[Bug 160055] New: Installer for LibreOffice 24.2 bug
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160055 Bug ID: 160055 Summary: Installer for LibreOffice 24.2 bug Product: LibreOffice Version: 24.2.1.2 release Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Installation Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: pia...@gmail.com Description: I installed LibreOffice 24.2 over LibreOffice 7.6 today. When the installer ran, it did not close my 7.6 session. I restarted my computer when prompted. After the restart, LibreOffice would not open. I tried from the desktop shortcut, from the Start (Windows 11) menu and from the file linked to the shortcut. I had Task Manager running and LibreOffice never showed in the processes list. I ran the installer again, choosing to repair the install. After the restart, LibreOffice opened correctly (as far as I can tell). Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open an older (7.6?) session and check for updates/click on the update alert. 2. Download the installer file, saving it to the computer. 3. Run the installer without closing the existing LibreOffice session first. 4. Reboot the computer when prompted. 5. Try to open LibreOffice. 6. When this fails, open the installer file from the saved location. 7. Choose the option to repair the installation. 8. Reboot the computer when prompted. 9. Attempt to open LibreOffice. Actual Results: LibreOffice would not start after step 5. After following steps 6-9, LibreOffice seems to start correctly. Expected Results: The installer should have ended the existing session before attempting to install the new version of the software. Reproducible: Didn't try User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: This may have also worked if I had uninstalled LibreOffice and reinstalled from the installer file. Doing it the way I did preserved my settings (at least my recent files showed up when I opened the app). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 151421] New: Installer can't delete Desktop Shortcut
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=151421 Bug ID: 151421 Summary: Installer can't delete Desktop Shortcut Product: LibreOffice Version: 7.3.5.2 release Hardware: All OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Installation Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: bugzil...@cb-computerservice.at Description: [EN] In some situations the Uninstaller is unable to remove the Desktop-Shortcut from the public desktop. The unintall-process runs normally up to the moment when the desktop-icon should be removed and runs backward from that point, because the removal of the icon fails. In the logfile of the uninstaller (see [COMMON – Logfile Exerpt]) that there is no write-access to the public-desktop-folder, but that is not true. The uninstaller runs within the User-Account and is elevated. In this context it is no problem to create or remove files in the public desktop folder (this has been tested to be sure). Therefore, I do not understand, why the uninstaller is unable to remove the desktop-shortcut. The problem does not arise on 100% of uninstallations, but with 7.3.5 it happens extremely often compared to previous LibreOffice versions. When the uninstallation of the old version is unsuccessfully, the installation of the new version also fails. Before I knew, that the reason for the problems is within uninstallation, I created Bug 150995, which very detailed describes the problems with the installation of the new version, when this problem happens before. Even though I marked that bug as „worksforme me – moved“ now, it still contains informations that might be useful. Currently, I work around this issue by deleting the desktop-icon via script before the actual uninstallation. This way, uninstallation of the old version and installation of the new version works flawlessly. Nevertheless, I think this bug should be resolved at root, because it's not impossible that “normal” installations/upgrades might be affected by that problem too. Remark to System-Environment: The “public”-folder on this systems is not on the default path „C:\Users\Puplic“ but on a separate partition. According to the logfile the uninstaller is aware if that and trys to delete the file from the right folder. The ACL’s on the folder and files are ok. Nevertheless, the “non default environment” might factor into the problem somehow. PS: Driveletters and Names in the Logfile are changed for security reasons. The 3rd Party Virus-Scan was OFF during the tests, to make sure it doesn’t interfere with the uninstall-process.

new installer
Hello, i have many friends who are nebies at Libre Office. There are many time confuse when they want install the new Libre Office. They have to use the terminal what is improper for a earlier windows user. So i wrote a piece of code to build an grafic user installer for Linux Mint and Ubuntu. Please check this nice installer. is for free and can be built in a Libre Office pack. Wählen Sie terminal, "run in terminal". With "install.sh" you have access to a graphical installation interface (Zenity) under Linux. Under Mint Cinnamon double-click on file and you will be asked whether you want to open it in terminal or as application. Choose terminal, "run in terminal". With other Ubuntu derivatives, it can happen that the file will not run before it is made executable. To do this, right-click on the "install.sh" file and select "Properties" from the context. At the top in the middle you can see the "Permisions" tab. Click on it and at the very bottom set the checkmark for "make executable". Now the program should start normally with a double click (if set). Should something unexpected happen and still not work, the only thing left to do is right-click on file, copy, open terminal, paste, enter.

