only changed text color. then added background.

i think (without having seen the source code) that the options in the menu are

Have upgraded to 5.3.3.2 through the repository (ppa) for Libreoffice 5.3.
The Save AS problem has been solved. However, the problem related to deleting
column or deleting more than 1000 rows in a single action still persists for
this particular file. I would like to reiterate that the problem is in this one
particular sheet only. I have used few formula for Match and INDIRECT
referencing of cells and suspect that deletion results in some infinite loop or
an extremely slow loop getting executed.
Few years back I used to use MS EXCEL where I used much more complex formulii
but never faced performance issues.

I've just attached another extreme case example, where the kashida messed up
the text though I haven't even used justification! Just by changing the zoom
from 351% to 352% I got the bad text. Attached is the source document and two
screenshots; one shows the good, the other shows the bad.

Libre office works OK provided I run it before opening Edge. If I attempt to
open Libre Office after Edge is run, it doesn't open a window but Task Manager
shows that Libre Office is running and using ~18% of CPU. The only way I've
found to open Libre is to re-boot and use it before Edge. Once Libre Office is
running, Edge can be run without affecting LibreOffice.

Log of terminal and gdb from the test

Buovjaga, I have tried to make what you have written, but I had some problems,
see also attached log in the odt document!

First problem is:
(gdb) break documen2.cxx:385
No source file named documen2.cxx.
Make breakpoint pending on future shared library load? (y or [n]) y

Must be available for the test the source documen2.cxx:385? When yes, where
must it be located? 

Second problem: In the test didn't come a break, not at first copy + paste and
not at second. I don't know if the reason is the missing (or wrongly located)
source or is it the fact that I can't reproduce the error in Linuy (Ubuntu
17.04) - see my Comment 3.

PS: I am a beginner in Ubuntu and I'm not very familiar with this system.

Coming from the recent dupe bug, I suggest this bug's name be changed from
"probably" to "definitely". 

Just for comparison - remember that scanners typically support 2400 DPI
resolution if not higher, which means 1 pixel is ~10^-6m = 0.001 cm. No reason
why we should not be able to position content on a page at this resolution.

With due respect to UX considerations - at the very least there should be an
option controlling this. It is not reasonable to cripple an app just to make
the fractional digits slightly less confusing to newbies.

I understand that some underlying infrastructure is limited to 10^-5 meter
increments, and the UX people might want to hide some semi-incoherent rounding
artifacts at that resolution. If that's the case, then it's the underlying
representation which should be made to use higher resolution.

interesting point - performance is only degraded at when zoomed out, not when
zoomed in - while you're zooming, don't forget the appalling bug where
non-monospaced fonts don't scale correctly at different zoom level. It's just
as important to zoom in and out of a large spreadsheet as it is to zoom in and
of google maps. I am truly horrified that you guys keep releasing update after
upadate without fixing these utterly humiliating mistakes. Where's the pride?
What's the point of this project if you're not going to respect it?

I am having this same problem on 5.1.6.2 using Ubuntu 16.04.  I create a form
in Libre Office, export it to PDF, and when I open it in Windows in Acrobat
Reader I receive the message about missing fonts and all of the drop down menus
that I created in the form only show dots where they should show words.

Loading data from a .xls file COUNTIF works only if the condition is defined in
the selected range.
A condition defined in a different cell or within the formula does not work.

This seems to be a character encoding problem 

Also loading the data from a csv file ISO-8859-15 encoded COUNTIF works correct

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated yesterday or with LO Debian
package 5.2.7, I don't reproduce this.

I just created a brand new file with a blue rectangle and used English/US
language.
In Grayscale, it indeed appears gray.
In B/W, it appears white.


Do you reproduce this with a brand new file?
What UI language do you use? Could you give a try to last stable LO version
5.3.4?

Internally the canvas already positions to 10^-5m increments--or 1/100mm--but
by design we limit the GUI widgets to just 2 decimal places. So at best we can
position in 10^-4m increments, or the rounded conversion from other measure
units (TWIPS, pts, px, ch).

For now the project calculates positions as 32-bit integers.

Achieving higher precision requires we move to floating point calculations
which is being looked at but is a long way from implementation.

For now--increasing the UI to 3 decimal places of duplicate bug 44267 is about
as far as we can go to expose the limited precision possible with current
framework.

I removed the bibliography but it still took about 4 minutes to save the
document. Machine i7 with hard drive.

