Legacy 8 will not find your ancestors anywhere. It is only a program for recording the information you find about them. Re: [LegacyUG] fnding ancestors
Brian, Not quite true. After adding known data, FamilySearch and other options within Legacy will help people look for their ancestors. You could suggest some webinars, free Legacy info, etc. == Jay On 3/24/2014 4:47 PM, Brian/Support wrote: Legacy 8 will not find your ancestors anywhere. I thought the OP was asking how they could find all the people in that city within their Legacy database in version 8..like how to do a detailed search for that city. :-) Kathy On Mon, Mar 24, 2014 at 4:00 PM, J.M. Re: [LegacyUG] fnding ancestors
In that case, I would go to the Locations Master List (View Master Lists Location...) and sort right-to-left (Sort Direction of Sort Right to Left) so that all locations within one country were listed together, then all within one county/state/whatever-it-is-for-each-country, and so on down the line. Now, all locations including Dissen in Germany should be grouped together, whether that is a village, town or county/state/whatever - this works regardless of what level your particular place is. Make sure the Show People option is ticked in the Master Location List window. Scroll, search or otherwise move down the list of locations to get to where Dissen makes an appearance. Select a location that is in Dissen and you should see a list of who is using that location. If there is more than one location in the list using Dissen, select each in turn and look at the list of people using that location. If you have your ancestral line bolded, your ancesters will be shown in bold in the list so you can spot them easily amongst all the other people in your database. Hope this helps. :-) Wendy Kathy Meyer said the following on 25/03/2014 12:47 p.m.: I thought the OP was asking how they could find all the people in that city within their Legacy database in version 8..like how to do a detailed search for that city. :-) Kathy in-between conversations snipped On Mon, Mar 24, 2014 at 1:46 PM, L R Michael lrmichae...@charter.net mailto:lrmichae...@charter.net wrote: What, how, where in Legacy 8 will I be able to find my ancestors in DISSEN, GERMANY Thanks lglG God bless LeeRoy Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). RE: [LegacyUG] fnding ancestors
Kathy and Wendy - good response. Lee Roy had contacted me off list and I totally missed that he could have been looking for Dissen, Germany within his own Legacy file. I'm glad you were able to properly read his question!
