[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 105705] Libreoffice Writer crashes on inserting Zotero citations

2017-05-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105705

Hi!

It seems that the problem is solved. I installed Zotero Libreoffice integration
plugin from here
https://www.zotero.org/download/dev/Zotero-LibreOffice-Plugin-trunk.xpi and I
couldn't reproduce crash. The plugin version appearing now in Libreoffice is
5.0.0 and in Firefox 3.5.12.r10160. Not sure is it good or bad.

Huge thanks to developers!

Andis

Hello, Julien.

I can't find the source of Javascript code, so I guess the code is
auto-generated from cpp code via scripts. Thanks for the link, I will try to
find an angle to attack.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the delay.

I needed badly to use autotexts and ended up reinstalling lubuntu (16.04) and
libreoffice.

The bug didn't show up anymore, but I suspect it was related to
changing/deleting default path (I used to direct my autotexts to a file in a
dropbox folder).

Since I can't provide more info, I'm closing as resolved by insufficient data.

Thanks again and sorry for bothering.

I think the bug was introduced between bibisect-64.5.4 version
origin/master and daily Linux dbgutil bibisect repository version
2016-05-25. I do not have that range covered by a bibisect
repository.

On my debian-stretch system, I observe ...

(*) It is necessary to zoom out until the index and the page boundary
are visible at the same time. I also chose to turn off
side-by-side display of pages.

(*) The blue line is restored by any of
  - scroll wheel
  - movement by the vertical or horizontal scroll bar
  - when cursor is at the end of the document

(*) The blue line is not restore by keyboard movement of the caret,
neither by nor by except when the caret is at the
end of the document.

Linkage not intended to be removed.

The intent is to only change the menu label, i think 'Chapter and Outline
Numbering' is a bit to long though that is fine as well as it doesnt increase
the menu width much, and changing the dialog title to 'Chapter and Outline
Numbering'.

(In reply to Cor Nouws from comment #4)
> I know that. However, more experienced people will realize/find that. Less
> experienced people will look for .. chapter numbering, I think.

Yes the intent is to make it easier for less experienced to find it, similar to
us changing 'Indexes and Tables' to 'Table of Contents and Index' in the insert
menu, as though there are multiple table indexes that can be created with the
function, most users are would be looking to find the 'table of contents'
phrase.

I'll fix this shortly. Will be going with 'Display Views' as there are multiple
views.

Yes it should likely be changed to 'Views Tab Bar' or did you have a different

The heart of the issue seems to be this call in
WinFontInstance::CacheGlyphToAtlas(...):

HDC hNewDC = CreateCompatibleDC(hDC);
http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/vcl/win/gdi/winlayout.cxx#60

Each pass through here increases GDI (DC) usage by 1, and I assume it's called
for each glyph in the visible area of the font list.

This could go in as a custom option section that others suggested.

However, reducing the damage done doesn't address the fact that the proposed
"fix" is destructive change at the start of the work flow. Destructive edits
should never be applied by default or as an existing setting. They should be
something the user explicitly chooses.

So possibly it should be aware of the available space in all directions and
open the comment box in the most optimal position, just like it does so on
hovering over the cell, but saves the original position still as the position
to open the comment when right click > show comment. Excel has a similar
behaviour as Calc. Calligra and WPS have editing comments in a dialog box.

> 3. The comment box's position and width are not set appropriately.

Calc's comment width (106px) is ~80% of the size of Excel's (129px) and ~50% of
the size of Google Sheets (216px). I can fit 13 numbers (liberation sans 10pt)
in Calc's comment width, 20 numbers (tahoma 8pt) in Excel and 27 numbers (arial
10pt) in Google Sheets. With Calc's default cell width, you can fit 23 numbers
in two cells, while Writer's comments you can fit 25 numbers. Aiming to fit 20+
numbers per line would be what i'd recommend doing and we can get to 22 numbers
per line by increasing the width to fit 2 cells (~165px). We could fit 24
numbers if we also reduce the font size to 9pt.

> 4. It also does not allow you to immediately resize the comment box. You

Yes unfortunately as comments are treated exactly like shapes and textboxes, I
doubt it would be possible to resize it while in text edit mode. @Regina: Any
insights?

> 5. The first time you drag a newly created comment box away from it's
> original position, it moves a little bit, then disappears and resumes it's

Not able to reproduce this behaviour.

