--- Comment #4 from Rainer Bielefeld libreoff...@bielefeldundbuss.de
2012-08-14 05:58:28 UTC ---
It seems to be a FILESAVE problem.

My test with LibreOffice 3.5.6.2 German UI/Locale [Build-ID:
e0fbe70-5879838-a0745b0-0cd1158-638b327] on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit):

1. opened reporters sample
2. measure unit to inches
3. Menu 'Format - Page': footer off, Bottom Margin 0,5 - 0,02
   (ignore Printer Warning), ok
Result: text until end of sheet, for example
... manner similar to cutting canned tomatoes.
for me on page 2 directly at page bottom
4. Save as Mozzarella Cheese356.doc and close
5. Reopen with MS WORD viewer
Expected: on all pages text more or less until bottom pf paper sheet
Actual: app. 3 text line height blank margin at page bottom

Reproducible with an own document, please see attached simple Mysample.odt:

10. Download sample, start LibO
11. Open Mysample.odt from LibO Start Center file dialog
You see that the lorem ipsum text reaches page bottom
12. Menu 'File - Save as - MysampleLibO.doc (MS WORD 97)
13. Close document
14. Reopen:
Expected: lorem ipsum text reaches page bottom
Actual: Approximately 4 text lines high margin at bottom (visible with
LibO,
MS WORD Viewer

Might be inherited from Latest OOo version, because also reproducible with
AOOo 3.4.

Still [Reproducible] with parallel installation of Master LOdev
3.7.0.0.alpha0+ - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) ENGLISH UI [Build ID: 7d8cd0a]
(tinderbox: 2008R2@20, pull time 2012-08-10 23:27:17), at least with this
version no problem with save as OOXML

Might be that MS WORD only allows pages with footer if header is active but
- I do not believe so
- Problem did not exist with OOo 3.1.1

Does this problem already exist with 3.5.5?
I could not test it, because I haven't Mac. Somebody had changed the Version to
Master old-3.6. Has anybody tested it with this version?

It has been a problem in elder versions of LO. When I test it now with LO 3.6
the wizard for the report-builder ends normally - if static report or dynamic
report.

My System: OpenSuSE Linux 11.4 with LO Version 3.6.1.0+ (Build ID: cd656ac).

Could you please retest it with a newer Version of LO? If it works change the
Status to Resolved and Worksforme

I have not been able to reproduce this consistently. It happens now and then,
probably after a copy / paste action, but I'm not able to produce this problem
deliberately.
I'm still convinced that it must have something to do with my, probably rather
rare, set-up of a computer in one language and a keyboard layout in a different
one.
I'll report if I can figure out anything, but anyway thanks for the inquiry

NOT reproducible with Server Installation of LibreOffice 3.6.1.0+ English
UI/ German Locale [Build-ID: b0aac2a] on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)
{tinderbox: Win-x86@9, pull time 2012-08-11 00:16:39}

My steps:
0. Download Attachment 56260 of Bug 45338 - EDITING ReportBuilder:
'Details - General Keep Together' without visible effect
1. Download Attachment 55911 (test picture)
2. Launch LibO, open DB from LibO Start Center File dialog
3. Open existing Report in Edit mode
4. Click into empty white heading contents area
5. Menu 'Insert - Picture from file - select downloaded picture - open
   Picture appears
6. Menu 'File - Save'
7. close Report Designer
8. Double click report to open report result view
Expected: Writer document with report and picture in heading
   Actual: as expected.

Also NOT reproducible with LibO 3.5.6.2, LibO 3.4.1.1

So might be Mac related?

@Robert:
The Version question is rather academic as long as nobody has reproduced the
problem. Concerning Version please see original report!

@Roman:
It would be great if you could try if Alex confirms that it is still a problem
for him.

@Alex:
Needinfo because your report is pretty old. Still a problem repeating my test?

 @Alex:
Needinfo because your report is pretty old. Still a problem repeating my test?

Oooh, yes, this one slipped off my radar. I'll retest and report back, closing
if it now works OK for me.

