[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60400] New: Navigator Should Highlight the Heading under which the Cursor is Located

2013-02-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60400

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 60400
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Navigator Should Highlight the Heading under which the
Cursor is Located
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: kumara.bhik...@gmail.com
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.6.5.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

I really wish that the Navigator be more useful with long documents with
headings.

Presently when I turn it on, Headings is highlighted. It would a more useful
and intuitive to have it automatically highlight the heading under which the
cursor is located--much like what PDF readers do. Agree?

As the cursor is moved, so should the position of the highlighting on the
Navigator, as PDF readers do.

Having the Navigator in this way would make it much easier for the user to
*navigate* around the document.

Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.0.0.3 rc

Problem description: Bug with the function negativ number in red

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a new document, in a cell write =5-9 so the result is negatif (-4)
[It is working with all the negativ number of course]
2. Format the cell and active the option negativ number in red - the color of
the result is now red
3. Save the document and re-open it
4. The result is still negativ but he is in black (the option negativ number
in red is active).
Info 1. If a change is made that effect one result in the document, the results
come back to red in this document.

Hi Joren

Installing the latest version did indeed cure the problem. Many thanks for
your quick response. (I had such an old version because I use the Red Hat
clone CentOS, and, typically for them, that was the latest version they had in
their repositories.)

Print screen of Language settings and Format cells

Problem description:
Pasting a number with two dots (thousand and million separator) are pasted as
text (dots preserved after pasting into Calc cell).

Steps to reproduce:
1. First of all I have renamed the profile C:\Documents and
Settings\[user]\Application Data\LibreOffice\3 to C:\Documents and
Settings\[user]\Application Data\LibreOffice\3_old to make sure this is not a
profile problem.

2. Check the Tools | Options | Language Settings | Languages. My settings are
Slovenian (see attached file for details). In my local settings dots . are
used for thousand, million, billion etc separator and comma , is used for
decimal separator.

3. Becuase of default profile all of the cells are by default formated as
numbers (menu Format | Cells | Numbers tab | Category = Number.

4. Now copy the following numbers into Calc (paste into cell A1):
1.000
1.000,00
1.000.000
1.000.000,00
1.000.000.000
1.000.000.000,00
1.000.000.000.000
1.000.000.000.000,00

Note: All of the pasted numbers are correctly pasted. No problem.

4. Now copy numbers from step 3 one by one, each number in new cell.
Note: All of the numbers are pasted as numbers, except for the number
1.000.000. In Input line there is obvious dots are preserved in cell after
pasting.

I have also tested the number 1.234.567 and the same problem.

Current behavior:
Any number with two dots does not paste correctly.

Expected behavior:
Number with two dots (thousand and million separator) should paste as numbers.

P.S. See print screen of my Tools | Options | Language Settings | Languages and
Format | Cells.

I can neither confirm nor deny doing a partial package upgrade as you
suggested. I may have aborted a yum update for some reason - can't remember if
I did it in the same login session. However, as I sometimes stay logged in for
for over 10 or more days, it is quite possible!

But note that I had had no problems with LO-3.6.5 and earlier.

$ pkill -9 -f soffice.bin
$ cd /opt/libreoffice4.0/program
$ ./soffice -writer
Warning: -writer is deprecated. Use --writer instead.
$
$ ./soffice -writer
Warning: -writer is deprecated. Use --writer instead.
$ ./soffice --writer
$

Hmm... All 3 times, the LO-4.0.0 instance vanished after a few seconds!
(just confirmed that using '-writer' vs '--writer' makes no apparent
difference)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60409] New: Event triggered incorrectly on BASE listbox

2013-02-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60409

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 60409
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Event triggered incorrectly on BASE listbox
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: t...@tim-passingham.co.uk
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 3.6.4.3 release
 Component: UI
   Product: LibreOffice

I have a listbox in a control in a grid on a form in BASE.

