiff away to learn how things are over here. Of course I wish him well , the second Austrian to play for us ? Martin Hiden was decent but unspectacular, at least till he dyed his hair- So welcome Max , lets hope you prove to be the business Dave ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ Rest in Peace Guy, and wear your hat!

I think, in Smith's specific case - he was developed, not bought so no 3rd party 'owned' him or his registration as they did with Dacourt, for example. We may have exaggerated the book value of players (Kewell for example - his transfer fee went to his arsehole of an agent, anyway!) but that was merely for mortgaging purposes wasn't it? in any case, the point remains that any money in in those days went to paying off debts? Makes me a bill ill thinking about it all Its a long time ago and I don't remember all the details, but if I'm not mistaken that logic -- which would be spot on in most contexts -- did not apply at the time because all of the player contracts were hocked. I don't think that the stadium should be a place for car salesman or Jehovah's Witness conferences, as per Bates and his 'diversified income stream' shit. OK, so just leave that massive bricks-and-mortar asset standing unused for 340 days of the year. Who cares if car dealers or crazy cult corner pays the club money to use a conference room on a wet Tuesday in February when we're not playing? It's a good source of revenue. Can't you see that? My Bates comment is completely accurate - you supported most of the projects he ran whilst sucking money out of the football club. You can't just change sides now he's gone. It's just the way that things work, I'm afraid. No, your Bates comment is not accurate. My comments were as relevant to GFH, Risible or Manny Cussins. I was talking about the BUSINESS of running a Football Club. Using a skill set called Objectiivity, which is clearly beyond you. Irrelevant who's in charge. At the time we were stuck with Bates as chairman. Nothing much we could do about that, was there. Though I do recall you coming up with one idea. Just as well it was on this list, not Twitter or Facebook, as the finest lawyers in Monaco would have found another source of revenue - you. I'm sure that there are other sources of funding available to build conference centres and loss making radio stations and restaurants. That funding still needs to be paid back out if the one main source of income for the club - match going fans and player sales. See the last ten years. Perhaps you should support Vodaphone, Virgin or Sainsbury's? Are you just being wilfully dim? If you borrowed money to build a conference centre, you should be working to a business plan, where the revenue from the conference centre would pay off the money you borrowed over a set period. After that you're generating profits to plough back into the core business. Can't you grasp this? It's nothing to do with the personalities involved. Seems that us being linked with bringing back Gradel is more than just media speculation. I know we need a winger but I have really mixed feelings about this. In my view in one of the biggest games in our long history Gradel lost the plot and almost cost us promotion. Add to that his celebrations after we beat Bristol Rovers and it really annoyed me - he must be as thick skinned as that reptile John Terry. Then first chance he gets for a pay-day he is off and plays the family in France card. Well his family are still in France so why, apparently, is he looking to return? Ah, because he can earn some more dough. I think he treated us shabbily. Re: [LU] Max Gradel
Difficult one for me this, Max, along with Beckford, is my favourite player post first relegation, and IF he can play like he did it would be a real coup. Having said that he did leave us (although it was to better himself and his career, albeit the timing was awful) Add to that the fact that he had a bad injury and a couple of posters on waccoe claim to have watched him since his comeback and he is not the same player, and the adage 'never go back'* and maybe it is not a good idea. He has no connection to Brian McD and we should be looking forward not back, so as with the speculation with Beckford and Becchio it is a 'no' from me (but with the proviso if it does happen and he powers us to glory I always wanted him back) * I suppose both Batty (up to a point) and Baird proved going back is not always a bad thing Dave ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org John 'Grampa' Sykes Rest In Peace old lad 28th Oct 1938 - 12 Nov 2013 MARCHING ON TOGETHER
Re: [LU] Max Gradel
You may be right about his agent being behind this Paul. Apparently his contract with St Etienne expires in 2015 so the timing would fit with your assessment. This time it feels to have more legs about it for me though. As regards swapping French top tier with our 2nd tier I do not think that is an issue. Apart from PSG I reckon wages in English Championship would be comparable with most French clubs and definitely St Etienne. I've already said he'd follow the money so I don't think the World Cup is a factor. You will have gathered I hope it is his agent behind this and I personally am not bothered about having him back. PSG and Monaco have rich benefactors now and marseilles are traditionally a top european club but most clubs get championship or lower crowds and I guess championship and lower wages. Disagree entirely. He fucked off Bates and the selling club we were. He needs to go where the money is for his family and I would much rather our 'stars' go abroad than, say, to scum (like Smith - who many Unfathomably still laud). He earned promotion with his performances and was entitled to celebrate. Yeah he lost his head but at least he had passion for the cause. Open arms, mate. I know a lot of listers would take him back tomorrow and argue that today's footballers are all mercenaries etc. Fair enough, it just craws in my throat a bit. Mild rant over. I don't think that the stadium should be a place for car salesman or Jehovah's Witness conferences, as per Bates and his 'diversified income stream' shit. My Bates comment is completely accurate - you supported most of the projects he ran whilst sucking money out of the football club. You can't just change sides now he's gone. It's just the way that things work, I'm afraid. Its a long time ago and I don't remember all the details, but if I'm not mistaken that logic -- which would be spot on in most contexts -- did not apply at the time because all of the player contracts were hocked. In other words, that 7 million quid did nothing for us. It reduced a mountainous debt by a minimal and barely perceivable amount. Michael A. Gardiner LAW OFFICES OF MICHAEL A. You have every right to be sceptical and pessimistic, I still remember the Sunday Mr interview from R£o saying he wanted to stay at Leeds - published on the day he gave Riddler his transfer request. [LU] Max wins it all!
http://www.teamtalk.com/leeds-united/6909991/Whites-star-lands-double-award well done Max. as for the last game of the season lets go all out to score even more goals so I reckon its time to try my patented 2-3-3-2 formation that worked so well in Premier League Manager 99; Kasper Naylor O'Brien, Howson, Kilkenny, Johnson Max, Snoddy McCormack Becchio, Paynter ;) Royal Wedding - don't give a fuck, more important issues to resolve to make UK a fairer country. Hope they have a wonderful life together and don't get screwed by the Palace - unlike Billy Davies who I really really hope does. AV - its not real PR, but its still superior in almost everyway to FPtP ttfn Richard. ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org MARCHING ON TOGETHER (There's it)
