Dave,

Use Advanced Tagging to tag the descendants and export them as a Legacy file,
or create a GEDCOM of the tagged records.

[LegacyUG] Annotating my research onto a friend's GEDCOM

2011-12-11 Thread ArdenholmeGenealogy
Hello group,

Thank you for letting me join in your group.

I have been using Legacy for quite a few years and have enjoyed using it
tremendously.

I did some research for my friend earlier this year. Meanwhile she had
constructed what she knew onto another software program, and then exported
into GEDCOM.

She wanted my research put into her GEDCOM so she gave me her file for me to
add my research on it so it will still be the one file. I have converted her
GEDCOM into Legacy.

However to separate our data - her original data and my research data - it
would be good to ensure that any information (when I give back the GEDCOM
file to her) i.e. any additions/amendments that I have put in i.e. not her
original data, but my data, is to be seen with my name across it or at least
indicates that it is not the original information that she supplied but from
my research.

Thank you,

Jemima Buoy

[LegacyUG] Colors for events

2011-12-11 Thread Marli Yoder
Hi all, have a question. Would it work to have colors for events? I know it
would maybe look like an Easter egg, but if I had all say death
certificate events (just the event name) in blue, I could see quickly that I had
one. Would this be better than name sorting the events? I date sort them now, so
sometimes I have to go down the list anyway. Could they print in color on
reports? Or would this all work better in the to-do list? Or just better not to
do at all?

2011-12-11 Thread Leon Chapman
I would suggest you add a master source with your name as part of the
source information to all of your data.
If you just have your data in one Legacy file, you can create a master
source with you name and whatever information you want as part of the
master source and then under advance sourcing assign that master
source to every field in your database.

Then import her GEDCOM data and you will have one file with your
research data sourced to you and her original data in one file.

A second options would be to create a GEDCOM of the research that
you've done. Send it to her and let her incorporate it into her file.

You can customize the colors of the data content so that anything that has a
source attached is a different color. Go to optionscustomizecolors and you
can change the way your screens look. I have mine so the data is blue then if
there is a source it is red.

Re: [LegacyUG] Colors for events

2011-12-11 Thread Brett McL Robinson
Hi Marli

Picking up on your reaction to Russ, what I would do (in addition to the
colour for details with sources) is fine tune my source labels so that
the words stand out for you in the Assigned Sources list. If you give
your Master Source a Source List Name that you can see easily you can
get your quick check from the Assigned Sources list. For example all the
master sources that have a death certificate have the Source list Name
starting with DEATH CERTIFICATE... (ie capitals if it helps you
identify the sources you are wanting to monitor, and no caps for the
others). Do note that the Source List Name is purely for your benefit
and does not usually print out in reports (if ever?).

Cheers, Brett
