Looks like a DUP due to reporter's further investigations.

I will check

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42030] New: print preview scaling buttons purpose not visually clear

2011-10-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42030

 Bug #: 42030
Summary: print preview scaling buttons purpose not visually
clear
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO Master
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor

 Component: Spreadsheet

ReportedBy: hunt...@earlham.edu

Created attachment 52567
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=52567
PrintPreview1 with zoom buttons and scaling factor widget circled

In the attached PrintPreview1, I claim that the scaling factor slider
widget (circle (1)) is not visually clear as to it's purpose.

I originally clicked on the buttons expecting the behavior one gets when
clicking the +/- buttons in circle (2). When I did not get the desired visual
appeal, I thought again that maybe I was messing with the margins. It finally
dawned on me what it was doing (see PrintPreview2, but it took me more than a
few seconds to kick myself from my preconceived notions.

I submit that this could/should be made more visually explicit before 3.5.
Unfortunately, I'm not a UI guy or I'd offer a suggestion.

This may apply to other LO components as well, but I was using Calc when I
noted it.

This screenshots were made with master. Last pulled commit:

Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.3 release
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)

Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

 Component: Presentation

ReportedBy: iixama...@gmail.com

LibreOffice Impress crashes when dragging any kind of object (text, image,
group,...) after holding the left mouse button pressed for about a second on
the object (without moving). At that point, the cursor changes and is replaced
by an arrow with a square at the bottom left. Once this has happened, dragging
the object somewhere else causes a segfault.

In my opinion, this is the #1 killer feature that MS PowerPoint has over
Impress. It has not been added in almost four years and it is quite a shame
that nobody finds this important enough.
To highlight the severity of this lacking function, let me point you to the old
open office bug trackers where this bug was filed.

It may be a KDE problem, not a LibreOffice problem after all. I am not expert
enough to tell. However the work around is to use the middle mouse button, not
the left button. I have reproduced some helpful suggestions from this forum:-

http://forums.opensuse.org/forums/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/466691-libreoffice-scroll-bar-freeze.html#post2395431

it has been reported and will be worked, see
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=718357

other work-arounds:

-problem only seen in KDE4, (run gnome, lxde, etc)

-use YaST to remove libreoffice-kde4 package and now the problem is
gone. A shame though that I end up with libre office looking like a mid
90-ies application

-run LO portable 3.4.3 in wine

-use the arrow keys to scroll back and forth

-install the vanilla version from LibreOffice website

Situation: .odt and .doc files correctly, open in LibreOffice Writer. .docx
files on the other hand, despite having the expected LibreOffice Writer icon,
are opened by Archive Manager by default in Ubuntu 11.10.

What I expected to happen: .docx filetype would be associated with LibreOffice
Writer by default and thus be opened by that program.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 37593] File New Template no longer remembers my last open folder

2011-10-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37593

--- Comment #4 from David C. Rankin drankina...@suddenlinkmail.com 2011-10-20
08:13:48 PDT ---
Devs, is there any progress on this bug? I can confirm it is still present in
3.4.3-4 (Arch Linux). I don't know how much trouble this one is to fix, but I
can relate that it is one of the top frustrations in Libre Office right now.

For users like myself that have multiple templates for letterhead, etc., having
to watch my templates disappear right in front of my eyes when LO magically
jumps from the 'My Templates' directory (last used) up to the parent folder
under File - New - Templates and Documents is frustrating. This happens with
every letter I have to write.

I know manpower is always stretched, but if this one could be bumped up a bit
in priority, it would get rid of one of the most visible bugs introduced in 3.4
(or late 3.3). It doesn't seem that difficult to just tell LO to stay with the
'last used' template directory. It has done that for years before this got
introduced.

From a rational standpoint, I don't know of anyone that uses any of the canned
templates provided in LO (or any other office suite for that matter). The only
templates a majority of users ever use are those they have created which get
stored under 'Templates and Documents' - 'My Templates' in LO. That, in my
experience, has always been where OO/LO returned to when the user selects File
- New - Templates and Documents prior to this bug.

Thanks for any help you can give to this bug -- it's one I'm reminded of every
single day.

screen shot of the console presenter extension in Hebrew

Hi,

I'm reporting a problem on behalf of a user.

While viewing a presentation in impress, with the console presenter extension
under the UI in Hebrew, the translation to Hebrew appear backwards (abc
appears as cba). This affects all the text in the extension, including the
titles about the presenter windows, the buttons (prev, next etc...).

I checked the stings in Pootle, and they look OK and in the right direction.

Attached is a screen shot, and a link to the translation in Poole of the string
above the presenter big screen (in English the text is Current Slide
(%CURRENT_SLIDE_NUMBER% of %SLIDE_COUNT%)).