I also used a DELL i5-6300U CPU @2.4 GHZ laptop with 16 GB of RAM and a 500 GB
SSD drive. This did not much affect the time to save the document: still 3
minutes.

The remarks in this comment are a little bit off topic but I don't know an
appropriate place where I can put these thoughts about how to improve the
quality of LibreOffice.

I see a deeper problem here: If you use a complex system like LibreOffice it is
quite common to use uncommon features. In case you need some functionality you
are not familiar with it is important that the software guides you towards a
solution of your problem. I guess that the actual number of LO developers is
about one or two orders of magnitudes below the level necessary to bring to
LibreOffice to this kind of quality. So I fear I have to live with the fact
that  in these situations I will find material to write half a dozen bug
reports instead of guidance. Of course I have almost given up writing bug
reports. See for example bug 54068 comment 8 "The 'Edit>Compare Documents'
command does not detect changes in tables properly". This bug renders the
"Compare Documents" feature almost useless if your document contains tables. I
tried my birthday gift to this bug with Word97: This software is 20 years old
and is able to locate the table cell that contains the difference. A more
recent version of Word (I think it was 2010) shows you the exact character that
differs. A recent version LibreOffice Writer tells you that the tables are
different and leaves it to your ingenuity to find ways to locate the exact
position of the modification. A common effect of all these problems is that
they distract you. Therefore you need more time than necessary to get your work
done. If somebody has to pay for your time this translates into cost.

Some years ago I mentioned that the city of Munich thought about returning to
Microsoft products after they had tried hard to switch to a "open source
software only" strategy (see end of comment 18). Recently they decided to
return. The argument that it is cheaper to pay licences fees to Microsoft than
to pay for additional working hours is consistent with my own experience. Open
source enthusiasts seem not to like the idea that paying millions to Microsoft
is a way to save taxpayers money. Unfortunately I did not notice that they
brought up any sound arguments against this view.

I think there is a good reason to invest public money in the development of
open source software. The fact that the city of Munich buys MS-Office licenses
will not change the price I have to pay for this software. If, in contrast,
this money is spent for LibreOffice development then any taxpayer using this
software will get something in return. This is like using a road: You benefit
from public money spent on building and maintaining traffic infrastructure.
There is no need to pay a fee each time to walk along some road or to hope that
some volunteers build motorways. I consider LibreOffice (and a lot of other
Open XXX things) as part of an immaterial infrastructure which should be
treated in similar ways as their material counterpart. The general public could
benefit from the fact that distributing immaterial goods is pretty cheap.
Regulations for conventional infrastructure could be adapted to deal with the
investments necessary to bring LibreOffice and other immaterial infrastructure
in good shape. I wonder why I do not see any activities along these lines.

Thank you for the explanation. I hope I will remember it when I need it next
time - maybe next year. This can save me the work to set all the outline
formats individually but still requires two operations per file: Importing
styles and selecting outline formats.

I noticed the "Format" button only after I had finished my work. It was not
immediately clear how this works: There is a "save as" option but no
corresponding "load" option. So I did not invest additional time trying to find
out how this mechanism works.

I assume that this process could be automated using the UNO interface.
Unfortunately I did not find good documentation and/or tools that allowed me to
locate the necessary objects and methods within some reasonable time span.

The following is based on my incomplete understanding of the mechanisms, so I
may be wrong.

An important source of confusion is the fact that there are two ways of
attaching numbers to paragraphs: Outline numbering and list styles. From a
practical point of view the main difference between the two is that the former
will appear in the table of content and the latter will not. But they are
implemented as two independent features with separate user interfaces and
storage mechanisms. The user interface tries to make sure that each paragraph
uses at most one of these mechanisms. This leads to strange interactions, e.g.
you can use the button "Toggle Numbered List (F12)" on some paragraph that
participates in outline numbering. This seems to copy the content of the
numbering style into the corresponding level of the outline numbering format.
You may be tempted to define two different list styles, one for the main text
and one for the appendix and to apply them to headings. I guess this will not
work because the list styles will be mapped to outline numbering which does not
support two different styles for the same outline level.

When I position objects in a Draw drawing, I often need to have fine control
over their position - much finer than 0.01cm (=0.1mm), which is the best
resolution at which I can change sizes and positions - at least with the
default page size.

For example, this is necessary when you want to place a shape just so that the
connector from it to another shape will be straight rather than turn.

