FYI I'm verifying the described steps using my office 2010 and office 365
installs, so this *should* apply to 2016, but I can't personally check.

You can shade all fields by going to File -> options -> advanced -> Field
Shading = 'Always' (setting below the previously mentioned field codes
checkbox)

On the first page to the right of the string 'Author' there are some field
names.
>From page 2 onwards they are literally everywhere.

They are also in the center of the header, not just to the right for page
numbering.

Following attachment is a screenshot of my view in word 365.

... and can not reproduce when switched to English UI:
Version: 6.3.4.2 (x64)

CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 10.0; UI render: default; VCL: win;
Locale: zh-CN (zh_CN); UI-Language: en-US
Calc: threaded

So comment #0 is right, it only happens on Chinese UI. Although in my case
with Chinese UI, the unit for the ruler is stuck at 厘米 (centimeter).

I'll test some other combinations.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128312] Calculation involing some decimals return incorrect floats with 12 d.p.

2020-01-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128312

(In reply to b. from comment #7)

Bug 130221 was rightfully closed as duplicate of this; and this was rightfully
closed NOTABUG.

> these wrong calculations are! mistakes! period, duplicate ans 'NOTABUG' is
> misleading,
>
> they are errors because calc - and other spreadsheets? - give results that
> are not mathematically correct.
>
> one might discuss whether they are unsolvable errors and leave them as they
> are, but one shouldn't try to convince normal people with normal
> mathematical education that they are not errors. This will always and again
> cause endless discussions.

Now you mix *three* different things: "bug", "mistake", and "error"; and also
use ambiguous word "misleading". Bug tracker is only and exclusively a tool for
tracking *bugs* of this software, not anything that is not a bug, even if it
has "error" from mathematical point of view. So *first* thing to learn and
accept is to avoid any reference to "errors", and only speak about bugs. Bug
tracker does not have to "convince normal people" in anything; it simply states
if something is *issue in the software*. If you don't accept that, you are
spammer. Period.

Spreadsheet applications are created to perform machine calculations. They have
well-known limitations, like those that result from requirement of performance:
these applications are necessarily only perform mathematics on system hardware
(e.g., CPU), without using complex software calculations, which could in theory
provide some different (and sometimes mathematically more correct) results.
That is not something to be changed in Calc in any foreseeable future; and
unless there is a way to perform more precise calculations on hardware, any
duplicate of this bug is NOTABUG (but ignorance of submitter, or in case when
someone has already been informed, stubbornness or trolling).

Currently, the predominant computer architecture uses binary representation of
numbers, specifically in case of floats (which are universally used for any
numbers in spreadsheet software) - IEEE 754-1985. These numbers represent
arbitrary decimal numbers with limited and specified precision; hardware
operations on these representations give specific *errors* in results (which
are *not* bugs!); and that is expected and normal state of things. This is the
state of the art and standard of the industry; and again - this is not to be
"discussed in depth", or argued with developers, wasting their time the
thousandth time in need of explaining the same thing to just another person who
happens to dislike reading what is already told many times.

> ex$el and g$$gle have - according to comments in other threads - at least
> partially concealed the problem with rounding,

That was shown false: see comment 4 and comment 5. Repeating a false statement
ad nauseam does not make it true.

> @Mike has fixed a variant /
> consequence of these rounding errors in #129606, so improvements are!
> possible.

A fix in an interactive operation that is known to (1) usually require small
precision; (2) not to have mission-critical consequences of small
(in)accuracies resulting from applied extra rounding; and (3) be not
performance-critical (because it's a UI operation) can *not* be extrapolated to
any other calculation in spreadsheet, for which any of these points might not
hold. E.g., even ignoring accuracy problems that might arise from these
roundings (guess what: if there were universal rounding algorithms that
magically make *binary number* calculations *more* correct, they would be
already be in standard, and implemented), the operation would add huge
performance penalty, which would put system working with any descent
spreadsheet to its knees.