 Hi Russ,

 Thanks for the report.

Recently there was a discussion about the same on the users list.
See subject Calc row limits error around 12-10-2011.

(Cannot acces the archives right now - no idea why, but should be here:
 listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/
 www.mail-archive.com/users@global.libreoffice.org/
  - maybe to slow connection )

Suggestions are for possible errors in formatting.
 e.g.
A missing quote for instance as in:
  http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9t=43731

But then it is something that Calc refuses and koffice / gnumeric don't .
So in any case interesting to examine.

Could you pls have a look at that possibility?
 thanks,
 Cor

Hi Cor: Sorry was so long getting back. Was out of town. I did the following:
 1. Deleted all previous .cvs files.
 2. From Sea Monkey I exported my Personal address book as a .cvs
 3. Opened in Kspread
 4. Say missing contacts were there.
 5. saved a a .csv from kspread
 6. Inported this version to Libreoffice Calc
 7. Missing contacts are there.
 8. Then inported into Kmail. Contacts came in but some of them had a comma in
the zipcode field between the 98,837 should read 98837. This does not appear
to be problem, it appears that field is formatted wrong in Kspread. When I
imported it I got all the contacts, including ones kmail does'nt.

will check on link you provided and post again,

Thanks for your help.

Three times LO Writer crashed when a one-word text selection was dropped after
being dragged in a document (.odt). Also took down a separate spreadsheet open
at the time.

On a fourth attempt, the edit succeeded.

When restarting LO, the dialog box indicated that clicking on Next would lead
to a report function, but that never appeared--the program went straight to the
recovered document.

I have added a scan-button to the unix-select scanner-dialog.
This still needs to be done for windows. Most of the work is done. What needs
to be done:

- add a button to the windows-dialog (extensions/source/scanner/grid.*).
- change extensions/source/scanner/scanwin.cxx so it can handle scanning when
the button is pressed.

You can look to the implementation in the unix-classes how it is done there.
Please remember that the 2nd parameter of configureScannerAndScan isn't always
initialized.

Screenshot showing properly referenced named cells.

You get no error when you name a cell using that method of naming a cell
because it silently averts the error by naming it _AA1 instead of AA1. So
there is only one bug here, that being the failure of Calc to highlight named
cells. The naming process is working as it should, unless you count that silent
error aversion to be a bug.

I am marking this bug as relevant to all architectures because I encounter it
on an x86_64 machine. I am also lowering the importance because all of the
values and calculations will still work properly, the problem is only
aesthetic.

--- Comment #8 from ra...@operamail.com 2011-10-20 14:32:46 PDT ---
I am struggling with this bug as well. Base shouldn't send everything to calc
as text and let calc try to decide for itself what each field is (date, time,
text or float). Base already has this information, there is no need to try to
redetect it, and it's even worse if calc does it wrong because it makes too
much assumptions to make your life easier... The cause seems to be the same
that causes this bug I reported myself:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41577

I can assure you that more than 2 people care about this kind of bug, everybody
here at my company (an engineering company that uses libreoffice and therefore
increases the software's market-share) is losing hair over this.

Just to be clear though, the problem can easily be demonstrated using just the
few templates provided with the standard install. This is not an issue with
custom folders. For example, start a presentation using one of the templates in
the Presentation Backgrounds folder. Then try to make another new document from
any template. The Presentation Backgrounds folder will initially be open, but
the templates in it will not be selectable. After a few moments of inactivity,
the dialog will jump up to the parent folder.

Just tested Nikos 's idea, and as I expected, it works to prevent data like
22.1 being converted autmatically to 22/01/11, but it still doesn't work in my
case because I need that 22.1 to be a number so I can do math with it. With
Nikos's idea I can at best prevent calc from converting things the wrong way
automatically, but I would need still to convert data to numbers AGAIN (it was
numbers in the first place...). And I can't see any whay of doing this
sustainably: I would have to replace the dot with a comma so 22.1 became
22,1 and only then put that string into a =value() formula. It is
complicated, by definition it shouldn't be necessary and if I ever need these
files to be opened by a client/worker in a place where the locale setting uses
dot as decimal separator instead of comma, I would need to change all these
formulas, right? And would need to know which locale setting the person who
will open the file has. Or not? It's just my opinion, but I think the logical
calculations (that have nothing to do with place or locale) in a spreadsheet
should not depend upon the PLACE or the LOCALE where the spreadsheet is being
used in order to work.

Can you test with a development build? It may be x64 specific, but my
immediate hunch is that this is broken recently in the code base.

If someone else can reproduce my lock-up results on Master, then we have two
ends for a git bisection process.