> In a Nutshell: When text is pasted into the new comment box, the box should
> expand as necessary to accommodate the pasted text, up to a maximum width
> equal to the workspace in calc window; after setting the width, the height

Not sure that resizing the width of the comment box based on the pasted text is
the way to go, as most comments are typed and are short.

Yes just the preview.

Well actually the Alignment tab is also likely not responding to the LTR/RTL
setting you just cant see it as it is affected by the alignment option, which
in RTL is set to right.

> Are the actual indentations: "Before text", "After text" and "First line"

Yep those seem fine either way as they are direction neutral.

> If they're correct it is just cosmetic to the GUI rather than functional.

Yes its just cosmetic to the rendering of the preview.

The old design definitely was complex, which even i struggled with when i first
used it, which is why it was redesigned to be alot more user friendly. If users
disagree with these changes, we are to hear them out and make changes
accordingly, but i doubt QA will get any more work about this than they would
have from the old design.

> For the bitmap tab for example: Percents in a editable text-field which
> change magically when something else is modified by the user is a bad user

> and by which rule they are dependent.

Users already understand that if they modify a field and it changes another
field, then these fields are related, like when they change the line spacing
preset field in the paragraph dialog or when they change the column width in
the table format dialog. Most users will select one of the available bitmap
size presets, which are similar presets they would have seen when they changed
their desktop wallpaper, and possibly change its alignment/position and thats
it, and you cant get any more simpler than that for this feature. Users who
want more control are given the ability to do so, and even they should find it
simple to use. And lets not forget that we have a preview to give the user
clear feedback on how any of their changes will change the outcome.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107573] Rename Tools > Outline Numbering to Chapter Numbering

2017-05-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107573

NO!

The linkage between the Outline "Heading" paragraph Styles as annotation for
Outline Numbering continues to make more sense.

Calling them "Chapters" or labeling it as "Chapter Numbering" obscures the fact
that each "Outline" level paragraph Heading style can describe a unique
numbering/notation scheme and layout description (indenting and line spacing).

It is by nature hierarchical allowing a user to follow the structural layout of
the document format/standard in use.

The dialog provides by definition a framework for Outline not Chapter/Section
numbering.

I think the below additionnal settings would help.

"don't resize if original size is greater than" : with 200% of resizing dpi for
example (with value expressed in percent). This would avoid to make the image
interpolation ugly if the orginial resolution isn't enough for the reduced
resolution.

For lossless compression : an optionnal "use indexed colours" checkbox. This
could highly reduce the file size without any human perception difference with
many "artificial" images.

For any image manipulation, I think the lossless or lossy image type should be
preserved. In most cases, if you convert a jpeg image into a png image, you
will inflate the image file size. In a many cases the image file size will
inflate if you convert a png image into a jpeg with a suitable quality,
especially if the lossless image uses "artificial" colours (screenshot, ...),
even more if they are indexed.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 34133] Add ability to automatically compress and resize images

2017-05-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34133

Compression and reducing image size are both destructive operations. Instead of
making this an option at export, save, or publishing time, why are we choosing
to do it at insert time? What use case other than Bug 77407 justifies this
reduction in functionality and risk of data loss?

Will tools > options -> Compression settings be retroactive? If not, how will
you handle the most common use case of reducing the overall document size to be
shared with others? If your proposed solution doesn't address this, it doesn't
resolve this bug report, only Bug 77407 which is a far less likely scenario.

Sorry... Is it a problem that the user can float the undo list? Because as a
user I find it great to always have it in view to be able to control what is
going to be undone. I do not think it's annoying but an option for users.
Sorry for the English. I use Google.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77407] reduce image resolution at insertion time

2017-05-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77407

This bug is asking for a destructive action AT INSERT TIME. However, bug 34133
asks for THE OPTION. Every other Office Suite handles this as an export,
publishing time, because the operation is destructive.

A destructive operation cannot be undone. Therefore, it's not **optional**.
Even if bug 34133 is “resolved” with this poorly thought out at insert time
idea. I would file a new bug report asking for the option to do it at export
time, because this feature is not useful for most use cases at insert time.

For example, if I have need to shrink a document to < 5MB to email, I would do
the at the end of my work flow. With insert time options, this would not be
possible. So bug 34133 wouldn't actually be resolved.

These are 2 totally separate issues.

As i recently tried out the eLAIX extension for bug 106781 and it had a button
labelled 'Set Chapter Numbering' which enabled numbering of all 10 heading
levels in Tools > Outline Numbering and Sophie mentioned in bug 104151 comment
21 that she translates it to chapter numbering in French and i see that the
phrase chapter numbering is widely used and thought of for this feature, i
think it would be good to change it.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 107567] Text previews in Paragraph dialog not showing correctly for RTL

2017-05-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107567

Sorry, I don't think Khaled's work would have impacted this. Typically, I
misread the issue.

