Re: [LegacyUG] Gedcom of Direct Line Ancestors
Ron, The names were listed in the AKA box, not in quotes in the given name box (which is usually how I list a nickname). I did not use an appropriate example for what I place in the AKA box. I usually only put spelling variations such as "Bersheba" for Bathsheba or very different names that they may be known by, and not nicknames, in the AKA box. In this example, "Bersheba" would appear as the ancestors name in the FTDNA gedcom and not "Bathsheba Traylor". Bersheba was not her nickname, just a quite frequent transcription error? I will remember to check that box the next time I export another gedcom (which I will do soon for my daughter). I was exporting a gedcom for a Family Finder DNA test, not a Y-DNA test, and I did want both male and female lines included. Following the instructions you gave me it did include all the direct line ancestors, both male and female. Thanks again, Lynda From: Ron Ferguson To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Sent: Sun, October 28, 2012 2:47:50 PM Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Gedcom of Direct Line Ancestors Lynda, You do not say where you are including the AKA “Sally” – in the AKA box or in quotes in the name? If the former, on Export to GEDCOM click the Customise Button and on the list *not* to export, at the bottom of the page, check “Alternate Names” BTW. if you read my comments to Ron Taylor these were based on the premise that you only required the male ancestors of your husband, since for Y-DNA the females play no part. I now have a direct line (both male and female lines) for my husband. My Legacy software book (older version), Legacy software help menu, nor online info was able to help me figure it out. One would think, with all the new DNA genealogy, that Legacy developers would make it easier to select lines of people (whatever their criteria) for a gedcom. One interesting note, when I upload this gedcom to FTDNA, all of the people that have an alternate name in the Alternate Names button on the family page overrides the Given and Surname field when it is uploaded. An example is Sarah Smith (with alternate name of Sally) shows as only Sally with no last name. I am having to go through and delete that info from each person's page if I want their name to display correctly. Thanks again! [LegacyUG] Gedcom of Direct Line Ancestors
Hello, I am trying to create a gedcom of my husband's direct line ancestors to post on a DNA site. I can only include birth and death date and location info of his direct line (no other info and no other individuals). I do not want a report, I want a gedcom file. I cannot figure out a way to do this, aside from laboriously going thru every unwanted person in my data and deleting them (my file is VERY large). I have tried tagging and ended up wiping out my entire file. I have tried to create a "focus group" but my export includes all my file, not just the individual and ancestors. I cannot view the focus group and so have no idea what it may contain. I have seen reference to a "miscellaneous search" to see the contents of a focus group but cannot find that button or word anywhere in my software. I am totally lost. Anytime I search for something in the Legacy help file it refers me to something that I cannot find, or which leads to another reference to a "button" I cannot locate. I am not a new Legacy user, but am a basic user. I do not use advanced functions in my daily entry of data. I am using the latest "build" of Legacy.
