Re: mill for sale

2020-12-13 Thread 'Curt George' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
 Nice find Bill
for the price it looks, very nice. The 1000ex is the base unit that I own. With
a  turn table and the mill$850.00 is a pretty good deal.It should be noted,
that the 1000ex has a MT2 tailstock, so it can take a number of different lathe
tail piece. (something the newer machine can not do.) It also has the plastic
bushings in the headstock, (the newer machines had ball bearings.) not a big
deal that is unless you plan to turn Large turnings and or put a high speed
motor on the headstock.

Curt (and all),

I think I said this in an earlier comment on this Mill: I would not be
surprised if the owner of this Mill started to put it together and never got
around to finishing the task. I say this for a couple reasons. It looks too
"pristine" - no Mill I have seen posted for sale has looked this "new".

The photos reflect that it was either:

1. Not completely put together - which is why we don't see the X-Axis rod and
its associated pieces on it, the Follower Nut for the Y-Axis Carriage, and the
"gear train" installed. Even the "Dust Collection" pieces are squeeky clean
and some still in their wrappers.

or

2. They put it together; used it; then took it apart and did an EXCEPTIONALLY
GOOD job of cleaning it up for the photographs. (Doesn't pass a "common sense
test".)

What do the rest of ya'll think?

Here is a question I asked earlier - and no one has addressed it. Anyone have
a guess or know what they are for?

"Go to the next to the last photo - the one with the 2 good sized pieces of MDF
with bolts & wingnuts in them.

Any idea what those two MDF pieces are for?

My guess is they were to be put horizontally between the two lower frame
extrusions - serving as a work surface for milling flat work pieces."

Thanks.

Mac

Re: mill for sale

2019-09-08 Thread 'Curt George' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
 Good morning Mac.
You could be right, about this mill not being put into use before.  (I will
also point out that there are plastic sides that should be in the carriage
assembly.)
I think the boards were made to do, flat work milling.(again looks to be
un-used)
NOW on to the BIG Question. WHO needs this  unit?  It could make someone a very
nice machine.( But I cant use it. even though the price looks affordable.)

Re: mill for sale

2014-06-13 Thread CURTIS GEORGE
Hello everyone.
This machine looks Great, mint condition , lot of goodies... one small tid-bit
though the head stock is bushings not ball bearings. for most that little fact
will mean very little, the bushings are easy to replace and not expensive, but
for those of you who turn Heavy wood stock, this means you will need to replace
the bushing, more often,So call Legacy and see if you can still buy those
bushings, Im sure that it will be no problem, but it is something that should
be known. for the price, I think this machine is a good deal.
Have a great day.

Re: Mill for sale

2014-06-12 Thread vtcarpentry
I am in south western Vermont, about 45 minutes east of Albany New York. I
am not selling out, I have an extra mill. I bought an unused 1800 a little
while ago with a few options, dust collection, casters, gear sets, lots of
router bits. I then found another mill in Boston from the original owner
that had the z-axis upgrade, template follower upgrade, rotary table,
vertical and horizontal clamps and more bits all still in the original
boxes. The mill I'm selling does have the .25 and x2 gear sets. I don't
need 2. I will try to post some pictures soon. The price negotiable. Thanks
Paul.

Nice find Bill I over looked this one.
Its not a 1000 even if the head stock sticker is. This is a 800 EX series. (if
you look in the Legacy mag. vol. 2 page 17 this unit is the one in the picture.)
I think that price is also to high. But it is a buyers market?

have a good night all.

Re: mill for sale

2013-11-30 Thread Tim Krause
You are correct Curt. This is not the first time the machine has been listed
on Ebay. I sent a note to the seller letting them know the machine is not a
model 1000 but I did not get any reply and there has been no change in the
listing details.

None of this is true.
a.. 3.5 thick by 14 wide flat stock capacity ( actual 2 x8)
a.. 10 dia. by 60 round stock capacity (actual 7.5 x 48)
a.. Spiral Pitches: 2, 3, 4, 4 1/2, 5, 6, and 7 1/2 per rotation (
actually only 2,3, and 6)
a.. #2MT Headstock and Tailstock ( actual threaded screw )
a.. Live Center (Tailstock) ( actually fixed )
a.. Quick release tailstock ( actually a threaded rod )

It might also be missing a split nut on the x-axis as it's missing in the
photo. I also don't see the adjustment arm or any gears. I say that machine
is worth $400-$600 as it sits. Buyer Beware...