> i had suggested to check an eventually fundamental improvement in #130221 -

A new standard does not change anything by itself. Are you such a day-dreamer
that you imagine that any standard would magically get implemented in your
hardware just because it has magic "IEEE" letters? Read the Wikipedia article
[1], which explicitly tells "Discussed but not included". No hardware
implements that standard; neither there is a hardware implementing IEEE
754-2019, so nothing to discuss here, too.

Dear ndevenish,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 105387] Dragging Extension Manager vertically on a Windows touchscreen does not have effect

2020-01-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105387

Dear Volga,

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team

Thanks for reporting this bug. From your description and LibreOffice version
this looks very similar to bug 129082, which will be fixed in version 6.3.5.

6.3.5 will be released at the end of February, and the first release candidate
(6.3.5.1) should be out next week. Meanwhile you can also test with version
6.4.0 which also fixed that bug, maybe with parallel installation
(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel/Windows).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128312] Calculation involing some decimals return incorrect floats with 12 d.p.

2020-01-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128312

two more comments ... sorry if I argue too persistently, i like improvements,
and contradiction or hastily supressing bugs as duplicate (especially of those
imho too hastily qualified as 'notabug') sometimes annoys me and sometimes
pushes me to contra-contradiction ... :

1. IEEE 754-2008 really promises to have a solution?

wikipedia about f.-p. accuracy problems and formats and a solution:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floating-point_arithmetic#Accuracy_problems

citation:

'As decimal fractions can often not be exactly represented in binary
floating-point, such arithmetic is at its best (...) , and at its worst when it
is expected to model the interactions of quantities expressed as decimal
strings that are expected to be exact. An example of the latter case is
financial calculations. For this reason, financial software tends not to use a
binary floating-point number representation. The "decimal" data type of the C#
and Python programming languages, and the decimal formats of the IEEE 754-2008
standard, are designed to avoid the problems of binary floating-point
representations when applied to human-entered exact decimal values, and make
the arithmetic always behave as expected when numbers are printed in decimal.'

imho that qualifies for 'NOTABUG' being wrong, and a request for improvement
(an enhancement request?), being a valid and justified proposal as it would be
possible,

just my two cents ...

2. for those poor people who have to do financial / accountancy calculations in
spreadsheets ... :-( ... i have compassion with you ... a trick used by some
banks as well:

do the calculations with integer values representing the 'cents' (or whatever
your currency defines as minimum fractional part of it's units), and divide the
results for display if neccessary ...

e.g. =0,1 EUR + 0,1 EUR ... or similar may fail in some situations, while =10
cent + 10 cent ... (divided by 100) has a better chance for an exact result as
most integers have an exact representation in binary, (and in floating point /
IEEE 754?)

(not tested - short in time - just a stolen idea, but looks promising)

(pls. no arguing that 0,1 + 0,1 and most calculations will 'show' correct
results when displayed with 2 decimal digits, yes, i'm through with all that
stuff, problems will step in once you have 'if([0,12]=[0,12])' being false reg.
comparing 0,11999... with 0,120001... or similar, or when rounding
too often and too early to avoid carrying fractions, and thus sums of rounded
values deviate against the rounded of a sum, and different parts of your
software / your sheet use different approaches to the result ...)

(we / you had a proposal for IEEE 754-2008 5 years ago, see #76245, still
unanswered, and other bugs e.g. problems with large values as well, see #37923
and plenty bugs cited there)

reg.

Yes, please work on it. The status does not have to be changed, because
multiple people can work on it at the same time.

You can unhide comments by clicking on the [+] link, but there is nothing of
value in them here.

