[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 54186] New: : JCL Options from PPD not shown in Print - Properties - Device
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54186 Bug #: 54186 Summary: : JCL Options from PPD not shown in Print - Properties - Device Classification: Unclassified Product: LibreOffice Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Status Whiteboard: BSA Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Libreoffice AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org ReportedBy: b...@chalmers.se Created attachment 66261 -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=66261 Xerox PPD using JCL options JCL Options from PPD does not show in Print - Properties - Device This makes it impossible to use all features on a Xerox 7545, in particular it is not possible to select blackwhite or color at printing. Steps to reproduce: 1. Install a printer in Cups with a PPD that users JCL options (see below) 2. Start Libreoffice, new text document, and type a few characters 3. Go to File - Print and select the printer from (1) 4. Open the 'Properties' tab 5. Open the 'Device' tab 6. Locate the JCL options Current behavior JCL options can not be found Expected result JCL options should be found somewhere Platform: Fedora 17, x86_64 fully updated 20012-08-27 Libreoffice 3.5.6.2-1.fc17 x86_64 Printer: Xerox 7545 with PPD Xerox Global Printer Driver PS3, XRX7675.PPD, http://print.chalmers.se/drivers/tme-i-2345-laser1.ppd as recommended by Xerox This file uses JCL to select color correction mode (color/blackwhite/cmyk/..) for the printer. Snippet from the PPD: *% Color Correction *JCLOpenUI *JCLColorCorrection/Color Correction: PickOne *OrderDependency: 10.7 JCLSetup *JCLColorCorrection *DefaultJCLColorCorrection: Auto *JCLColorCorrection Auto/Automatic: @PJL COMMENT OID_ATT_COLOR_MODE OID_VAL_COLOR_MODE_AUTOMATIC0A *JCLColorCorrection sRGB/sRGB Display: @PJL COMMENT OID_ATT_COLOR_MODE OID_VAL_COLOR_MODE_SRGB_DISPLAY0A *JCLColorCorrection BlackWhite/Black White: @PJL COMMENT OID_ATT_COLOR_MODE OID_VAL_COLOR_MODE_BLACK_WHITE0A *JCLColorCorrection PressMatch/Press Match: @PJL COMMENT OID_ATT_COLOR_MODE OID_VAL_COLOR_MODE_CMYKSimulation0A *JCLColorCorrection None/None: @PJL COMMENT OID_ATT_COLOR_MODE OID_VAL_COLOR_MODE_NONE0A *JCLCloseUI: *JCLColorCorrection End snippet This ppd uses JCL for a lot of other stuff also, but the problem is the same. Background: In order to get a color printout, the generated file (PS or PDF) must be in color, AND the printer must accept to print color. To get a black output the generated file must be black OR the printer must deny printing in color. Easy? Not! Now what happens if an application that is in popular use always outputs in color, resulting in an excessive amount of color printouts, which could have been printed in black at a much lower cost? Then the only way to get black is by forcing the printer to deny color. Most of the printouts should be black, so the good default value for the printer is deny color, and that has to be set in the printer itself. To get color, go into the properties tag at printout, and select color when color printing is needed. This of course is possible only if there is a possibility to change the value. It is possible in many applications. but does not work in Libreoffice! Why? Because on this printer that option is handled by JCL, and Libreoffice ignores JCLoptions in the ppd. Firefox works correctly. What application can be that stupid that it does not give the users a color/black choice? Acrobat Reader om Windows! Remember that the printers are shared between many different OS, applications and users. We need to have consistent default values, and consistent handling of options across all these. As I can see, there is a very limited number of solutions: * Drop Acrobat Reader (And all other Adobe programs) Probably not accepted by the users, but I would like to. * Do not use Xerox printers until the problem is solved (Hello Xerox marketing, we buy 100 printers every year) * Stop using LibreOffice until this bug is corrected. This is a very unpleasant way, but we may be forced take that direction. This is not new. There is an old bug report from 2007-05-02 in the openSUSE Bugzilla. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=270479 OpenOffice ignores PPD options in JCLOpenUI/JCLCloseUI The status is resolved, but I can not find any traces of that in Openoffice/Libreoffice/Apacheoffice. The problem is still in current version, waiting for a resolution. To show that I am not alone having problems with color/black printing, a quote from https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47278 |The pdf export always produces a color-mode pdf, even when the document being |exported is all black text. Using Caption... in the context menu brings up an empty dialog. * As a consequence, foot notes cannot be used in an image caption. That could be considered poor editing style, but I don't think the software should constrain that. Problem description: A 13-page document shows Page 1/13 as the document loads, but then reduces to Page 1/4 after being fully loaded. This is REPRODUCIBLE with LibreOffice 3.6.1.2 (Build ID: e29a214), German langpack installed, on MacOS X 10.6.8 (Intel). But IMHO the main problem is not that pages 5 to 13 (or even 14, on my machine) disappear after opening the document; the main problem is that the complete contents of these pages are missing. And *this* -- all document contents are missing after page 4, point 11a., last line: Designing with Web Standards (3rd Edition), Jeffrey Zeldman and Ethan -- is already REPRODUCIBLE with LibreOffice 3.5.6.2 on the same machine: it shows 14 pages, of course but pages 5 to 14 are blank (and you even can’t reach them with the cursor!), so all contents after the line cited above is missing. Note: as soon as you click into the last visible line cited above, 3.5.6.2 hides the following pages, too, so only the 4 valid pages are left. - Adapted Version and Summary fields. LibreOffice 3.4.6 loads the complete text of the document, or at least more of it, so there is probably an regression involved. - Added keyword regression. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