  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED

 Component: Spreadsheet
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: j...@jwdurham.com

Created attachment 52609
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=52609
Example workbook to show error in range references in copy

When copying a sheet with named ranges, the target (copy) sheet should have its
range names adjusted to be relative within the sheet. As things stand now, the
copy's range names all refer to the original sheet, not the copy.

This matter is handled correctly in Excel.

An alternative treatment would be to offer the user a choice of alternatives
for the copy operation. This could be accomplished by allowing the absolute
reference operator ($) to be included or omitted in front of the sheet name.
Right now, it appears to make no difference whether the $ is omitted or
included - you will always get an absolute reference to the original sheet.

The attached workbook is one I made up for use in evaluating alternative
houses. I wanted to have one sheet for each house. Right now, if you copy the
only sheet to make a 2nd one, you get named range references in the second
sheet all referring back to the 1st sheet. Since the 2nd sheet will look very
similar to the first one, this could easily mislead all but the most
sophisticated users.

At present the best workaround I can think of is to use a separate workbook for
each house, which is awkward.

I can think of major problems that this error could cause for finance managers
and others evaluating alternative investments, especially since Excel does it
right.

Unmirrored combo box buttons in rtl ui under ubuntu 11.10

Using ubuntu Oneiric with the Ambiance, its default gtk3 theme, the buttons of
combo boxes are not mirrored when working with an RTL interface.

This is confusing when two combo boxes are adjacent, because the user would
expect to open the combo box to the right of the button but will open instead
the one to its left.

See attached screenshot.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42079] Nonprinting Character Button (Ctrl+f10) not working

Ok.

Tools Options Formatting Aids shows a list of nonprinting characters to
display.

Somehow in toggling the nonprinting character button on and off (while zooming
in and out), the carriage return, tab and space characters were deselected,
without me actually going to the Formatting Aids menu and deselecting them.

Reproducible!
IMHO DUP of Bug 34725 - Color Picker only comes up for visible icons
Very old bug, not a particular Master problem. Also observe it with
LibreOffice Portable 3.3.3 - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO330m19
(Build:301 Tag 3.3.3.1)].

Submenus are accessible, in example you see in screenshot you will have
access to Visible Buttons

@Kevin Hunter
Due to http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport_Details#Version and
especially for problems you observe in Master please always check whether the
problem also exists for earlier versions.

Please feel free to reopen this Bug if you find evidence that we have an
independent issue here.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 34725 ***

@Rainer:

Ah! I had not seen that wiki entry. I did check that this bug had already
been reported, but apparently with less success and not specifically in older
versions. Just a general search. Thank you for spotting it.

There's no need to reopen this bug. Your first comment in Bug 34725 Color
Picker only comes up for visible icons states exactly the issue I was trying
to describe.

@Rainer:

Actually, I've looked a little more in depth at Bug 34725 and I'm do not think
this bug is a duplicate of it. filken specifically talks about the 'foreground
color button' behavior vs the 'background color button' behavior whereas this
bug is about the /change/ in behavior of those buttons when they are hidden in
the overflow () menu. I think filken's attachment
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=47328) describes very well the
problem behavior of Bug 34725.

However, I'll let you decide if this is still a duplicate because your comment
1 in the other bug is the concept I attempted to address with this bug.

in and out), the carriage return, tab and space characters were deselected,
without me actually going to the Formatting Aids menu and deselecting them.

Maybe duplicate of Bug 40482. Check if happens while printing or exporting in
PDF in your case.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42082] New: Make LibreOffice shine and glow on the MacOSX and iOS platform. Or better: outshine other products/platforms.

 Bug #: 42082
Summary: Make LibreOffice shine and glow on the MacOSX and iOS
platform. Or better: outshine other
products/platforms.
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Mac OS X (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: UI
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: sie...@gmx.de

“Create a User Interface so that LibreOffice becomes the users' choice not only
out of need, but also out of desire”

Following and in free support on the credo of the OpenOffice.org Renaissance
project:

OpenOffice.org Wiki: Renaissance

OpenOffice.org Wiki: Renaissance: The Challenge
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Renaissance:The_Challenge

Better OS integration: use more OS/MacOSX/iOS native Cocoa-based core
technologies and frameworks which are diamonds (!) on MacOSX and iOS and which
just have to get picked up. Follow

Apple's User Interface Guidelines
http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/AppleHIGuidelines/Intro/Intro.html

with more passion. Current status concerning that in LibreOffice,
OpenOffice.org and also in NeoOffice (which tries to make the best out of what
OOo and LO deliver but which also has its limits and boundaries in trying to do
so): a woefully no passion at all, at least with more humility and regard to
the platform itself and what it provides.

Headmost and a first step for the beginning: fix those issues addressed in the
inherited and still not fixed OpenOffice Bug 98991