Beleive it is just the *preview* for the Paragraph dialog that is incorrectly
formatted.

The representation of the "Indents & Spacing" does not respond to the font
direction assigned to the paragraph. While the "Alignment" tab does respond to
the LTR/RTL setting of the paragraph.

Are the actual indentations: "Before text", "After text" and "First line"
correct for the given script?

If they're correct it is just cosmetic to the GUI rather than functional.

Bug ID: 107572
Summary: Macro Calc Range autoformat("Default") throws
IllegalArgumentException
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.3.2.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: BASIC
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: database.framewo...@gmail.com

Description:
Wrote a function in BASIC that formats a Calc range using .autoformat function,
see documentation here:
http://api.libreoffice.org/docs/idl/ref/interfacecom_1_1sun_1_1star_1_1table_1_1XAutoFormattable.html

In the API reference it says it throws the error
com::sun::star::lang::IllegalArgumentException if the specified AutoFormat does
not exist. However, calling .autoformat("Default") throws this error, even
though "Default" is an autoformat that exists.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a calc document
2. In any BASIC macro routine, copy in the following line of code:

thisComponent.Sheets(0).getCellRangeByName("A1:F14").autoformat("Default")

3. Running this macro results in the IllegalArgumentException
4. Confirm that the syntax is correct by using a different autoformat like:

thisComponent.Sheets(0).getCellRangeByName("A1:F14").autoformat("Green")

Actual Results:
IllegalArgumentException

Expected Results:
Calc Range Autoformatted using "Default" autoformatting

By default, the Default Language for Documents (Western) is German. This
results in random English words being marked as having been spelled
incorrectly. LibreOffice should be able to detect the language without having
to ask for it.

I realize that this is easy enough for a user to change, but it’s something
which shouldn’t have to be changed at all. Besides, it’s rather off-putting for
new users. Someone might try LibreOffice and give up on it after seeing it mark
correctly-spelled words as being incorrectly spelled.

So this checkbox should be changed to only work at the table level and be
labelled 'Allow all rows to break across pages and columns'.

No i doubt anyone would find it if it was put in that dialog.

Yes this is one of the features that i've been meaning to suggest be added as
it baffled me why we have a column tab but no row tab. Also i had seen a row
tab in MS Word. -

express the semantic meaning of 'paragraph' better.

As the UNO command is only a per-row setting, do we have an UNO command that
works at the table level to set this feature, as that is what we need in the
menu and not the current per row option?

OpenGL is black listed and disabled. With "Use hardware acceleration" or
uncheck for CPU only rendering there are no rendering issues with this AMD GPU
and driver.

If OpenGL is "forced" LibreOffice does not open to screen. Glviewer reports
OpenGL 4.1 level support for this driver/GPU combo.

What if one copies/pastes an image from the file browser?

Understand that.
Would an option, at the place where compression is set, to turn this on/off by
default, make you happy / less sad?

"Bezüge" is only used in Calc as "absolute Bezüge" und "relative Bezüge" and
describes how a cell address is written.

In Writer it needs to be "Referenzen", because in the Fields dialog the
associated commands are "Referenz setzen" und "Referenz einfügen".

It might be useful to add an additional word, to explain, that it describes,
that a portion of text inside the document is defined to be a target. It is not
"Referenztext", because that means the text itself and might be confused with
the same word in the lower part of the field dialog.

In case "Referenzen" is not clear enough or not wanted, I suggest
"Textreferenzen".

It had been "Referenzen" in LO version 4 and I don't know why it was changed at
all.

The string has KeyID KuNe6.

Hello,

We have found a workaround until the bug gets fixed: in Tools->Customize, the
Keyboard tab, look for the control-shift-home and end entries, and click delete
for both of them. Of course this is only a workaround :)

One more point. In the past I have extracted photos and audio clips from email
that an family member sent me to make a memorial web page after they had passed
away. They were images and mp3s inserted into a Word doc. If Word used lossy
compression like people are suggesting we use, the end result would have be far
worse. The more I think about it the worse this idea sounds.

Compressing and resizing belongs on the final, publishing/exporting step. This
is how all other Office suites function. This is how our Impress presentation
currently functions. Trying to do this backwards by default is going to lead to
data loss and unhappy users.
