[LegacyUG] Individual Chart

2015-06-24 Thread Jo Poi
Just updated to 8.0.0.501 and now find that when I click on individual
chart for a person it goes straight into the print preview screen
instead of the options window.
Easy enough to get back by pressing the close button, but is this how
it is now ?

And yet another user who has exactly the same problem, and has had it
for well over a year.
I have mentioned it before but to no avail.

When I create an Individual Report for this person the Birth details

the
Baptism details etc are pushed down to accommodate the Birth
picture.
However, the 2nd Event is not pushed down to accommodate the photo
attached to the 1st Event so this photo overlaps the area of the 2nd
Event and the family details and a long line of text giving the
Spouse's
details runs over the picture. If I opt for a Lined Report, the lines
run across the Event Picture.

Could someone from Support please advise if this should be reported as
a
bug?

You can't distinguish between Vital Events and other Events but you
can get a list of just Event Pictures, who they're attached to and
why.
We need more options in this area.

Those ARE Events: they are generally referred to as the Vital Events.

When you print the report as Cathy suggested you will see that media
linked to Vital Events will show described as Birth Media File or
Buried

Event Name.

Pictlist.dbm file makes logical sense, but then that gives me a
problem in that I have my database and media files on a USB memory
stick so that I can use Legacy on my desktop and netbook. The problem
I have is that on one computer some pictures are shown with a + and
others with a - and on the other machine the + and - vary, and vice
versa. BUT all pictures are given their correct locations at the
bottom of the picture centre.
Which would seem to indicate that there is a problem with the - and +

Following on from Mikes example.. I only have one picture called
grandpa.bmp available to any and everything this is located in folder
Z:mediagrandpa.bmp. When I look at grandpa in Legacy on desktop in the
picture centre it shows a ' + ' next to grandpa.bmp and gives the
correct location of Z:mediagrandpa.bmp.
When I look at grandpa in Legacy on netbook in the picture centre it
shows a ' - ' next to grandpa.bmp but also gives the correct location
of Z:mediagrandpa.bmp.

From the 7.5 Help file - topic = Picture Centre

The U column to the left of the file names indicates whether or not
each picture
has been attached to someone in your family file already. The + means
that
picture in that folder has been attached to someone. The - means that
file name
has been attached to someone but from a different picture folder. For
example,
you may be looking at grandpa.bmp in the LegacyPictures folder but
another file
called grandpa.bmp in the LegacyReunionPictures folder is currently
being used
somewhere in your file. (You should be careful not to have different
picture
files with the same name located in different folders. It will surely
confuse
you at some point…

By default, it's the first picture that you add. You can change that
to any other picture by right clicking on the picture you want as
Preferred.

The Preferred Picture is the one that prints in reports, charts and
webpages Since only one picture can print how would the program know
which one to include among many a person may have linked to any Media
Gallery unless one is flagged as preferred?

You also have the option to include only tagged preferred or only
untagged preferred.

I did reference that help topic but I didn't know that a preferred

was mandatory if there were any pictures in the Media Gallery. Upon
rereading the topic I did not see that mentioned, although upon
reflection
it kind of makes sense. When I don't see something specifically
mentioned in

If a preferred setting were not mandatory you could have none of the
pictures for an individual set as preferred then it wouldn't be
necessary to
mess with the Customize options which in themselves cause confusion
at
 times.

[LegacyUG] Event sentence

2014-06-11 Thread Jo Poi
Using 'Sentence/Event' from the help file I came to the conclusion
that if I include the following

in a sentence it would insert the 'notes' only if I had included
notes. Unfortunately that does not work.
Any suggestions as to how I could achieve my objective ?

[LegacyUG] Detailed Search

2014-03-20 Thread Jo Poi

I want to do a detailed search for everyone with death notes, but
having selected 'Individual' 'Notes-Death' 'Not equal To'... in the
'What to look for' column all is I get is 'Select an Event' and the
drop down choice of events.

Every other 'Where to Look' notes works fine and gives the option of
leaving a blank, but not Death.

Is it a bug or am I going about it the wrong way ?

When the icon is half-coloured it indicates that you have added media

Assuming that the event makes sense when copied - you can't cut the
event from
the marriage and paste it to an individual. You can copy it but you'll
have to
delete it from the marriage.

Select the event and edit it. Then using the left of the two buttons
on the
right, copy it to the clipboard.

Now, go to the individual, and add a new event. Then, using the second
of the
two buttons, paste the clipboard into the event. Voila!

You may have to watch out if the original event had a source attached
to it,
because the source will also get copied.

Re: [LegacyUG] ToDo list printing

2014-01-20 Thread Jo Poi

To get the printouts in a set pattern I put the user ID or RIN into
the file no entry.
Then just do a printout with the following options in the To-Do List
Report Options window
Record Selection
All Tasks TICKED...Don't split a task over a page break TICKED...
What to include eg
All the entries in Header Box TICKED...Report Body File ID
TICKED...and include RINS TICKED
Sort Order
Primary File ID... Second any entry...Third any entry.

Then do a preview.
The result is not in order and bottom task on page is split and the
File ID appears as though it is associated with the next task.

You can add the picture to persons and their events within the
Picture Center. I've never had to leave Picture Center to go to an
individual to add pictures. Generally I add all the information to
the pictures first before attaching them to any people. In the
Picture List, you will first have to browse to the folder where your
pictures are located then attach them.

RE: [LegacyUG] Attaching a picture

2014-01-06 Thread Jo Poi
Sherry The method that the Picture Centre help files give are the same
as what I have described, and give the result as I described. CE You
have summed the situation up perfectly, why is it necessary to use
such a convoluted process ?

wondering why the convoluted process. It is a major pain to have to
jump through so many hoops when most pictures have the same caption,
date, and description.
Considering Legacy is based on Access, it is possible to allow the
entry at the Individual/Event/whatever level to carry over to the
Picture Center and ALSO have a way to add specific details to a
specific use of that picture. Programmers can do it; it's just a
matter of doing it

When you're in Picture Center, if you add the Caption Date and
Description to the Picture List tab, then it will be automatically
added when you link a picture.

If it's added to the Attached Pics tab, then it applies only to
that
 instance you're linking to.

This is fully explained in the Help file for Picture Center.

[LegacyUG] Potential Problem

2013-12-31 Thread Jo Poi

I have an individual that has a 'Note' event where the date is before
the birth date.
This shows up as a 'Potential Problem' in the 'Individual's
Information' window.
When I mouseover, Legacy reports event date out of range
I right click and go to Problems tab and tick the entry for
'Event/fact date before birth or after death date'.
and I still get the same potential problem.
When I tick ALL of the boxes in the 'Exclude from Potential Problems'
window I still get the same potential problem warning in the
'Individual's Information' window.
Am I missing something somewhere or is this a bug.

I am using v8.0.0.367

I don't see that it makes any difference where
you live. The Manual is about the functions of Legacy.

If you know your way around Legacy 7.5 well then
you probably don't need the Manual in my opinion
and would find Geoff's Legacy Unlocked more useful.

The new features are much better described in the
Help which is far more extensive and more readily updated.

They are also described in the Video on the
webpage and note that a webinar is scheduled for
the New Year. These can be watched online free
for a time if you can't make the actual time of the webinar.
