[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 58606] New: EDITING: Sporadic inconsistencies in text spacing adjustment
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58606 Priority: medium Bug ID: 58606 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: EDITING: Sporadic inconsistencies in text spacing adjustment Severity: normal Classification: Unclassified OS: Windows (All) Reporter: hastra...@gmail.com Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 4.0.0.0.beta1 Component: Writer Product: LibreOffice Created attachment 71904 -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=71904action=edit Picture spacing error demo document. Instructions included. This problem is a bit general/abstract and I'm not entirely sure of all the conditions under which it occurs, but I find that sometimes LO has trouble moving text to accommodate for changes in spacing. For example, if I have a multiple page document and try to change the font/size or replace character sequences for a large portion of text, the result will sometimes have large inexplicable white spaces between certain lines. Another example is inserting an image; when an image is inserted, it defaults to anchor to page/paragraph. If I then tell it to anchor as a character, any paragraph break following the image will jump over and hang off of it at the end of the line. However, the spacing between the image and the following lines of text will not adjust to compensate for this change in anchor behavior. In both these cases, LO can be 'made aware' of the issue by editing text encompassing the problem space. For the picture example, I can delete the hanging paragraph break and re-enter it, and the spacing will readjust to the proper amount. However, in order to fix the error the user must be aware of the extra space in order to 'poke' at it. In a multiple page document, or in cases like the image one where the error is small, it may be missed by the user as well. Oddly enough, viewing a print preview will SOMETIMES fix these errors. IIRC, this problem was inherited from OpenOffice. You can solve this problem with correct page space height (and removing the extra spaces between the paragraphs). Eg. 12 pt body text and 50 lines need 12 * 1.15 (default factor of the line height in LibreOffice) * 50 = 690 pt = 690/72 = 9.583. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 58611] New: FORMATTING: Failures in style inheritance
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58611 Priority: medium Bug ID: 58611 Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Summary: FORMATTING: Failures in style inheritance Severity: normal Classification: Unclassified OS: Windows (All) Reporter: hastra...@gmail.com Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) Status: UNCONFIRMED Version: 4.0.0.0.beta1 Component: Writer Product: LibreOffice Created attachment 71910 -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=71910action=edit Demo document of faulty inheritance. Instructions included. Most of the time, I try to make my styles as ambiguous as possible, and use inheritance to cover the remaining properties, to facilitate potential future editing. (When editing styles, I use the Organizer tab to see what properties are specifically defined for a style, and use the reset/default/standard button on the appropriate property tab to clear those properties I want inherited.) For instance, if I set the default style font, I can then not adjust the font in any other styles and this property will be inherited by child styles. There are, however, some conditions under which this seems not to work properly. The best example I can think of is line indentation and spacing for headers, though this is by no means the only instance. Regardless of what indentation I select for the parent class 'Heading', I find that all the child classes will default to an indentation of 0cm left, 0cm right, and -0.76cm first line for some unknown reason. In addition, if I specify the values for indentation for the child styles, by association(?) the paragraph spacing values are automatically specified (can't remember if they default to 0cm or the inherited values). This means that I cannot specify indentation without also specifying paragraph spacing. The ultimate effect of these two problems is that I cannot define indentation and spacing for headers using the parent 'Heading' Style and expect them to be inherited; I must also enter in the same values for all the child heading styles. This may or may not be related, but I have found that (font) sizes for character styles will always be based off of 12pt when written as percentages (AFAIK), and are not inherited from the parent (paragraph) style. This is not a v4.0.0.0beta1 regression. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58573 --- Comment #2 from László Németh nem...@numbertext.org --- To simplify this process, I suggest a new behavior in the page setting dialog: checking the register-true check box or modification its reference style could “round” margin heights for the correct (“register-true”) page space size. Using the 12 pt reference style of the previous example, 2-2 cm top and bottom margins of an A4 page (21 cm x 29,70 cm) will be ~0.5mm-0.5mm narrower automatically: ((29.7/2.54)*72 - 12*1.15 * round29.7-2*2)/2.54)*72)/(12*1.15)))/72*2.54 3.8978331 instead of 4 cm. This little modification (1.94-1.94 cm top and bottom margins instead of 2-2cm in this example) will eliminate the big justification problem of the page text and the footnotes and frames anchored to the page text area. