Oh man! RIP Dave. A man who lived life to the full - a true inspiration. So many hilarious stories from his travels. Never let the Lards down. Very sad to hear this. A name I know well from the list. Not sure that I ever met him - I did once go to watch the Lards at Hinckley Town and chatted with a few listers, though never actually managed to get names (I seem to remember chatting to the Princesses of Tonga for a while). Sad to hear this. I met Dave many years ago at World Net. I can't remember if I knew about his toe in advance or if I learnt about it there but I do remember wondering how it would affect him walking considering the amount of work your big toe actually does.Dave was delighted to show me his false big toe and said he was fine :-)Funny the things you remember 20 odd years later!Rest in peace Dave. The LeedsList has lost a great stalwart in Dave Dowden. Made an absolute legend of himself at Worldnet when my brother Jim and I attended way back in... was it 1999 ... in Adel? Apart from his antics, he also formed part of the backbone of this list, which still goes strong to this day. Take care brothers and sisters as we pay our last respects to Dave, and we wish him a speedy and now painless journey to Listers' Paradise. That's exactly what I was (less well done as yourself) trying to say with my post Ian. Essentially we may not know each other but we do know each other, albeit virtually. It is therefore still just as sad and upsetting if one of that group passes away., as it is in real life. Re: [LU] Dave Dowden.
Really sorry to hear this news. I haven't met many of you lot in person but we have all been on this list for a fairly long time now and in some weird digital way we all sort of know bits about each other. Rest in Peace Dave. From: Leedslist on behalf of John Boocock Sent: Tuesday, 10 January 2023 3:09 AM To: leedslist@gn.apc.org Subject: [LU] Dave Dowden. Dear all, Quite a few of you will know that lister and member of the Leeds Lards worldnet team, Dave 'Lido' Dowden has been ill with cancer this past two years. His illness finally got the better of him late on Sunday night. He was at home with his family having turned what was a six month assessment into two very full years. Those of you who knew Dave would know that he was a devoted Leeds fan but there was so much more to him. He was a munroist, he enjoyed cycling, and took an active part in politics in Pudsey. In recent years he was a leading light in the Pudsey Greenside Greenway project. He also liked a good fire! A committed traveller, there were few places he had not visited and anyone who shared those trips will confirm that they were always er, eventful. He made many of the matches abroad during our most recent European campaigns and quite a few of us shared those trips. (Anyone going to the Barca game will remember him and Chris Fitz staying above a sex shop which they were convinced was run by nuns). I can not begin to list all the adventures, stories and mishaps he was involved in (he was short of a big toe after an accident with a lawn mower). One thing I can say is they were many. Maybe one day someone will collect them. Anyway, he now joins the other listers in the great list retirement home in the sky. Dave was a one off and will never be forgotten. Re: [LU] Dave Dowden.
Such sad news John. Knowing Dave’s diagnosis since you told me, seeing him zipping around on his bike, camping, climbing hills and generally ‘cracking on’ was genuinely inspirational. A lovely bloke and always ready with a tale - commiserations to all of you who knew him much better than me, and deepest sympathy to his friends and family. Re: [LU] Dave Dowden.
I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the loss to the list, Leeds United and, most importantly, his family, Dave Dowden. I did not know Dave personally and to my mind we never met, knowingly. I suspect we may well have met on one or other Lards outings at the Worldnet tournament latterly held in Adel. My deepest sympathies I extend to his family and hope they might find a little comfort in the fact that his real and virtual friends will likewise miss him and honour his memory. RIP Dave. The list remembers you.
