Re: [LU] weds

2017-10-03 Thread N H
Looking at the league table two things are apparent.

Our current position still looks good. Fifth place, just 4 points out of top
spot with 6 wins from 11 matches; however, 4 of those wins are against the
bottom four teams whereas the two against teams currently in the top six, we've
faced have yielded 1 point (not forgetting Preston had the ball in our net
ruled out for a tight offside decision.)

Granted Ipswich were in the top six when we beat them, narrowly courtesy of a
fluke goal keeping error but, they have, subsequently fallen away from the pack.

In mid tab we find Windies, Forest and Millwall where our record is played 3,
points 3.

So are we a promotion contender who have just hit a blip at a bad time or did a
fortunate starting schedule flatter to deceive?

I have noticed over the past several years that, regardless of how we are doing
at the time, the international break, more often than not seems to coincide
with change in form/fortune (including the last one) so we'll see if the
current one follows that trend as, with 2 of our next 3 matches against teams
sitting above us currently in third and fourth spots, we may learn a lot about
the team and our prospects for the season.

This is very true, and it does make you wonder if they're just playing in
training against teams who line up with only one forward, because the defence
and midfield are totally lost when we lose possession in our own half and there
are multiple attackers! We also give posession away far too cheaply!

Correct, and it might have been better to have had a limping start to the
season and grown into it, rather than produce a couple of brilliant
performances followed by 3, so far, inept ones! Early days, but plenty of
worrying signs to keep us in our place :-(

Yes he did miss a couple, but he was heads and shoulders above everyone else

Wiedwald seemed to be a bit more pragmatic in his distribution on Sunday, but
he does not dominate has area by any means and despite making some decent saves
his first instinct is to beat the ball away rather than catch it.  It is his
first season in the hurly-burly of English Football.  Other keepers have taken
time to adapt and then come good.

Pennington may become a really top defender, and Cooper has improved leaps and
bounds but neither are as good a Bartley.  Both may be good enough as 3rd/4th
Centre Back, but not as first choice. We did actually miss Cooper's left-foot
diagonal passes, and Jansson looks less at home on the left of the 2, and more
likely to throw himself into reckless challenges.

Both Berardi and Anita are really only stand-ins at left back.  Over the course
of a season they will found out defensively, and neither will offer anything on
the overlap. This is important if the left winger is right-footed and likes to
come inside.
Early indicators seem to be that Borthwick -Jackson is not quite up to it
either.

Once the Wendies took control of the game, it seemed that our defenders had
forgotten how to play against 2 strikers. Hooper and Fletcher seemed to occupy
our entire back 4.  Fletcher was clever enough to keep away from Jannson, often
drifting onto Ayling to attack crosses etc.

With Wallace and Bannen playing narrow, it often gave them 4 v 2 in midfield as
the commentators said.  We might have got away with it had we scored early on,
or if O'Kane had not had one of those games where he kept getting caught in
possession.  I think Phillips has been a bit harshly criticised but as he did
try to get forward at times despite being outnumbered.

Perhaps Saiz should have got more involved in the battle, but it is a bit harsh
to criticize him as he was brilliant in the first 20 mins, and as the game wore
on looked to  be the only Leeds player capable of making a mark on the game
offensively.

Having said all that, it is still a learning curve.  The play-offs were a
realistic target, and the next 6 or 7 games will gauge as to whether that we be
a struggle, comfortable or something even better is possible.

First 20 Saiz was brilliant. That run he did past 5 men from his own half
was like Maradona...then a lovely ball onto Alioskis head. I'm going
off Alioski fast. If he'd have scored that it may well have been a very
different game.

(I also think if Lassoggas shot had gone in instead of hitting the post we
just might have turned it round.)

As it waswe were lucky not to lose 6 or 7 nil.

No wonder you were so pessimistic. First 25 minutes Bannan never got a kick and
we looked totally in control.

I think the goal changed things and as the commentator pointed out I think this
is the area of improvement for us. If we score first we seem to kick on and win
matches if we concede first we crumble.

I was impressed with the starta great response to the Cardiff game. we
were lively, first to the ball, saiz was making things happen and inspiring our
lads to make runswe could/should have had 3 already before they scored.

but. wiedwald had already partied a shot he should ve saved and then some poor
marking, uncommanding keeping 1-0 and the game changed.

seemed we d been full of thoughts of 2nd place, just 1 behind Cardiff, when
suddenly, the unthinkable, we might lose we might have to fight for a point
even and they went mad. lost all form and composure and it was game over.

our players lost the plot, weds seized on it, surrounded our only remaining
weapon saiz, and went for it.

the defense were awry, the centre got worse and worse, the wings ceased to
exist and the keeping was shocking.

to be fair, I thought Felix, who I have not yet rated as a keeper, did ok for
most of the second half. but it was too late by then.

this team has shown it can playJust now needs to find how to do that when
the going gets tough. relatively optimistic.

Re: [LU] weds

2017-10-02 Thread {broken-address} Richard Walker
No wonder you were so pessimistic. First 25 minutes Bannan never got a kick
and we looked totally in control.
