RE: [LegacyUG] Don't you just HATE it when ...
Been there, done that. Which also cause me to think about what happens when you enter a source as a database or microfiche record and then later are able to match up a digital image. It would be nice to simple take the master source and somehow transfer all the info to a different template without having to create a new master source and probably want to clean things up by going back and removing all the references to the old source. Maybe what I'm dreaming about is along the lines of the now shelved source conversion tool. Sigh! Re: [LegacyUG] Converting Basic Sources to the SourceWriter
How to merge a basic source into Source Writer source using Access. In L7 after vers. 55 sources to be merged must have the same source template ID, (tblSR.TemplateID). Basic TemplateID = 0 and ESM source template IDs are positive integers. Using Access we can manually change a basic TemplateID to match that of the ESM source we want to merge it to. In Legacy: First you must have created at least one Source Writer (SW) source as a model. Tag the 2 sources to be merged (1 SR 1 basic). Check show only tagged sources to verify. Also: Tag all who use the basic source to aid in filling in the citation template later. File Backup Family File and File Save Family File As…Clone.FDB Close Legacy. Open Access Open Look in directory where your FDB file is located Select Files of type: All Files *.* and select your working FDB file. Add the following select query to view the 2 tagged sources: SELECT tblSR.IDSR, tblSR.SrcName, tblSR.Contents, tblSR.UseStandard, tblSR.TemplateID, tblSR.SrcTag FROM tblSR WHERE (((tblSR.SrcTag)=1)); Save as:QconvertBasicSource (You can re-use the same query next time) View the select query in datasheet view. You will see the 2 tagged records. Manually make following changes on the select query to the basic record: Change “TemplateID” of the basic from 0 to equal the positive ID of the SR source. Change “UseStandard” on the basic from 1 to 0. Notice “Contents” of SR record contains a template but the basic remains blank. Close Access. Open Legacy. View Master List Sources. You should see the2 or more tagged sources. Legacy now can merge the former basic source(s) into the proper ESM source since they now have same TemplateID. (Note: Due to a bug in current Legacy version, when you select a SR source then click the button “Combine Highlighted Source with Another in List” nothing happens until you first click “Edit” then “Cancel”. Now again click “Combine…” and it changes to “Highlight Destination….” Go through tagged individuals to fill in citation detail templates, only recorded date will be there. Multimedia will be attached and Text/Comments will be there as well. Untag individuals as templates are filled in till no more tagged individuals. If you need to see what was on the first tab of Source Detail, Detail Information open your clone database. Use Legacy Split view with main data and clone with unconverted source. -- Richard Van Wasshnova http://www.gencircles.com/users/vanwasshnova http://gw.geneanet.org/vanwasshnova On Fri, Oct 23, 2009 at 8:32 PM, Charles Apple apple1...@embarqmail.com wrote: Hi Richard, Thank you, Yes I have Access and I would appreciate the instructions. Rich, Assuming you entered all the data that needs to go into the Source Writer template into the basic source citation, (I definitely did not), and you entered it in the freeform box (Detail Information) consistently in the same order and preceeded each fact with the same title as used by the Source Writer, then just maybe Legacy will produce a source conversion tool that will work for you and fill in the template for you. FWIW, I gave up on Legacy's charting quite some time ago. I now use FamilyTree SuperTools v2 ( http://www.whollygenes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?screen=FTST ) from the makers of TMG. For a descendant report, only a thumbnail of the image is printed. For a family group sheet, nothing is printed. What is the correct procedure to have source pictures printed in a report? How are people tackiling the problem to have the image dispalyed on a web page (other than putting html code into a note or what ever. Re: [LegacyUG] Favorite Features - #2
I just open four windows and shrink them down to fill 1/4 of the screen each. I will look at the Acer page next. But you do need to have a large screen to start with Alastair Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
Re: [LegacyUG] Family Search
Way back in early Sep Michele wrote: Regarding the news that Legacy will be synchronized with Family Search... A worker at the Family History Center was showing me Family Search and how she was entering data. I forgot to ask her something and I hope you will know. When you enter data/update the Family Search family tree, is there a place to enter sources (and if so, I assume that Legacy will automatically send the sources along with the data)? When I was watching her enter stuff, I didn't see any source info at all. I don't want to use any info off of there if sources are not included. There are still changes being made to New Family Search so we have been advised not to enter sources for now. They still can't promise that they will not be affected by the changes. When we can sync up our Legacy database, lt will be an easy matter to transfer sources over, an expert tells me. I imagine the Family History Center personnel have been so advised. Re: [LegacyUG] Converting Basic Sources to the SourceWriter
I understand the fact that I did not set up Basic to move easily into Conversion in the past. I also know it will not pull information from nowhere. I am a splitter, and so I have 2000+ sources for my 2+ names. I am still adding details, about 150 a week, with the Basic stuff, and will convert in a slow time. Too much new stuff to worry about cleanup. And I can also hope. I know I will never be able to use a Legacy Source Conversion Tool to do it all for me. -- Richard Van Wasshnova http://www.gencircles.com/users/vanwasshnova http://gw.geneanet.org/vanwasshnova On Fri, Oct 23, 2009 at 8:41 PM, RICHARD SCHULTHIES fourpa...@verizon.net wrote: As an oldtimer, I am still waiting for the conversion system.
