We had a similar experience during a recent Legacy group meeting.  Our
group leader had just installed the latest Legacy update, before the
meeting, and he had a really funky looking window.  Some items
appeared larger then they should be.  For example, the right side of
the Home View screen was gone.  The Option button that is on the right
hand side of the screen was not there.  In the Family View, when we
went to an individuals event view to enter a persons birth date a
birth location, the word in which is located in the beginning of a
location was hidden behind the location entry module.  This made
navigating through the program quite difficult.  Since that meeting, I
have updated to the latest revision of Legacy and didn't experience
any problems.  We still don't know what caused our group leaders
 problem.

Hi Brian:

I realize that you are not the OP...

Some of us had this discussion a while back. First of all, we need to
keep in mind that the Jet database is being updated by Legacy as you
enter data, not at the end when you quit Legacy.

Secondly, if the database resides in a Dropbox folder, Dropbox monitors
the file for changes and only uploads the changed portion of the file.
So if you make a change in a 20mb file, Dropbox will determine the
chunk of the file that was updated (by some proprietary mechanism) and
only uploads that chunk.

Dropbox does have safeguards in place to handle competing updates ... I
vaguely remember reading about this months ago. Google is your friend. I
would definitely read up on this and create a bulletproof recovery plan
before proceeding in this direction.

And using Legacy in this fashion probably voids your warranty. ;-)

[LegacyUG] Changing default file locations

2011-04-18 Thread Ron Goodwin
Is there any way to change the default file locations within Legacy?

Because I have so many families I have a directory where I break everything
down va their surname, e.g.
My Genealogy\Boles
My Genealogy\Boles\Birth Documents
My Genealogy\Boles\Death Documents
My Genealogy\Boles\Marriage Documents
Etc, and I have over 50 such directories

Legacy's default locations are:
C:\legacy\data
C:\legacy\pictures
C:\legacy\sounds
C:\legacy\docs
Etc

Legacy won't allow me to type in a new file location and when I attempt to
use the mouse/windows icon to identify the new location it takes me as far
as c:\users but won't move down beyond that point.

I am running Windows 7 so all my documents are located within the Documents
directory under the Libraries.

Has anyone found a workaround for this problem?
