Also, if there are multiple spouses, on the Descendant Options screen, be sure
it is selected for All Spouses or at least the correct spouse.

Cheryl,

Make sure that you have the correct TAG selected where it reads :Make Changes
on #

That needs to be the tag number you want.

Then when you click descendants, make sure the Number of Generations to
include is set high enough to include everyone you want.

[LegacyUG] How can I show which individuals I think are correct

2014-08-12 Thread J.M. Jay Ingalls
My legal birth certificate given name is J.M., Two capital letters, Two
periods, no spaces. For years, most software prevented entering that.
Worst was my application to the University of Michigan, instructions
said to use (only) after each initial on the application form for a name
with initials only, so I was listed as Jonly Monly. Also started most
grade and high school classes with an arguement with my teachers! What
is your real name? Not the best way to start a new relationship. Many
more stories!

I usually use the Birth Certificate name as the primary name for most
people in my data, then enter the alternate names, which allows me to
find them in my data with those names also.

I think you should find that most of the legal information should be based on

We have a grandson that his legal name is JJ Allen Surname, he is always

My grandson has quite a few given names - one is only a letter.
His father called him 'Buddy' when he was small. Just a pet name - not
related to his given names - but it stuck.
I first and still call him by a diminutive of the name he's known by. I
didn't and don't like that name. No secret to the family!
But I have added info on these all to my programme info. For the one, I am
the source. I should go back and check old Facebook posts to add to that. Of
course, these references tell you something about his dad and about me too.
And someday, someone may wonder why these names appear for him so
 consistently.

Re: [LegacyUG] Basic question about citing sources

2014-08-12 Thread Leon Chapman
I would always include all the details you can from the original
source. Mother, father, dates, location, etc. I place all of that in
the source facts. If you use the detail part of sourcing, then it
should go there.

What is the proper way to cite, say, a birth or marriage source? Is it
proper to just cite the information describing where the details can be
found, or should one include the details in the citation? Pretty basic
question, I suppose, but I've never given it much thought until recently.
