The team does their best and I believe that there will be a bug fix on short
notice as there has been in the past.
Perhpas the time for testing was too short for the build before release.

If you think writing bug free software is easy why does a company eg. Microsoft
start the first service pack about 6 months after the first release of a new
version.
Could it be they need the millions of testers around the world to find unknown
bugs.

BTW.
I reinstalled the New Build .147 and have the same problem and don't understand
the fuss as it appears nobody tried New Build .147.

2012-02-18 Thread Ronald Bernier
I really get tired of everyone comparing Millennia, Wholly Genes, Roots Magic,
etc. to Microsoft. Bottom line is, the past couple of updates to Legacy (stay
focused - this is the program we are talking about) has had some very serious
bugs that should never have made it to the general public. It does not matter
if there is one programmer or 1,000 programmers, the fact is Millennia (as well
as the other vendors) needs to improve the level of quality assurance before
releasing a product with such blatant bugs.

Found and fixed are two different things. When some previous problems
have occurred with Legacy releases it was also suggested that more beta
testing was needed. Beta testers then reported on this list that they
had found and reported those problems, but the program was released
without addressing the issues that were reported.

Mike,

Perhaps you should also ask Millennia to stop adding their tag lines to the end
of every email message - those tag lines could also be considered a form of
spam. Is there some unseen force that is mandating you to click on the
advertisements in Lloyds email messages? Your demand is totally ridiculous.
Those tag lines have no effect on the discussion of the Legacy topics.

 Mike,

Juno provides free email accounts as well as paid accounts. In order to
generate revenue from the free accounts they sell ad space in the form of
tag lines. The tag lines may not be information that you or I are
interested in, but they are not spam.

Of course, they are actually no different than someone's personal
taglines which some might not agree with.

I enjoy many of them -

But if you are going after one type of tagline - do you ban them all?

There's a fairly good chance that they will fix them.
There's an even better chance that they'll break some more things in the
process.

posted the suggestions that they should check their revisions out extremely
well before asking us to update – and I certainly agree with that suggestion.

Oh geez! Do you have any dreams at night or are they all in the daytime?
These people are supposed to be experts; they have beta testers; was this a
three martini lunch update?Major database revisions and screw-ups arenot be
easy to fix (certainly not for Legacy, and certainly not without messing
something else up totally). I hope they have not blown their wad on this one!

I firmly believe they are working feverishly on it, even as we discuss it. That
is the admirable thing about Millennia- they *ALWAYS* correct the problems. I
am expecting a corrected version in the next few days- not in the next few
minutes. Let's be fair- it does take some time to correct a problem. Dave and
Ken probably want it fixed faster than we do!

Thank you.

RE: [LegacyUG] New Build .148

2012-02-16 Thread Jack Earnshaw
I've found one issue with upgrading as this version reconfigures the database.

I have Legacy on 2 computers, but all my data is kept on one of them - the
other machine accesses data over my local network.

I upgraded on one machine successfully and my data file was updated to the new
structure. I then attempted to upgrade on the other machine, but was told that
my data file was from a newer version and so I couldn't get far enough into
Legacy to do the upgrade. I had to find another data file to open in order to
complete the task.

It should still be possible to carry out the upgrade from within Legacy even
when no file is open (in a similar way as you can from the Home tab). Maybe
from an option on the internet or help menus.