I assigned a Basic macro to the event for 'Mouse moved while key pressed'.

This triggers correctly, but it also triggers if you use the mouse to scroll
the sidebar up and down, even when no key is pressed. This is surely
incorrect.

To explain briefly what I am trying to do, I want to open a form containing
details of the data in the listbox, and this event is a neat, tidy and
user-friendly way to do it, provided it works reliably and doesn't trigger when
I don't want it to.

I tried checking for a mouse double-click instead but could get that to work
reliably.

I don't want to use a separate button to open the form, not least because on
some forms I have several listboxes in the grid and don't want to have loads of
buttons arrayed above the grid.

For now I will stick with it and try to remember not to use the sidebar. In
fact, if there was an option not to have a sidebar but just a mouse scroll
(which I have turned on) I'd be happy with that.

If I select the image toolbar it is show... but when I close writer and I open
it again, it doesn't remember thouse toolbars and force me again to open them
this is annoying because if I normally work with pictures in the document, it
is forcing me to open the toolbar everytime I open writer, which is a royal
pain.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to Writer and open some toolbars, for example 3d settings and the image
toolbar
2. Close Writer
3. Open Writer, you'll see the toolbar is not remembered and force you to
configure again the toolbar to be shown

Current behavior:
Writer don't remember the toolbars I've selected to be shown

Expected behavior:
When I tell Writer to show a toolbar is because I like that toolbar and I
expect Writer show it, and when it close, remember that toolbar to be shown
next time
if I configure something is because I want that stay in that way and remember
the configuration, that is the normal thing... but writer don't remember the
configuration of the toolbars and even if you want to show them, it doesn't
remember the toolbars you want to be shown next time

While some icons are easy to distinguish, some are not, and it would be helpful
if there were labels next to those icons.

The ability to show labels next to certain icons is missing, and, in order to
progress with the usability of the suite, it would be helpful if it was added.

And gzip / attach the output of /tmp/slog ? :-)

 - Create empty writer file.
 - Insert header
 - Insert picture (jpg or png) in the header.
 - Save the file in word 97 format (.doc)
 - Open this file in MS Office 2011 (yes, on mac)

The image in header is invisible but still selectable. In Word 2011 if you
change the transparency of the picture value then reset it to zero, the image
re-appear.

This doesn't occur if the image is in the footer or the body.
This doesn't occur if the file is saved as .docx
I have not been able to reproduce with word 2003 on Win XP.

It would be useful if LibreOffice could have a responsive layout.

An initial implementation could be determining the icon size based on the
window width. Additional tweaks could include distributing space evenly across
toolbars on the same row and expanding onto a second row if there's not enough
space for the toolbar.

Reasoning: Same as with websites. Large icons make sense with a large window
size, as the cursor has more distance to travel and larger icons make better
targets, or on a tablet. However, with smaller window sizes, small icons are
needed to keep commands on screen and afford more space to the document.

Pasting directly from a Google Image search causes Libre Office Writer to
crash/hang.

Reproduce:

Search Google for image.
Copy the image from the grid (don't click on the image to load it)
Paste into Writer.

Libre Office will hang.

If you click on the image, and copy the enlarged version, it pastes fine. If
you copy the thumbnail image in Impress, it pastes fine.

(Testing in FF 18.0.2 on Ubuntu 12.04.2)

I already have an avatar picture uploaded, so I tried uploading a new picture.

Trying to re-upload the same picture I originally uploaded (421KB JPEG), I get
the following:

---
You haven't uploaded an avatar yet. Please upload one now.

Upload a valid image. The file you uploaded was either not an image or a
corrupted image.
---

There are two problems here

1. I *have* uploaded an avatar image, so the system is confused/wrong.

2. The image is valid (it was uploaded previously and is in use on my profile
right now)

Trying with a 4MB PNG file, I get the same error as with the JPG.

