I would start with looking at the split nut, loose or broken bolts around the
bracket mechanism that works the split nut it might be stopping the nut from
completely engaging look underneath the vice I think is where you look for it.
If not then look and see if the thread on both is ok and not worn out. And of
course a good wash and clean. Without seeing it that’s about all the advice I
can think of.. ps there is a spring that works the quick release is worth a
check I think its up the end near its handle I hope this helps it been a while
since I looked at a record vice

Hi Boys!,

I hope this enquiry will be allowed air time!?

I need to pick your collective brains.

My quick release Record 52½E vise, is not undoing.

After clamping a piece of wood in the jaws, when I try to un-wind the vice to
remove the  wood, the winding bar handle wont unwind the jaws, and the quick
release lever sort of jumps/jerks when the bar handle is turned. I am guessing
that the split nut(?) needs adjusting? Please can anyone advise.

To release the jaws, I have to press the quick release lever at the same time
as turning the bar  handle.

Thanks for your time

2020-01-27 Thread 'joe biunno' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
have to say, the good thing about those Legacy "legs"(as Legacy called
them...the red, vertical pieces that connect the bottom rail with the top
rail) is the fact that you could adjust the front-to-back orientation of
the top rail to achieve a better parallel setup of the two top rails to
each other... this was critical to me and my setup, and I was fortunate
that I had extra legs to use when putting my machine together... wish I
could buy more... Curtis, I noticed in the last picture(the one with the
wooden stop block), that what looks like the middle of your machine, there
is a flat, red piece of metal connecting the lower rail to the top rail...
is this a Legacy piece?... or a piece you made or modified?... also, nice
repurpose of the mechanical wire terminals on your mod... aluminum is a
great material to work with, but for the fact that it is not easily
weldable... Joe B.

Better than just made in the USA, it’s made in Oregon! Home sweet home!

Tim,

Very nice work. The BIG Deal on your tape - in addition to the
"OrnamentalMills.com" of course - was the "USA"!

I trust that that means "they" (assuming you had several made) were "Made in
the USA" (Like we always hear the Woodpecker product videos state.)
