Re: [LegacyUG] Geo-Location Tool

2015-12-03 Thread Boyd Miller
If these GeoCountrycodes.txt and GeoCountyCodes.txt files are used by
the Geo Location database, then which files are used for the
Expand/Contract Location Parts?

Can files used for the Expand/Contract process be modified?

I don't think there is a way of doing that without breaking the links.

The good news is that Legacy can go looking for the files and set the new
links.

If you have a backup on or near the relevant date, it would show the status
of entries at that time.

Re: [LegacyUG] Bulk Moving of Media

2015-12-03 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Maurice,

Yes it can be done.

First you'll need to use the Legacy Backup for Media to collect the
media for each family file. (File - Backup File - the Media section)
Then unzip it into your new media folder for that family file (you use
your computer to do the unzip, not Legacy)
Then in Legacy with the right Family File open, go to Options -
Customise 6.2 and select your new media folder for that family file.
That may be all you need to do to have all the media relinked.
Check by running Tools - Media Relinker. (actually it would be a good
idea to run this before you start to make absolutely sure all the media
is linked to start with).
If the Media Relinker reports broken links, use it to relink making sure
you choose the copy of the media in the appropriate media folder.

Once you've done this for all your files, you can delete the media in
the folder they're in now.

So long as you don't rename media files or remove them from your
computer, the Media Relinker can find them.

[LegacyUG] Bulk Moving of Media

2015-12-03 Thread Maurice Hemingway
I have all my media files stored in the one (default) subdirectory as selected
by the programme when I am adding photos etc.

I have about 100 separate Legacy trees and whilst most only have a few
families, there are about eight or ten large family files with quite a lot of
photos etc.  This all works well except because of the way that I want to work
in future, I need the media files in separate subdirectories that would carry
the same name as the Legacy file that they are associated with.
My question is, please can someone tell me if there is there a way to undertake
a mass movement of the media files to their appropriate new subdirectory and do
this without breaking the existing links in Legacy 8?
