A REAL improvement would be the ability to have events ordered by name first,
and then chronoligically. That is definitely possible in Access, on which
Legacy is still based, but they have not bothered to implement that easy fix.

Roberta,
You would have to do that yourself individually for each person with multiple
marriages.
At the same time you'd have to edit the Marriage Wording for every marriage so
that they made sense.
Currently the default wording for the first marriage is "married" and for the
following marriages is "next married".

You can set your own defaults in Options - Customise 8.7 but they only apply to
new marriages I think. I know the test group has discussed the need for Apply
buttons as well as reset button on the Marriage Information screen.

But think carefully before doing this. I think it would be very confusing.
Almost everything else is Chronological from earliest date to latest date
unless your Events are ordered by Name.

2017-10-06 Thread Brian Kelly
I had a private exchange with Dave N. off the list. He now agrees that
there is no longer a bug in the ordering of spouses in web pages and
reports in the latest update to Legacy 9.0 dated 16 Sep 2017.

He had been comparing the output from a previous version in web pages
created in July 2017 where a second marriage was listed first. When he
ran the same pages in the current version the marriages were listed
correctly in date order with the earlier date listed first.

To do that you will have to manually sort the marriages. There is no
option to sort by dates in descending order to put older marriages after
the current one.

To manually sort use the two arrow buttons in the lower right of the
spouse list.

Go to the Family tab of the individual with the multiple marriages and click on

When looking at the family view of a person who has had multiple marriages:
-click on the marriage icon in his/her section (NOT on the marriage bar)
  - the pop up box is called Spouse List and you will see all of that
person's spouse names, date of marriage and location
-if they are in the wrong order chronologically, then look to the lower
right of that Spouse List box and you will see "Order" and
 the up and down arrows.
-one spouse is already highlight. Just click the arrows up or down to
move to the position you wish so the marriages are in timeline order.
-got more than 2 spouses, highlight by clicking on the next spouse who
is 'out of order' (would life be so simple!!)
-your reports will now print the marriages and kids in the correct order.

Is this what you want?

But the "marriage page" refers to one particular marriage only. It
wouldn't be appropriate to have a reference to multiple marriages there.
Pm the Spouses screen, where multiple partnerships appear - if they

Thanks for clarifying what was not entirely clear in your advice regarding

Then don't do a global sort on Events.

Re: [LegacyUG] problem with marriage sequence

2016-04-21 Thread CE WOOD
But what if you have sorted by category events that have dates?

I have several people whose events are sorted first by category and then by
date within the category. All that painstaking effort would be lost, and worse,
I would not know which people they were!

Each section has its own sort and if you have manually sorted lists
without dates, then there's an option to not sort those lists.

But won't going "to the Tools ribbon and in the Tools section, select the
crossed tools icon and then 'Sort Child, Marriage and Event Lists' to do global
sorts."

Wouldn't that be a disastrous idea if you don't want ALL your child, marriage,
and event lists sorted in chronological order?

Go to the Spouse window and sort the marriages to the proper order.

Or go to the Tools ribbon and in the Tools section, select the crossed

global sorts.