Now, you could argue that no resolution is really sufficient and that I would
only be satisfied by have rational numbers, or unlimited arbitrary precision,  
as the resolution - and maybe you would be right, but this would be arguing
about the solution, not the problem.

So, what are the options IMO:

1. Fixed resolution, but much better than 0.1mm; say, 1000 times better should
be sufficient to approximate infinite resolution for use in preparing
documentation for print. 10 times better is not quite enough, 100 times - not
sure.
2. Fractional resolution - you can specify a numerator and denominator. This
could be an optional feature, i.e. only if you set something in the UI does the
denominator box show up, and by default it'll have "0.01 cm" and the numerator
will be integral.
3. Floating-point resolution - not sure how well that would work with LO's
internals, but it's an option I guess.
4. Unlimited precision digits - always respect the user's manual setting in the
position and size box, and use some kind of variable-length bigint-like type to
represent these values.

If I take your Study/Weight/SexF data and copy it to a new Calc sheet, then
select all of the data (including first line) and drag it onto your
demographics table, the data get's inserted correctly (apart from having a

However, your CSV file doesn't appear to be in a format that can be recognized
correctly by Base.

The first line contains multiple occurrences of ,, (double comma). Base is
incapable of interpreting this.

It takes the first line as the column names, wherein each field name is
separated by a single comma. If you include two commas, Base can not index that
data stream against the field definitions in your ODB file.

The same goes for your values. You need to separate your data back out into 3
different CSV files again, and then try importing them separately; or else tidy
up your single CSV file so that all of the data can be imported correctly.

Stefan: if you would like to try what result you get (as I had different
symptoms):

Install gdb
Launch LibreOffice from the commandline with
SAL_NO_MOUSEGRABS=1 ./soffice
That way your mouse clicks will not be hijacked.

Then attach gdb to LibreOffice:
sudo gdb --pid `pgrep soffice`

Press enter when it asks. When you see the (gdb) prompt, give the command
break documen2.cxx:385

Then give the command: c

Then start doing the reproduction steps in LibreOffice. Use c in gdb to
continue until before you have copied A10 to clipboard. When it breaks the next
time, give the command n (for next) like in my previous comment. Then you can
show us your results.

Like you can see, all tables are well displayed except the "Technologie" table.

That specific crash has been reported both on debian
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=865303) and ubuntu
(https://launchpad.net/bugs/1702165). It started happening with a recent linux
kernel update related to stack clash fixes (see
https://launchpad.net/bugs/1699772). Subsequent kernel updates appear to have
fixed all userspace apps affected by that crash, except for libreoffice on x86,
which is still crashing. Libreoffice on x86-64 is fine.

I can reliably reproduce the crash in an Ubuntu 17.04 x86 virtual machine by
ensuring that java is enabled in libreoffice's advanced options (using the
openjdk-8 package), launching base and creating a new database.

lege brief - En.docx is an interesting document.  If round-tripped in MSO2007,
then it works fine in LO.  So it is hard to simplify this document so that you
can see the problem "at a glance" instead of having to enter a lot of text each
testing time.

In LO, it looks like perhaps at one time there was a caption under the footer's
image.  A textbox frame extends below the image. The frame is already "wrap
through", but needs the "in background" attribute.

InTheBackgroundTextbox.docx: textbox should be behind the main text paragraph,
not hiding it.

In MSWord, the textbox is wrapped as "behind text".  In LO, the import is now
properly done as "wrap through" but misses the "in background" option.

History:
LO3.6: textbox not considered wrap_through.
LO4.0: textframe was massive - completely messed up.
LO4.1: textbox wraps through, but in foreground - same as today in 6.0master.

Perhaps a pre-requisite for bug 103978?  Not a duplicate, but that bugfix will
will need to syncProperty of wrap/background.

Reverting my fix just in effect disables a major hunk of a11y features, and
just for gtk3. You can see this is accerciser for example where with this
hacked out it just reports "" for the contents of the main frame rather
than the tree of widgets it reports otherwise. You might as well just
specifically disable the input bar a11y support to get the same effect.

Paste special GDI blah blah worked, but I believe it shouldn't be that way.

I have been pasting images from PaintShopPro, PDF documents and Firefox (HTML
pages) and they all work with CTR+V.

How come Word images have to be different? It works with everything except
Word?

I feel the right fix is to change the "generic" backend to give buttons,

Fighting l10n for plurals always has diminishing returns. And IIUC it is "by
design" to leave it in the plural form to facilitate l10n string translation
cross platform.
