[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 60793] Application hangs for up to 10 min after loading first document
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60793 --- Comment #2 from jackvd2...@gmail.com --- Hi Michael, I fully agree with you :-) But... Since I was having trouble with another application too (TraderWorkStation) I assumed that there must be a correlation. Eventually I pinned it down to a possible Java problem. Searching for Java performance problems on OSX finally got me to the solution As it turned out, a frequently used anti-virus tool on OSX named Sophos was the 'bad' guy. Within Sophos there is an option called 'Scan inside archives and compressed files' in the 'on-access' scanner.. This causes the entire Java runtime environment to be checked on startup! This indeed can take up to 10 minutes before it is done and the runtime gets loaded into memory. Not 'ticking' that option makes the system more vulnerable for infections, but makes the startup delays disappear. For my trading application this made a lot of sense, since it is a Java application. For Writer, this was not that obvious since I was not aware that it actually loads Java code during the opening of a document. What saved me was the marketing machine of Oracle :-) While experimenting with Java, I replaced the Apple runtime with the native Oracle one. And every time the Java runtime gets started, a popup window appears telling me how good Oracle Java really is :-). This is how I discovered that Writer indeed calls the Java environment after loading a document. Hopefully this will help other people too, because I did see more issues around loading delays on OSX. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56707 --- Comment #19 from Julien Nabet serval2...@yahoo.fr --- Ant: I noticed some .bak in your list, it could be interesting you remove/put it aside and test again. I don't think that's the solution but at least, it's quick and easy to test. Give a try to 4.0.1, you may be lucky! :-) Then I propose you several steps: 1) do the same list (alphabetical would be sufficient) on the Windows machine OK 2) compare the 2 alphabetical lists and put aside every font in KO machine in order to have no font which would be present in machine KO and which wouldn't present in machine OK. Perhaps in Algo it would be clearer: foreach font in machineKO if font.exists(machineKO) and (!font.exists(machineOK)) machineKO.putaside_or_remove(font) 3) try to reproduce the crash 2 possibilities: a) you still reproduce the problem = it's not a font problem (or I missed something :-)) b) you don't reproduce the problem = at least 1 font triggers the problem Search it/them with dichotomic method (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_search_algorithm) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

I was probing around the LO options to find how to change the ruler units, and when I came across the integrated Java in LO, I disabled it. I removed all Java from my computer a few months ago due to too many vulnerabilities and instability issues popping up all the time. I didn't realize LO had Java integrated. Disabling Java in LO fixed the problem. The Send menu shows up correctly now. Thank you for your feedback. Java isn't integrated in LibreOffice. When you launch for the first time, it tries to detect Java installed. What's your precise Java version? Do you reproduce the problem if you enable again Java? This service runs on a Windows Server 2008R2 64-bit and is intended to batch-convert sets of ODTs to DOC format at the customer. The service opens the odt, saves to doc and closes the odt, in that order. The test we did was sending 1000 odt's to the service, so every LO instance gets 250 documents to convert. The handle count for every LO instance goes up to over 6000, and it never gets down anymore. If we send more odt's, LibreOffice handles keep on rising until windows shuts down the initiating Java code (Red Hat BRMS server!). So LO leaks handles, up to 6000 for just 250 files, over 25000 for 1000 files, which is very critical. The only solution we have now is to restart LibreOffice every once in a while, but this comes with a huge slow-down in processing. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61993 --- Comment #4 from Luke l...@deller.id.au --- Correction, the LibreOffice formula (from code) is: 77*red + 151*green + 28*blue = 38*256 I notice that both Word and LibreOffice formulae use weights proportional to the Rec. 601 coefficients for Luma shown here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luma_%28video%29 ie Luma = 0.299 R' + 0.587 G' + 0.114 B' (Actually LibreOffice would match these coefficients more accurately if it used 76*red + 151*green + 29*blue) Anyway the main difference is that LibreOffice considers Luma = 38 (out of 255) to be dark, whereas Word considers Luma about 61 (out of 255) to be dark. The formula I put forward earlier for Word is very slightly off, because of the following data points: (red=61, green=61, blue=60) is not dark (red=60, green=61, blue=61) is dark -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 32771] Writer crashes while exporting big PDF file. (Error message: Der Wecker klingelt :-))
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32771 --- Comment #27 from David genericinet+libreoffice@gmail.com --- Producing a document that will cause it to crash will be difficult to do. If there is a file that will always cause it to crash it's been my experience that something is wrong with the file. Like once I had a document where something strange had happened to the paragraph settings. Clearing all formatting and resetting it to use the defaults of the paragraph style it was set for fixed the problem. In the case of this bug though, it is a matter that seems to be more affected by large documents. It is random and I've experienced it ever since OpenOffice introduce the Export to PDF feature. To me it seems like some sort of memory leak. The problem seems to happen usually after a document was being edited. I've learned to save my document every time before I export to PDF to avoid data loss. I don't use this feature real frequently but I would guess that it will crash about every third or fourth time I've been editing a document and then try to export it to PDF. Usually when I re-open and export it right away before any editing it will do it without crashing. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