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58604 y3kcjd5 hastra...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Version|3.6.4.3 release |4.0.0.0.beta1 --- Comment #5 from y3kcjd5 hastra...@gmail.com --- Fr those unfamiliar with Japanese print: In Asian languages it is common to allow punctuation to hang off the end of a line beyond the normal text borders. In LibreOffice this is enabled by an option called 'Allow hanging punctuation' under the Asian Typography tab of the paragraph formatting dialog. This is normal behavior. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58611 --- Comment #1 from y3kcjd5 hastra...@gmail.com --- To test explain the character styles bug: Open a new document and type some text. Go to the Styles Formatting window and modify the Default Style font size to be 16pt. In the Styles and Formatting window, go to Character Styles (second button above the list of styles) and modify the Emphasis character style font size to be 150% (just type 150% into the font size dropdown). Select the line of text you typed in the document, and set it to the Default Style paragraph style. Then set it to the Emphasis character style. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 39983] [Feature Request] Support Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion) full-screen mode
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39983 --- Comment #22 from Tor Lillqvist tlillqv...@suse.com --- Actually, I think the AOO patch is quite buggy... it uses performSelector:withObject: to call the setCollectionBehavior method. That method takes an integer (NSWindowCollectionBehavior bit mask) as parameter, but it passes performSelector:withObject: an NSNumber object (pointer)... So presumably what actually happens in the AOO code is that the NSNumber pointer is interpreted as the bit mask, and (sometimes? always?) by coincidence it happens to have the right bit on that makes the full-screen decoration to appear. Heh. So, either one should just use objc_msgSend() as in my patch to be on a lower level, or the verbose NSInvocation API. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 46736] RFE: Add warning about Macros: Macro won't be saved for .xls and other formats and will be lost
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46736 --- Comment #10 from Roman Eisele b...@eikota.de --- This first needs UX input. IMHO we have already the warning that export to XLS will loose information so this needs a clever UX concept to not overload the user with warning dialogs. A good point! I have to agree, it would be really bad user experience to show two or more alerts to the user when saving a file. The only possible solution I can think of (and which I probably had in mind when recommending this enhancement request) would be just to modify the message of the general warning about data lass in non-ODF file formats. So, instead of just saying, as now (3.6.4): This document may contain formatting or content that cannot be saved in the currently selected file format Use the default ODF file format to be sure that the document is saved correctly. we could add some some more specific hints, in this case: This document may contain formatting or content that cannot be saved in the currently selected file format Especially: • All macros will be lost, because macros are not supported by the ... file format. This hint should appear only if the current document actually contains some macros, of course. IMHO one could add about 2 or 3 of such special hints without overloading the dialog window. But this is just a sketch of what I had in mind; you are right that discussion in and advise by the UX team would be the way to proceed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

Thank you for your hint! But AFAIK this movement of all remaining important bugs from the 3.5 MAB list to the 3.6 MAB list is already on its way; especially Rainer Bielefeld has already judged and moved many bugs, and others (including myself) have done similar things. It will just take some time to complete this task, because (a) it should be done carefully, (b) probably by experienced bug wranglers, and (c) most of our QA volunteers are occupied with testing the upcoming version 4.0.0; which is a much more urgent task right now ... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 58611] FORMATTING: Failures in style inheritance
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58611 Joren De Cuyper joren.libreoff...@telenet.be changed: What|Removed |Added Hardware|x86-64 (AMD64) |All OS|Windows (All) |All Status|UNCONFIRMED |NEW Version|4.0.0.0.beta1 |3.6.4.3 release Ever confirmed|0 |1 --- Comment #2 from Joren De Cuyper joren.libreoff...@telenet.be --- This is a DUPLICATE of bug 54627 Most of the time, I try to make my styles as ambiguous as possible, and use inheritance to cover the remaining properties, to facilitate potential future editing. This is a NEW bug This may or may not be related, but I have found that (font) sizes for character styles will always be based off of 12pt when written as percentages (AFAIK), and are not inherited from the parent (paragraph) style. This is not a v4.0.0.0beta1 regression. Win7x64Ult. I can reproduce under Ubuntu 12.10 and Mac OSX 10.8.2; LibreOffice 3.6.4.3 as well as LibreOffice 4.0.0.0b1.