Its also too old to download and I haven't found it online (yet). I end up with "ERROR 1714: The older version of LibreOffice 5.2.0.4 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." I realize this looks like an old bug, but it still has teeth. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I set that ticket's title and added some comments as it seemed to apply to me just as much as to the OP. But I was told to open a new one specific to my situation, so that's what I'm doing. As that ticket title was chosen to match my findings, I'm copying it for this new bug. Here are my comments from the other ticket again: bug 93606, comment 23 2015-08-31 22:50:41 UTC I am also experiencing this problem on an US English version of Windows 7. I am not changing the drive letter but the actual name of the installation directory (I want to remove the major version number). Also, I choose not to create a desktop shortcut, this is also ignored. I've first reported this on https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/56644/custom-install-options-ignored-on-windows-7/ with some more details but there were no replies. I've seen this problem on my previous installations of LibreOffice 4 as well. bug 93606, comment 24 2015-08-31 23:18:38 UTC I've now tried the command line suggested in bug 93606, comment 16, with the path changed to what I desire, so this is what I ran: msiexec.exe /i LibreOffice_5.0.1_Win_x64.msi INSTALDIR="C:\Program Files\LibreOffice" TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files\LibreOffice" INSTALLLOCATION"="C:\Program Files\LibreOffice" /L*v installLog.txt However, as soon as I chose "Custom", the wizard came up the default install location "C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 5\". I changed it back to what I wanted (leaving the trailing backslash in place). Then it worked (also the desktop shortcut, but still does not work when I double-click the .msi file. My account has the required rights to perform the installation either way, but I took care to start the command line from an administator's CMD process as requested in the previous comment. bug 93606, comment 25 2015-08-31 23:32:55 UTC I had to jump through the some hoop when installing the help package. Funnily, the dialog did pick up from somewhere that I had installed LibreOffice in "C:\Program Files\LibreOffice" and did show that path to me in the dialog. So I went ahead and clicked to install. I then found that "C:\Program Files\LibreOffice 5" had been created. Uninstalling the help package did not remove that folder either. I removed it manually after uninstalling and then ran msiexec.exe /i LibreOffice_5.0.1_Win_x64_helppack_en-US.msi INSTALDIR="C:\Program Files\LibreOffice" TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files\LibreOffice" INSTALLLOCATION"="C:\Program Files\LibreOffice" /L*v installLog3.txt I now, finally, have a working installation (with help package) in my desired target folder. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

No program should delete files without first obtaining permission from the user. Obviously, if it were being installed over a previous version, it would have to clobber the previous files. Probably this is done to avoid having multiple dll's with the same name lying around. However, I suspect that is probably finessable by de-registering the dll's. If there is really no alternative, then the User should still be warned that files are about to be deleted and asked for confirmation. (In my case, I would copy them to some backup location first.) A related enhancement would be to have multiple functional installations co-existing. This is useful for testing new versions. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 70635] New: Installer ignores options, always puts a shortcut on the desktop
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70635 Priority: medium Bug ID: 70635 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: Installer ignores options, always puts a shortcut on the desktop Severity: major Classification: Unclassified OS: Windows (All) Reporter: fuck.registrat...@mailinator.com Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 4.1.2.3 release Component: Installation Product: LibreOffice The options in the LibreOffice installer just plain don't work! The only thing more frustrating than installers that put a dozen useless shortcuts everywhere (desktop, quickstart, start menu above the programs level, etc) without asking are installers that ask and then disregard my choice. I noticed this when installing 4.1.0, I saw it again with 4.1.1 and now today upgrading to 4.1.2 it happened yet again. Enough! Every single time I uncheck the option for an icon on my desktop. Every single time I find a shortcut for LibreOffice on my desktop after install. STOP IT! Are you assholes just trying to piss me off putting the shortcut there, or are you just too fucking stupid to handle a yes/no option at install time? It must be one of those two, but neither is acceptable. If the former, then you are ignoring user choice and showing total disrespect, which looks bad for the project. If it is the latter, that apparent incompetence doesn't bring much faith in the quality of the software, which again is not good for the project. To think, I'm entrusting the handling of documents to some software written by people perhaps too damn stupid to handle a simple checkbox in the installer. Egads! While I'm at it, the upgrade portion of the installer is crap! If I'm doing an upgrade install then it should be to the same location as the previous version. The installer goes looking for prior versions, but only to delete them. If I have an installation to a non-default path (i.e. perhaps C: is just for OS and apps are installed on D: for easier recovery), then when I do the upgrade the installer defaults not to existing path as it should but instead uses the preset default. If I happen to forget to change that path during install, then instead of a sensible in-place upgrade, the installer deletes everything from the previous path and installs into it's default. Not only doesn't it do the logical thing by default, but it fails to clean up properly. When it deletes the old version, it deletes all files but leaves the directories in place. When doing upgrade installs for minor versions, the default install path should always be the existing installed path, no exceptions. The only case where it makes sense to install to a different path would be when doing a major version change to allow having two versions installed side by side e.g. 3.x and 4.0 so as to allow using 3.x should some critical bug in 4.0 prevent something from working as expected. Worse, not even that scenario works! Back when 4.0 came out, I attempted to install to [path]\LibreOffice4 to keep it separate. Imagine my surprise when the installer finishes and I find that [path]\LibreOffice is an empty folder! There wasn't even a warning the previous version was going to be removed. I am very sure that at this point I do not have any LibreOffice 3.4 process running and I do not have Quickstarter installed at all. Steps to reproduce: 1. Launch LibreOffice 3.5 installer for Windows on the system where a previous installation of LibreOffice 3.4.5 is present. Current behavior: Installation fails and gratiously quits suggesting there is a running LibreOffice 3.4 or Quickstarter, although there are none. Expected behavior: Complete installation, probably removing previous version / migrating user files.
