It scrolls the whole calc workspace to the right unnecessarily, so you > can't see the left column anymore, so you have to manually scroll left after > adding the comment. So possibly it should be aware of the available space in all directions and open the comment box in the most optimal position, just like it does so on hovering over the cell, but saves the original position still as the position to open the comment when right click > show comment. Excel has a similar behaviour as Calc. Calligra and WPS have editing comments in a dialog box. > 3. The comment box's position and width are not set appropriately. Calc's comment width (106px) is ~80% of the size of Excel's (129px) and ~50% of the size of Google Sheets (216px). I can fit 13 numbers (liberation sans 10pt) in Calc's comment width, 20 numbers (tahoma 8pt) in Excel and 27 numbers (arial 10pt) in Google Sheets. With Calc's default cell width, you can fit 23 numbers in two cells, while Writer's comments you can fit 25 numbers. Aiming to fit 20+ numbers per line would be what i'd recommend doing and we can get to 22 numbers per line by increasing the width to fit 2 cells (~165px). We could fit 24 numbers if we also reduce the font size to 9pt. > 4. It also does not allow you to immediately resize the comment box. You > have to first click outside the comment box, then the new comment is hidden, > then you have to right click the cell and show the comment. Then you have to > click the comment once, ONLY then can you resize it. Yes unfortunately as comments are treated exactly like shapes and textboxes, I doubt it would be possible to resize it while in text edit mode. @Regina: Any insights? > 5. The first time you drag a newly created comment box away from it's > original position, it moves a little bit, then disappears and resumes it's > original position. The 2nd time you drag it, it is dragged properly. Not able to reproduce this behaviour. > In a Nutshell: When text is pasted into the new comment box, the box should > expand as necessary to accommodate the pasted text, up to a maximum width > equal to the workspace in calc window; after setting the width, the height > should be set to accommodate the entire comment text. That is a bad user experience and more work > for the QA team. The old design definitely was complex, which even i struggled with when i first used it, which is why it was redesigned to be alot more user friendly. If users disagree with these changes, we are to hear them out and make changes accordingly, but i doubt QA will get any more work about this than they would have from the old design. > For the bitmap tab for example: Percents in a editable text-field which > change magically when something else is modified by the user is a bad user > experience when it is not clearly stated that these parameters are dependent > and by which rule they are dependent. Users already understand that if they modify a field and it changes another field, then these fields are related, like when they change the line spacing preset field in the paragraph dialog or when they change the column width in the table format dialog. Most users will select one of the available bitmap size presets, which are similar presets they would have seen when they changed their desktop wallpaper, and possibly change its alignment/position and thats it, and you cant get any more simpler than that for this feature. Users who want more control are given the ability to do so, and even they should find it simple to use. And lets not forget that we have a preview to give the user clear feedback on how any of their changes will change the outcome. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107573 --- Comment #3 from V Stuart Foote--- NO! The linkage between the Outline "Heading" paragraph Styles as annotation for Outline Numbering continues to make more sense. Calling them "Chapters" or labeling it as "Chapter Numbering" obscures the fact that each "Outline" level paragraph Heading style can describe a unique numbering/notation scheme and layout description (indenting and line spacing). It is by nature hierarchical allowing a user to follow the structural layout of the document format/standard in use. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34133 Jérômechanged: What|Removed |Added CC||jerome.bo...@wanadoo.fr --- Comment #42 from Jérôme --- I think the below additionnal settings would help. "don't resize if original size is greater than" : with 200% of resizing dpi for example (with value expressed in percent). This would avoid to make the image interpolation ugly if the orginial resolution isn't enough for the reduced resolution. For lossless compression : an optionnal "use indexed colours" checkbox. This could highly reduce the file size without any human perception difference with many "artificial" images. For any image manipulation, I think the lossless or lossy image type should be preserved. In most cases, if you convert a jpeg image into a png image, you will inflate the image file size. In a many cases the image file size will inflate if you convert a png image into a jpeg with a suitable quality, especially if the lossless image uses "artificial" colours (screenshot, ...), even more if they are indexed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77407] reduce image resolution at insertion time
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77407 --- Comment #6 from Luke--- This bug is asking for a destructive action AT INSERT TIME. However, bug 34133 asks for THE OPTION. Every other Office Suite handles this as an export, publishing time, because the operation is destructive. A destructive operation cannot be undone. Therefore, it's not **optional**. Even if bug 34133 is “resolved” with this poorly thought out at insert time idea. I would file a new bug report asking for the option to do it at export time, because this feature is not useful for most use cases at insert time. For example, if I have need to shrink a document to < 5MB to email, I would do the at the end of my work flow. With insert time options, this would not be possible. So bug 34133 wouldn't actually be resolved. However, calling .autoformat("Default") throws this error, even though "Default" is an autoformat that exists. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a calc document 2. In any BASIC macro routine, copy in the following line of code: thisComponent.Sheets(0).getCellRangeByName("A1:F14").autoformat("Default") 3. Running this macro results in the IllegalArgumentException 4. This results in random English words being marked as having been spelled incorrectly. LibreOffice should be able to detect the language without having to ask for it. In Writer it needs to be "Referenzen", because in the Fields dialog the associated commands are "Referenz setzen" und "Referenz einfügen". It might be useful to add an additional word, to explain, that it describes, that a portion of text inside the document is defined to be a target. It is not "Referenztext", because that means the text itself and might be confused with the same word in the lower part of the field dialog. In the past I have extracted photos and audio clips from email that an family member sent me to make a memorial web page after they had passed away. They were images and mp3s inserted into a Word doc. If Word used lossy compression like people are suggesting we use, the end result would have be far worse. The more I think about it the worse this idea sounds. Compressing and resizing belongs on the final, publishing/exporting step. This is how all other Office suites function.