Tried it in Portable LibreOffice 3.5.5.3
Build ID: 7122e39-92ed229-498d286-15e43b4-d70da21 on Windows XP without MS
Office installed:

The original unstripped DOCX document has the same problem: All formulae are
replaced in the re-opened ODT with a square showing a Object ## text.

So we can rule out a Linux specific problem with embedded objects.

Works for me (on WinXP 32b) with LibO 3.6.0.4 release
 UI: en-UK
text language: English (UK) / Englisch (New Zealand).

 See attached screenshot
 'fdo#48673_lo-3.6.0.4__ui_en-UK__text_en-UK_en-NZ.png'.

Nevertheless, marked as REOPENED due to attachment 65523 [details].
 Waiting for additional comments...

Is definitely still a problem with 3.6.0.4 release on Win 7 (x64, SP1) with the
GB English installer, though I did run into a separate bug where the
spellcheck didn't work *at all* until I deleted the extensions folder from my
user profile (as per instructions in the release notes), so maybe need to wait
until that issue is resolved?

Hope this helps.

You cited the old documentation. The online help in 3.6.0 says

N
Returns the numeric value of the given parameter. Returns 0 if parameter is
text or FALSE.
If an error occurs the function returns the error value.

Again, the previous behavior was wrong and did not match the OpenFormula
specification or what other spreadsheet software does.

(In reply to comment #0)
I get 10-20 crashes. I don't do anything special, just open documents (writer
and calc), write something, save close. I get all kind of crashes upon
opening, pasting closing or simply changing objects. Note that I have 4
computers, I get these errors on all of them.

Please fill a separate detailed bug report for every reproducible case
according to http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport. We recommend to try
with renamed User Profile (see http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile)
saving the old profile for investigation by a developer.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 53486] New: FORMATTING: Text wobbles with most fonts save for “Times”

2012-08-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53486

 Bug #: 53486
Summary: FORMATTING: Text wobbles with most fonts save for
“Times”
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 3.6.0.4 release
  Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Mac OS X (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: freedesktop@gishpuppy.com

When I use another font than “Times” the text wobbles while I’m typing. This
has been discussed in the forums at:

http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7t=47957
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17t=30553

Apparently, however, it hasn’t been entered as a bug (at least I could find a
report to that effect).

The users who discussed the bugs in the forum made screencasts that convey a
better idea of what’s going wrong:

http://screencast.com/t/MDJkYzgyYTg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvro1dXDeM0

None of the solutions and workarounds suggested in the forums work. These were:
* Turn of support for CTL.
* Turn of Use Printer metrics.

I tested various fonts and could reproduce the wobbling with the following:
Times New Roman, Arial, Alegreya, Bell MT, Big Caslon, Helvetica. At that point
I gave up looking for others. “Times” was the only font that worked for me.

The problem appears to be specific to Mac OS X. It doesn’t occur in NeoOffice.

I don’t know about other people, but to me this is so profoundly annoying that
it renders the LibreOffice Writer unusable to me.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this.

@Alex
Testdocument won't work, because pictures could not be included in the
*.odb-file. I solve this problem by putting pictures into a separate table.

The problem seems to be a Mac-problem - not specific to the OS of Mac. I worked
with pictures in report since OOo 3.1.1 and never had a problem with openening
a report with pictures (png, jpg). It works also in LO 3.3.4 and LO 3.6 under
OpenSuSE 32bit rpm.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Write the text This is a comment.
2. Mark the word comment.
3. Insert a comment (Insert/Comment).
4. Press undo-button in the toolbar (or Edit/Undo).
5. Mark the word comment again. It is not possible to insert a comment

Mark a comment. This works. You can insert a comment now. Press undo-button

Mark the mm-sequence and insert a comment. This works, but the sequence

Confirming on Mac OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) that the Application menu bar
disappears from the top of the screen.

This does not completely prevent the user from interacting with LibreOffice,
the application icon still apppears in the Dock and the application's own
toolbar icons are still functional, but it is a problem nonetheless, e.g. there
is no longer any obvious way to access the extension manager or many of the
functions that are only available via the menu system.

This might be a duplicate of a previously reported problem, I will check.

