[LegacyUG] Legacy Update Procedure

2014-03-04 Thread J.M. Jay Ingalls
It would seem more rational to me to have the Legacy Home button on
the same line as File, Edit, Add, etc. I tend to not see it where it is.
Could it be in both places? And maybe also in the Help menu?

The auto update reminder is not coming up inside of Legacy like it
used to in V7. When I go to Legacy Home from inside of the software,
the box on the right says that I have the latest update .397. No
mention of update .412. Sounds like it's best to hold off for awhile
until some features are ironed out.

You probably saw Sherry’s reply regarding the build number – which we
knew anyway. I had kept earlier versions of Legacy and still have
v7.5 installed – of course that’s a big issue to use the current data
file after it was converted to run on v8. Thanks for the offer of 397
 – I’ll bear with the current one for now and see how they make out
with that. Maybe I’m asking too much – I expect the new releases to
be an Upgrade, not a Downgrade.

Maybe the number jump is the number of bugs fixed – 15?

Not L8 only L7 and earlier can be downloaded from their download site.

I have the download of 397 but it’s far too big to e-mail at 63.7Mb
would you like me to upload it using Send this file?

I think what I may do in future is to download the standard version
and install that as the update then at least I can go backwards in issue.

I agree Geoff. Curious about the jump from 387 to 412 – maybe 412 is
a Beta, it seems quite “buggy”. Is there a way to get back to build 387?

I think I’ll wait to update as previously a few working features now
seem to not be! Maybe some beta testing of updates is needed before
 release!?

The revision list for the last issue (421) is better and shows more
fixes but still doesn’t show ALL fixes.

Including the “F” key to go to Search.

Also missing are the ages of the couple after entering the marriage
date. Now you have to click in the “Status Date” box, then back in
the “Marr Date” box or “in” box. It will also show after putting in
the marriage date and exiting/re-entering the Marriage/Relationship
 Information screen.

They are creating ”problems” as fast as they are fixing others! J

 Mike and Mike,

Note that the Help file for Shortcut Keys does not list the single
key shortcut S but it worked in prior versions. Based on several
other emails, it looks like somebody caused all of these single key
shortcuts to stop functioning in the current release 8.0.0.412. See
the Help file for the other ones including I that you mentioned.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Update Procedure

2014-03-04 Thread Sherry/Support
There is no Legacy Home button. There's a Legacy Home tab but no button.

In earlier versions, there was a Home button on the far left of the
toolbar which took you to the Preferred Startup Family. A lot of
people were confused with the Legacy Home tab and the Home button when
we'd give instructions so Ken changed that button to the Startup
Family on the My Toolbar in v8.

It wouldn't go on the File ribbon since it has nothing to do with
Files but has to do with going to the Preferred Startup Family set in
Options Customize 1.3 (You can also set the Startup Family by
clicking on the icon on the Options ribbon)

Sherry, et al,
Most software I use will pop up an informative dialog when there is an
update with a button to click if you want to do the update. Why can't
Legacy do likewise?

Of course having the blurb showing the most recent version and the
currently installed version with the update link on the home page should be
maintained.

That's a question for the programmers but personally I *hate* pop-ups
of any kind! They get in the way of accomplishing what I set out to do
and I find them totally annoying!
