Install FREE search utility, "Everything" from https://www.voidtools.com/
To use to find fdb files:1.  Install, choose option to install on Context Menu.
2.  Open Windows Explorer and browse down left side to desired folder (or
higher in tree). 3.  Right click on folder name. 4.  Select "Search Everything"
(red magnifying glass icon) 5.  Type "fdb" after the default line ("C:" fdb
no quotes). 6.  Get instant results. Includes sub folders by default. (So, if
you select a drive letter you see every file on entire drive).
Lots of features, can do mapped drives, not just locals.  Excellent
documentation. Forgot where the Legacy. USR files are?   I did.   Just went to
folder for Drive C aand added usr to follow the * and quickly saw where they
were.   Many more tools: wild cards, sorting, file preview, match case,
files/folders only, RegEx, and much more.
This might sound like I am a rep, but I am just a happy genealogy user sharing
tools.
Good luck

Re: [LegacyUG] .fdb file list

2017-10-31 Thread Cathy Pinner

Pat,
Sorry,
I wasn't answering your query.
Alan tacked onto his response of how you could see and sort the list in
File explorer a query about Legacy file extensions. I was only answering
that.

You want a list of your Legacy fdb files complete with their dates. You
can't get a list to print from inside Legacy.
You need a utility program like the one Martha suggested to do it. I
don't think the one she suggests will quite do what you want without a
lot of manipulating in Excel or Word because it doesn't include a filter
so you can just get *.fdb files.

2017-10-30 Thread Martha Graham

Hi Pat
There is a wonderful little free program that will give you a list.
Here is the download link.
http://www.tucows.com/preview/607345/Directory-List--Print
When you open it up, find the file where you have your Legacy data
stored.

Then to the right of the open window, check the boxes for dates, etc.
the file will be copied to the clipboard
open word, and use ctrl-v to copy it.
