[LegacyUG] Legacy and Mac

Just curious: Does anyone know if there is a planned version of Legacy that
will run under macOS?

I love Legacy but having to fire up Parallels and Windows 10 every time I want
to use it is a real pain.

That’s why I’m leaning more toward using Ancestral Quest. Although it’s a
Windows program, Incline Software wraps it in a customized version of WINE (or
Crossover, I can’t tell which). So it runs “natively” on my iMac.

For anyone disillusioned with Legacy, a viable replacement might be Ancestral
Quest. Like Legacy, they have a free version. They also have a Mac version.

Disclaimer: I use both. For now. But I’m leaning toward switching completely to
AQ.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Family Tree for Mac

2018-06-11 Thread David Trussell
So, no.

I also have have the “Mac version” of Ancestral Quest which is running on a
customized and optimized WINE (or Crossover, I can’t tell).

Not knowing the particulars, maybe this would be an option??

I’m just getting tired of switching to Parallels to use LFT. But thanks for
your answer.

To a large degree that will depend on whether the Legacy developers and
Millennia want to rebuild the entire program from scratch.

The current version, and those earlier, are based on Visual Basic v6, which
went legacy in 2008 and is now totally out of date. Unlikely that Microsoft
will stop supporting it, as that would break a large number of applications,
including those developed and used by major businesses.

Conversion to the current Visual Basic .NET is possible, but it is not
backwards compatible and the conversion process is not possible for most
projects.--

Is anybody aware if a Mac version of LFT is either planned and/or in
development?

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Program for Macintosh Computer - When?

2017-12-12 Thread David Trussell
I also use Ancestral Quest on my Mac. It’s a Windows program, but it’s wrapped
in a customized version of WINE. It runs as if it was a native Mac app.

Perhaps Legacy could take a page out of Incline Software’s book?

Also, if one must switch to a native Mac app, some would consider Reunion to be
the best. No interface to FamilyTree/FamilySearch, though.

Re: [LegacyUG] New to Group

2016-10-13 Thread David Trussell
I also have Ancestral Quest installed on my Mac. It’s still a Windows program
but it runs under a customized version of Wine for Mac supplied by Incline
Software, so it appears as a “native” Mac app.

I really wish Legacy Family Tree would do something like that. Or, better yet,
make a MacOS version of Legacy. I’d like to move away from Parallels Desktop.

I use Legacy on my iMac running Parallels. I’m pretty much a rookie at Legacy.
What kinds of tips?

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy on a Mac Using Parallels

2015-04-11 Thread David Trussell
I am a rank rookie Legacy user and have pretty much the same setup you have. I
played with mine and assigned a photo to my father that was in my Mac home
directory. The photo showed OK. I closed Legacy and re-opened. The photo was
there as I left it. I haven’t tried attaching any documents.

I would like to know how to put documents and photos from my Mac side into
Legacy. Whenever I’ve entered documents and photos, they show up in Legacy.
However, the next time I open Legacy my work has disappeared. Even photos I
use as the primary photo for the Family Page disappear. I’ve been really
frustrated and need help. What’s worked for you? Any suggestions?