Trying with a 2MB GIF file, I get a different error:

---
Your file is too big (2.0 MB), the maximum allowed size is 1.0 MB
---

(Not sure why the 4MB PNG file didn't trigger that error)

Trying with a 513.4KB GIF file, I get the following:

---
Internal server error
system error log is recorded, error will be fixed as soon as possible
please report the error to the site administrators if you wish

What a selected page might look like

Allow users to select a page by clicking in its margins, on its border, or on
its shadow. Selecting a page would show a Page toolbar containing commands
related to the page (Style, Format, etc.) in place of the Formatting toolbar.
Deselecting a page would involve clicking within a page or clicking outside its
shadow.

Reasoning: The idea is to allow users to discover page-related formatting
options (natural mapping) and change them efficiently, without having to wade
through the Page formatting dialog. It would also reduce the need to go through
the menubar and eliminate the need to have the page style shown in the status
bar.

(In reply to comment #2)
in a sheet where one has more columns each with a header (a specific cell
used for naming the column), do the following:

Oh ok, thanks for this explanation :-). I can confirm this, using LibreOffice
4.0.0.3 rc3 with Linux Mint 14 x64.

The action itself is OK (everything is sorted OK), but any sign (or colour
change) is missing which column is/was sorted.

Because this is more an enhancement request and not 'bad behavior'. I mark this
as an enhancement request and set status to NEW.

Example of a big document

We’re using LibreOffice (since v2.x up to 4.0 beta) inside our product
LetterSketch, which was started 7 years ago.
LetterSketch is a document authoring tool with which authors can create
documents and extend it with conditions, loops, variables, sub documents and
other ornaments.
Finally this template gets compiled to an internal format and finally it can be
generated on a server in high volume by feeding it data in XML format.
Now we got our biggest implementation up to date, a major European bank. And
they need to create pretty complex document structures, containing multiple
sub-documents.
And here we reached the limits of the OpenDocument format, or at least the
LibreOffice/OpenOffice internal object representation.

At the customer we created a template/document containing 113 pages, built up
with plain text, various objects like comments and frames, and dozens of
sub-documents and where it takes some 10-20 minutes to just open the template.

We finally pinpointed the problem.
When we just take the top-level odt file, without resolving any of the
sub-documents, LibreOffice needs 1 minute at 100% CPU(intel i5 CPU) and 500 MB
of memory (!!!) for this document alone.
So when we also start resolving the sub-documents, LibreOffice goes up to 1.8
GB of memory and then just crashes or disappears or freezes, there seems to be
some kind of invisible ceiling.
Closing the document takes another 1-2 minutes and some additional memory is
needed!
When saving the main document to the Word (.doc) format and then opening it in
Word, MS Word only needs some 30 MB of memory to visualize this SAME document.
Please find attached the concerning (main) document.

Is there any kind of suggestion you can give us to overcome this
problem/limitation, since this is going to be a major showstopper for our
project.
Thank you very much for your suggestions.

--- Comment #3 from Rainer Bielefeld libreoff...@bielefeldundbuss.de ---
I see the effect in the secreenshots.
Scroll bar width is very small
== Scroll buttons are very small (square)
== Sheet Tab height (what is related to Scroll bar width ) is too small
  for readable name text

I don't think that this one is NEW due to
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugTriage#Set_Status_.26_Prioritize:

a) I doubt that all LibO Distributions are affected, we already would have had
a report.
b) Has that ever been confirmed on a second PC?
c) With what version did that really start?

@ROB:
Did you also see that with your LibO?

@mazelm:
Please contribute details concerning your OS!

I agree, a bar should be a real bar with borders around.