In my case the font list ends at letter H (Helvetica). So I think that this is neither a problem with the scrolling of contextual menus (scrolling the menu up and down works fine) nor with fonts beginning with D, but * either just with the count of fonts installed on the machine -- the contextual menu then only displays a limited count of entries; this seems probable to me --, * or a special issue with some font which comes after the last displayed font. But I can't confirm this (2nd) possibility, because the next font after Helvetica is Helvetica CY, which should work (there is no problem with Geneva CY earlier in the contextual menu). So most probably just a problem with the count of fonts installed?! In any case, REPRODUCIBLE. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53320 --- Comment #6 from Alex Thurgood ipla...@yahoo.co.uk 2012-08-29 09:54:50 UTC --- ALL: The other workaround, which does not involve fiddling with the security settings, is to right mouse button click on the .app icon and choose Open from the context menu. You will be asked once if you really want to start the program, and then it will launch. There must be some magic flag set in Apple's security subsystem that notes this and then doesn't bother the user afterwards. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52270 --- Comment #1 from Alex Thurgood ipla...@yahoo.co.uk 2012-08-29 10:04:48 UTC --- The problem with this report is that the initial reporter is using software that costs 310 Euros to buy (at least from a quick search on Amazon). How many people use that software on a daily basis ? I'm guessing not many. From a proffessional point of view, I could see the point of investing in something like that, but I doubt that any of the Mac QA testers have this software on their computers, and so the bug will likely forever remain in the unconfirmed state, or else be closed. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 53965] : Character ` is inserted while cycling through the windows on Mac
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53965 --- Comment #4 from Roman Eisele b...@eikota.de 2012-08-29 11:17:13 UTC --- Created attachment 66272 -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=66272 Graphics: Keys to press to cycle through windows on keyboard with Spanish ISO layout Sorry for the long delay! In between I have tried to reproduce the issue on my MacBook Pro, just configuring everything according to your settings reported in comment #2 (MacOS UI language English, keyboard layout Spanish ISO, LibreOffice UI language US English. The only two things I can’t change are * the MacOS X version (10.6.8 in my case) and * my physical (hardware) keyboard which has German layout (this is very similar to Spanish ISO; at least the same number and arrangement of keys, and identical position of all the main keys 'A' to 'Z' and '0' to '9'). My first observation is that, using this configuration, there are two possibilities to cycle through windows: 1) I can press Command + ` (this key is at the top right of the keyboard, right of 'P', left of '+') or 2) I can press Command + '' (this key is at the bottom left, right of the shift key, left of 'Z', below 'A'). Both ways work, but when I press Command + `, an additional ` accent is inserted into the text of the active document, just as you have reported, while, when I press Command + '', everything works fine (windows are exchanged, but no character is inserted into the main text). The latter works with all applications I have tested (LibreOffice, TextEdit, BBEdit, and others). Because a textual description of keys is a bit difficult, I attach a screenshot/graphics which shows a Spanish ISO keyboard layout and the two keys which I can press to cycle through the open windows. Now a simple question: Could you please try if using the second shortcut, i.e. pressing Command + '' (or whatever lable may have that key on your physical keyboard) instead of Command + `, works for you without problems, just like for me? And report the results here, please! [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 43392] Problem with installation of langage pack
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43392 Alex Thurgood ipla...@yahoo.co.uk changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|INVALID | --- Comment #4 from Alex Thurgood ipla...@yahoo.co.uk 2012-08-29 11:50:42 UTC --- Hi Roman, I am re-opening this bug because I've now had two independent reports, one from a French user, and one from a German user, on Mac OSX, where they have been unable to install the language pack, in circumstances which are the same, or extremely similar to those described here. 1) User downloads a recent version of LO for Mac. 2) User downloads a langpack. 3) User installs LO 4) User then attempts to install langpack - the installation freezes or does not complete and the langpack is not installed. The reports I have had have been from users on Mac OSX 10.7 or higher (Lion or Moutain Lion). Both reports state that double-clicking on the .app file does nothing, or appears to do nothing and no error messages are returned. The app file launches an AppleScript, which uses the mdfind utility to look for an existing installation of LO. The problem might lie in the applescript. Apparently, no error messages are seen if the app is launched from the Terminal. I will have a look at the latest langpacks and see whether something might be going wrong with the script (deprecated calls or something like that ??). Note that I haven't as yet been able to reproduce the problem on Mac OSX 10.8. It may well be that the users having problems do not have the correct permissions set on their systems, due to other software installations, or tinkering. These permissions can be reset using the disk utility in the Applications/Utilities folder. As for Lion and Mountain Lion, it may well be that the new permissions system managed by the security settings is preventing the installation from completing...
