If necessary, go into FT to find out the FS ID of your entry there.

Then,I would just check again that Legacy FT doesn't suggest your other
self as a match. If not, look near the top of the screen and you will
see an unlink this person button. Click on it and your Legacy self
will be unlinked and you will just have your FT self remaining.

Now you can try again to link yourself and if it doesn't offer the
existing record, click on Advanced Search and enter the FS ID of your
record and you can then link your Legacy record.

you need to keep doing that?

If you continue with your present setup (ie two separate files plus the
combined one) the only way to keep it all current is to update two files with

one day you will forget to update the second file and then it's all out of

Why not just go forward with the new combined file? Then you will only have to
enter data once, you will have only one set of master files (locations,
sources, ...), and life would be much easier for you. And when you discover
that your mother was related to your father in some obscure way (as many of us
do!) you've already got everything in the one file ready to make that
connection.

You may have good reasons for keeping your two sides of the family separate,
which is why I'm saying to think about it, not to just do what I say. :-)

Works best for me to use the split screen view, pedigree view, and find
someone who is in both files, if possible. Drag and drop from the same
person in the left file to the one on the right. Review ALL the options
for merging to make sure you get everything.

Do not stop the merging procedure before it is completed!

Then do file Maintenance as soon as you have completed the merging.

Re: [LegacyUG] Mobile Apps for Legacy

2014-03-02 Thread Ron Bernier
Charles,

Families most definitely does work with Legacy 8. I have a iPhone iPad,
but I know that Malcolm Green (Families developer) has updated both the iOS
and Android versions to work with Legacy 8.

Pocket Genealogist is for older Windows phones.

Families is designed to work only with Legacy. I have it on my Galaxy
S4 and Kindle Fire and it works great

However, I just discovered there's a bug in that IrfanView doesn't

It does for me, version 4.37.

I didn't have this plug-in before... thanks, it's great.

[LegacyUG] L8 charts seem bloated

2014-03-02 Thread Jacob Psutka
I have a problem emailing my charts created under L8. Under L7.5, charts
were about 350 kb. and could easily be emailed. Under L8, same chart, with
addition of two people, are almost 16,000 kb. and cannot be emailed as an
attachment.

Any suggestions on how to reduce the chart size? Why did it become so
bloated?

Regards,

Jacob