I doubt that this is a request for all OS, Attachment 72112 for Bug 58748
shows borders and seems to be taken from LibO 3.6 or LibO 4. Or did I
misunderstand the report?

interesting, it seems that the position and size seem to be corrupted/changed,
it is possible though workaround the problem bet resetting again the window
possize

like

  oWindow.setVisible(True)
  flags = com.sun.star.awt.PosSize.POSSIZE
  oWindow.setPosSize( 150,150,200,200, flags)

don't know why this doesn't happen on linux ( maybe it actually does but just
not as badly ) or even when the size/pos is changed. I will try to find out, I
will take this bug for a while and see if I can get further, if not I will push

2013-02-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57061

--- Comment #38 from harald-koes...@htp-tel.de ---
Hence there is the risk that users lose parts of their user profile, IMHO users
should be at least informed that

(1) there may be problems with the migration of the user profile from Version
3.6.x to 4.0.0,

(2) it is recommended to backup the user profile of the 3.6.x version, in order
to be able to recover the user profile or parts of it in case of a data loss.

To my opinion the release notes website page would be a reasonable place for
this information.

Additional info: At the German discuss mailing list a user reported that his
AutoCorrect and AutoText data are lost in both (/3 and /4) profiles while
installing 4.0.0.3. Hence he made a backup of his profile he could recover his
data. In the moment I believe that this not a general problem. I asked the user
to reproduce this behaviour.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting.

I CAN'T reproduce that you need to wait several minutes to open the document. I
opened the document on a i5 @2.8GHz within 10 seconds. Also I can't see any
memory leakage when this document is opened.
But I CAN reproduce the high memory load (+500 MB) and scrolling through the
document result sometimes in a short freeze (1 second). It also needs 5 to 6
seconds to close ... I think that's not that bad.

Tested using Linux Mint 14 x64 and LibreOffice 4.0.0.3 rc3.

Following [1] this is not a blocker. Because this results in a tedious slow
behavior, I mark this as 'Major High'.

Kind regards,
Joren

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60345] sumif formula wildcard in text criteria fails to match, returns 0 instead of total. Big error.

2013-02-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60345

--- Comment #8 from Tim Richardson t...@tim-richardson.net ---
God,
how I wished I had never mentioned regex.
[I'm a H1-average Computer Science graduate and I know what a regex is. Not
Software Engineering, but Computer Science. We did the 1930s theory of regular
exprssion language. I love that OO/LO uses regex. I also appreciate that for
compatability, I can turn it off. However, this is an instance when it is in my
opinion broken]

Excel does not do regex,we all know that. But for the database functions, it
supports wildcard matching.

In the OpenFormula standards, you will see that the database functions, such as
SUMIF, accept a criteria.

https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/16826/openformula-spec-20060221.html#Criteria

Unfortunately, exactly what a criteria is is not well defined.
As comments to the standard show me, there are two families of criteria.
One is regex, and one, which 95% of the world uses, is the Excel family,
referred to as the wildcard family.

see https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/office/201003/msg00434.html
which quotes someone as saying Need to clearly note that
table:use-regular-expressions and table:use-wildcards are mutually exclusive
(at most one can be true).

Now, if regex is turned off in Libre Office preferences, you may think that
use-wildcards is activated. This at least is my expectation.

So why does it not work in SUMIF?

I've done regression testing and this is not a new problem in OO/LO. However,
I still think it is a bug since for all intents and purposes Excel is a
reference implementation of the definition of criteria.

I'd love for someone to answer my question without referring to regular
expressions (god bless them).

I have just modified many settings in Tools/Options/LibreOffice Calc with

I also tried to do some changes in toolbard and they were not migrated = we

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60418] FILEOPEN and EDITING particular .odt with excessive lots of Comments causes heavy CPU and memory load

--- Comment #4 from Rainer Bielefeld libreoff...@bielefeldundbuss.de ---
Currently my suspect is that it might have to do with the lots of lots of
Comments in the document. AOOo 3.4.1 seems a little faster for FILEOPEN, but
has similar problems, I think that never worked better.
Especially to delete Comments is very difficult

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60419] Big documents, containing a big content.xml consumes lots of memory and CPU and might even freeze

2013-02-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60419

--- Comment #3 from GiorgioMigliaccio giorgio.migliac...@lettergen.com ---
(In reply to comment #2)
My experience since version 3.5 with LO being slow and crashing seems to be
when headers footers are enabled. You may want to try disabling them and
see if that has any affect on the document. If so it may be a duplicate of
 bug 59714.

