Re: [LegacyUG] LAT and LONG (PLAC vs ADDR)
From the lack of response can I assume that no action will be taken in this area? Are GEDCOM export bugs not fixed to make it harder to leave Legacy? I don´t know how I didn´t catch one of your posts in the archives. Anyway, I think it´s nice in a way that the ADDR tags have the MAP data because it allows you to use a more granular description of the place if you happen to have more accurate coordinates. But really... I´m just lazy and don´t want to have to enter all those darned addresses by hand :) So exporting them with the PLAC tag makes a lot more sense to me. The GEDCOM 5.5.1 spec seems to imply that is where they belong, at least that´s the way that I read it. L Rutker wrote: Glen, Nice to see that I am not the only one who ran into this issue. RE: [LegacyUG] LAT and LONG (PLAC vs ADDR)
Glen, Nice to see that I am not the only one who ran into this issue. From: Glen Carreras Reply-To: LegacyUserGroup@mail.millenniacorp.com To: LegacyUserGroup@mail.millenniacorp.com Subject: [LegacyUG] LAT and LONG (PLAC vs ADDR) Date: Sun, 28 May 2006 14:05:11 -0400 I searched through the archives for a possible explanation but found none so thought I would give a shot here. My question refers to the way in which Legacy treats LAT and LONG when exporting to a GEDCOM 5.5 file. I have found that when using only the normal PLAC fields, the LAT and LONG are not exported (i.e. the normal place fields used when entering an event.) However, when using the additional address fields, as in using the Add or Edit Address Information blocks, the LAT and LONG data IS exported (although it is exported under the ADDR tag vice under the PLAC tag. Is there any particular reason why Legacy doesn't export that data for the PLAC field but does so only when an additional ADDR field is included? The reason I ask is because it seems to me that this data is useful, with or without the additional address info. I suppose making those additional entries in the address field would be an option for me but, having a few thousand people and several thousand more events in my database, this is not likely to happen in my lifetime. :) It would be really convenient if Legacy exported this data since it is already available via the GeoLocation database. Could this possibly be considered as an enhancement to a future build or version? (It makes possible a really neat feature within PHPGedView which allows one to map events on a webpage utilizing the Googlemap API.) I hope this all made sense :) -- www.noesnada.com Enter the drawing for a FREE Legacy Cruise to Alaska or a FREE research trip to Salt Lake's Family History Library. Open to users of Legacy 6 Deluxe.