Hmm, seem to recall that this is a duplicate of an already filed report, but
can't find it right now.

I also can not test to confirm, since I don't have Access on any Windows
computer.

 2) I have seen that the same file, produced with LibO 3.5.* but saved in DOC
format works just fine as an OWA email attachment. It would be nice to receive
a few confirmations on 2, though, to be on the safe side.

I confirm that when send a .xls (or .xlsx) attachment, OWA accept to open the
document. If I use .ods it won't work.

I will also point to comment #13. I have also the feeling there is something
wrong in the meta.xml.

 @Alex
Testdocument won't work, because pictures could not be included in the
*.odb-file. I solve this problem by putting pictures into a separate table.

The problem seems to be a Mac-problem - not specific to the OS of Mac. I
 worked
with pictures in report since OOo 3.1.1 and never had a problem with openening
a report with pictures (png, jpg). It works also in LO 3.3.4 and LO 3.6 under
 OpenSuSE 32bit rpm.

Hi Robert,

Yes, it would indeed appear that this is a Mac only problem, seemingly stemming
from wrong Java thread initialisation by the Pentaho reporter engine on Mac (at
least, for the function required).

Any idea what we still can test?

At the moment, I have no further ideas.
But I've seen (about twice) the missing keyboard shortcuts in previous versions
(in relation with large suggestion lists).

I wonder why I see the old bluegray menu background on your screenshot, 3.6
 normally has greygrey?

These are settings on OS level. :)

When installing on a brand new PC (which never had MS Office installed) all 4
file types show checked (as expected). This possibly means that the LO
installer is checking some registry keys that are NOT removed after MS Office
uninstall. Since currently most systems are provided with some free/limited
version of MS Office, then file association with LO will not happen except for
Visio.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 53491] New: FILEOPEN: Detect special numbers option during text import seems to be backwards?

2012-08-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice

 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal

Created attachment 65544
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=65544
An example TSV file showing the issue with exponential-formatted numbers.

Problem description:
Selection of the detect special numbers seems to work backwards from
documentation
(http://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Text_Import#Detect_special_numbers) and (at
least my) expectations.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open temp.tsv (attached) using scalc
2. Select (or don't select) Detect special numbers on import.

Current behavior:
Detect special numbers selected - 3E is left as text
Detect special numbers unselected - 3E is converted to 3

Expected behavior:
The exact opposite behavior (but with the option still left unselected by
default...I believe this matches Excel's behavior, not that Excel is the
touchstone to meet :) ).

Platform (if different from the browser): CentOS 5.6, x86_64

Other notes: Interestingly, the documentation seems to be incorrect either way
about not interpreting any exponential number...you'll notice that the 2nd item
in temp.tsv (3E2) is interpreted as a number regardless of this option's value.
However, Excel does the same thing, so I actually prefer it that way for
interoperability purposes. In any event, this software is truly great, thanks!
And, as always, I apologize in advance if this is something braindead that I'm
not understanding properly.

In Impress it doesn't seem to be possible to align the printpreview as the
screenshots do indicate. This might come in hand when a representative prints
his presentation and want to store it in a ring binder. When the rings are on
the upper side and the presentation is lined out on the right side, it just
looks unprofessional in my opinion.

Would it be an idea to make alignement possible, so printed presentations look
better in ring binders?

another try at some debugging / fixing

I'm giving up on this; we push/pop the clip region in the PDF stream over the
page. The bug is still there for this specific printer when we print to PDF and
separately print the PDF from acrobat etc. so - clearly there is -something-
wrong in the PDF stream. On the other hand most printers print this, and poplar
/ acroread can render it just fine too ...

Without more technical details on what is wrong with the printer - it's hard to
make progress. To generate those I suggest that you:

* make a minimal document that fails: a tiny (1x1 pixel image), and a single
word of text.
* print this to PDF from all available software: MS word, FooOffice, BaaOffice
etc. until we find one that works.
* de-compress / analyse the command stream in the one that works, and compare
to what we have.

When we have an idea of what is causing the grief, then we can easily fix it I
think.

Sorry - I can't do better than that :-)