At our customer we've created literally thousands of documents. Most of them
contain a header and/or a footer. But every document is a 'fragment', meaning
it is or can be a sub-document of another document, and is inserted into this
document as a section.
So, we can have some 5 to 10 level-deep sub-documents, and one top-level
document easily can contain dozens or more of such sub-documents/sections.
So we gradually build more and more top-level documents containing more content
(documents). Now we've come to the situation, a certain threshold, that the
main-document contains too many objects that it has become too big to be
processed well by LO. We've tried several versions of LibreOffice, we started
with 3.5.4, went to 3.6.x and I tried it with 4.0 beta, and eventually tried
it with 3.4.5.
This last version (3.4.5) was chosen because I read in a LO bug-report that
since 3.5.x there were memory problems with having many images inside a
document.
So switching to 3.4.5 did indeed help a bit. A document which was unable to be
opened with other versions of LO finally did open (using 1.8 GB of memory), but
it was unworkable. Right-clicking to perform any action froze the UI.
So I think it mainly has to do with the size of the document. For example,
loading the 16 MB content.xml file into Liquid XML Studio needs 1.1 GB of
memory... and opening it in notepad++ didn't even succeed, it just froze.
Ok, this is another application, but I think it mainly comes down to the same
problem : too much XML for an XML-processor.

@Giorgio Migliaccio: Please comment, why it is not ODF conform
If there is no 100% ODF compitable ODF testfile I am going to close it as
 NOTOURBUG

@Rainer: I did the testing both on Win 7 (BTW It is in the description)

 In my case: Win7 x64

the original reporter is in CC
It is just about the loading speed
I don't know how this is created -- If creation is not done by us --
 NOTOURBUG, is it?

So, this should be all information I have...

PS: Could you please link to the ODF validator used...

We've created the documents with LibreOffice 3.5.4 but, for integrating it into
our own solution, we needed to extend the file with some of our own attributes
which will contain a guid/key.
So those attributes on your elements are the only thing that's added by us and
is not according specs, but shouldn't be the reason why these documents are
behaving as they are in LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org.
The tests were run on Windows 7 32 and 64-bit and 4 GB of RAM with LibreOffice
versions 3.4.5, 3.5.4, 3.5.5, 3.6.x and 4.0 beta. All gave the same results,
were 3.4.5 gave slightly better results with our full-blown resolved document,
containing all the sub-documents.

Marking this as Easy Hack.
The code where the tooltip is created can be seen in this OpenOffice commit:
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revisionrevision=1419993

Then, instead of depending on a configuration setting, we need to get the
information whether the mouse wheel is used or not.

Citing Cedric:
The ScollbarHdl doesn't tell you how this has been triggered. I think
you'll have to have a look at the ScrollBar vcl control to add that
information... Some debugging may also help to see the difference
between scrolling with the wheel or by dragging the lift.

This is the VCL Scrollbar Control:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 54651] PIVOTTABLE time-format gone

--- Comment #9 from ktos.obcy+freedesk...@gazeta.pl ---
OK, mea culpa.

As expected same is happening in 4.0.0 final.

