RE: [LegacyUG] Master Source (SW) Comment problem - Attn Legacy staff, please
Jenny, There are just a few templates where the Comments field appears within the Source Info tab. We include it there because Elizabeth Mills suggested that an explanation/evaluation of the source be included with the citation. You are correct that whatever comments are entered in this field on the Source Info tab of the Master Source are automatically included in the Comments section of the Text/Comments tab. However, it does appear that the Include on reports checkmark does not remove the comments from the citation. I'll talk with Dave about this for a resolution. Thanks for your research into this. Geoff Rasmussen -Original Message- From: k...@legacyfamilytree.com [mailto:k...@legacyfamilytree.com] On Behalf Of Jenny M Benson Sent: Tuesday, September 22, 2009 10:09 AM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyFamilyTree.com Subject: [LegacyUG] Master Source (SW) Comment problem - Attn Legacy staff, please Jenny M Benson wrote I have a Comment on a Master Source which is *not* checked for inclusion in Reports, but it is being included, and it is included on every Citation using that Master Source. Further information about this. I now see why this is occurring. On some SW templates (I have now seen it on ArtifactsPrivately held and Family Group SheetPrivately held) there is a field named Comments on the Source Info screen, the main screen for inputting Master Source data. Any text which is entered into the usual Comments about this master source field are automatically copied into the Comments field. Obviously the Comments field is not picking up on the contents of the checkbox for Include on Reports which appears under the Comments about this master source. (Nor the First time/Each time radio buttons.) I wonder if a Legacy staffer could comment on whether or not this is intentional. I hope it is *not* because I usually use the Comments about this master source for information which I do not wish to have appear on Reports and where the entry is quite long I certainly don't want it appearing every time the Master Source is cited. I can conceive of occasions when one would want to add a Comment to be part of the printed Master Source *and* Comments about this master source which were not for publication. For the moment I am working around the problem by including my long not-for-publishing comments in the Copy of the text from this master source field over which I have some control! -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

Thanks for that, Geoff! I think there are at least several LUGgers who agree with me that it would be a good idea to have *both* Comments fields, but independent of each other. That would allow for a brief explanation/evaluation to appear on Reports but also a (perhaps longer) Comment which is really only of relevance/interest to the compiler or might include private information such as the names of living people. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

Once in awhile, my input text in those fields doesn't eliminate the gray 'hint text' and BOTH come up in the finished source text. Usually I catch it in time and delete the offending text. Thought it was me. Marilyn- If it is a repeatable problem (that is, a problem you can forcibly reproduce), might as well as report it to: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Problems.asp Thanks. Re: [LegacyUG] Master Source (SW) Comment problem - Attn Legacy staff, please
Jenny, I think you should just go ahead and report that as a bug. If it was ever intentional, then it was a design bug (as opposed to a programming bug). After the 'Comments about this master source' have been surreptitiously copied to the 'Comments' field, can you manually clear the Comments field, as a workaround?