I've been playing with it for a bit and it seems that the issue is related to
the output of the function being /empty/ - i.e. double quotes (to have blank
field - it seems that then Cals ignores source formatting and assumes the
input/output to be plain numeric/text determining pivot table formatting) and
also from the fact that (as it seems) formatting of the whole pivot table is
taken from last row of the input table selection. I'm going to attach simple
testcase sheet. In that testcase if you remove start/end time from last row and
refresh pivot table then the issue manifest itself.

for the moment I've fixed my initial sheet by replacing conditional function:
=IF(F278-E2780;F278-E278;)
with simple /0/ (also, using =IF(F278-E2780;F278-E278;0) would work) as then
times are displayed on in whole pivot table.

formatting of the pivot table is determined by the last row content

removing start/end from last row thus causing IF function to output blank (i.e.
double quote - ) causes pivot table to assume that the whole column is text
forcing different formatting

When the page is showed to screen, LibO become very slow.

The bug comes from the image.
The original file format of image was a png.

The workaround is to extract image from document (right click save image) and
reimport it in place.

This happen on MacOS 10.5 and 10.7 with Libreoffice 3.6.5.2 and LibreOffice 4.0

Still able to reproduce the bug with 4.0.0.2rc. I personally think it's not
such a minor issue. I process CSV files with my scripts, now I have to search
and replace those damn tabs to commas because LibreOffice messed up my files.

Instead of a workaround I would prefer a fix. It's a shame such a simple file
format cannot be handled correctly with LibreOffice.

P.S.: why tabs?? it is called a *comma* separated values file for a reason. Why
is the default separator set to tab when saving CSV? It really puzzles me.

It should be quite common that users are installing a new LibreOffice version
to replace an existing one and not in order to use them side by side. However,
the Windows installer doesn't offer any visual hint on how to upgrade. You have
to manually select the folder of the existing installation and hope for the
best.

It shouldn't be hard to add an option to switch between upgrade existing
installation and install side by side to existing installation.

Another element in this game is the default installation folder. It should be
LibreOffice from my perspective, not LibreOffice vX.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60427] New: Missing ZWNJ support for German ligature handling

2013-02-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60427

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 60427

Summary: Missing ZWNJ support for German ligature handling
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: nem...@numbertext.org
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.1.0.0.alpha0+ Master
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 74360
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=74360action=edit
Test file with plain fi replacement, and without it using ZWNJ, ZWJ and ZWS

German typography could use zero width non-joiner (ZWNJ) characters to fix the
automatic ligature handling of OpenType or Graphite fonts, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-width_non-joiner.

LibreOffice has limited support for this feature, also there are problems with
text search and spell checking, too, see the attached test file and screenshot.
(It uses Linux Libertine G with automatic ligature replacement.)

Workaround for ligature handling:
– try zero-width space (U-200B) instead of ZWNJ or
– use the font specific ligature settings (eg. Linux Libertine G:liga=0
special font name) for the full word (or word part to keep ligatures in the
other word parts)

Workaround for spell checking:
Specify ZWNJ with IGNORE feature of Hunspell in the affix file (it works with
UTF-8 encoded Hunspell dictionaries):

IGNORE U-200C

where U-200C is the UTF-8 encoded U-200C ZWNJ

Plans:
LibreOffice/Hunspell:
– remove ZWNJ automatically for 8-bit encoded dictionaries
– add IGNORE ZWNJ to UTF-8 encoded dictionaries (English, Hungarian)

Linux Libertine G, Biolinum G:
– add/fix ZWNJ letter to avoid bad kerning (see screenshot)
– use short f for f + ZWNJ
– maybe it is better to remove the default ligature replacement for German (it
is possible to set in the Graphite font)

@Rainer : this document indeed contains a lot of frames. We mark ranges of text
which are conditional or need to be looped with a start 'tag' and end 'tag',
which are put physically in the document using frames, and also variables are
put there using frames which get a specific attribute and guid so we can link
it to our own objectmodel which specifies some additional info for these
ranges. We've tried and investigated all LibreOffice (or OpenOffice.org) had to
offer us at the time we started and this came out being the most flexible
solution.
Trying to delete a comment for user x just crashes LibreOffice 4.0.0.2.
I'll try to remove them from the xml, manually, and see if this improves the
document speed and memory usage in LO.