Do read all the visible comments, but note that we are able to use the vast

I confirm the issue with LO 7.0+ in Win so ALl. Also with OO 3.3.
Reason in Microsoft font Calibri. Doesn't happen with Liberation font.
Text box is not wrapped or autofitted.
We have already reported bugs for Writer so this is well-known issue, that's
unlikely to be resolved.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 130246] New: Random lines appear on large text when hardware acceleration is enabled

2020-01-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130246

Bug ID: 130246
Summary: Random lines appear on large text when hardware
acceleration is enabled
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.2.8.1 rc
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: kont...@kuba-orlik.name

Description:
When inserting some large text into a slide, some of the text has line-shaped
holes in it. They seem to have a fixed position on the screen. Here are some
screenshots:

https://hub.sealcode.org/file/data/ptdfj4oni2d5cliqhzxo/PHID-FILE-wnvvgjrl74d4u4rra7xc/2020-01-28_21-46.png

https://hub.sealcode.org/file/data/53pvn6upyfpup7hv6tem/PHID-FILE-va3gitecduo6zygppck3/2020-01-28_21-47.png

Disabling Hardware acceleration solves the problem.

Steps to Reproduce:
0. Enable Hardware Acceleration in settings
1. Insert some large text (32pt is enough to see the result)
2. It looks ok while editing the slide
3. Start the presentation

Actual Results:
The text has line-shaped holes in it

Expected Results:
Text should not have line-shaped holes in it

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
Version: 6.2.8.2
Build ID: 6.2.8-4
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.19; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;

Can we have the release versions built with the 10.13 SDK?

Yes.

That might had been even on purpose because there may be various reasons why
(portions) are recalculated and not all are wanted to trigger a "save this"
state. We probably should do that at least after a manual hard recalc.

> I don't understand why cell N8 isn't calculated correctly on opening the

Because files are not generally recalculated upon open. You normally don't want
that, specifically not with more complicated documents. The point here in this
case is that once in history the file was saved with wrong results (probably
due to some other bug that miscalculated a grouped shared formula, the creator
is old LibreOffice/5.3.3.2), and the file is opened preserving those results,
hence has to be recalculated once and saved.

> I'm sure this has come up before in some other bug report...
Probably. I don't recall a bug number.

This debate comes up again and again.

I notice that hard recalculate doesn't set the flag "changed", so the user can
not know that a save is necessary.

Also, a hard recalculate is a particularly difficult keyboard maneuver to pull
off on a Mac keyboard (just saying) involving cramping three fingers of one
hand around the Shift-Fn-Cmd keys and then pressing F9 (but that is surely
another issue)

I don't understand why cell N8 isn't calculated correctly on opening the file.

I'm sure this has come up before in some other bug report...

@Eike: thoughts ?

Hi Dieter. Line "Heading 4 - Paragraph page break before" has a page break
assigned directly to the paragraph, not to the style: I think this explains the
different behaviour.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 128312] Calculation involing some decimals return incorrect floats with 12 d.p.

2020-01-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128312

Now i'm getting a little frustrated ...

these wrong calculations are! mistakes! period, duplicate ans 'NOTABUG' is
misleading,

they are errors because calc - and other spreadsheets? - give results that are
not mathematically correct.

one might discuss whether they are unsolvable errors and leave them as they
are, but one shouldn't try to convince normal people with normal mathematical
education that they are not errors. This will always and again cause endless
discussions.

ex$el and g$$gle have - according to comments in other threads - at least
partially concealed the problem with rounding, @Mike has fixed a variant /
consequence of these rounding errors in #129606, so improvements are! possible.

i had suggested to check an eventually fundamental improvement in #130221 -
allegedly the IEEE has taken the problem into account and with the IEEE
standards 754-2008 and 754-2019 allows to calculate decimal numbers without
rounding errors -

imho it is worth at least a check or test if:
- something like this could be implemented, maybe in future releases, and
- if calc and the developers can get out of many stupid requests that way, and
- whether calc could positively distinguish itself from other spreadsheets by
solving this issue.

or if Mike's improvement from #129606 can be used for other cases as well ...

the practice of dismissing any suggestion for improvement as a duplicate of old
bugs (that no developer will look at anymore because they are grown too long
and perhaps awkwardly presented at first), i feel to be ... suboptimal.

it continues to provide the 'administrators' with a lot of administrative work,
yes, but it doesn't move the project forward.

see there:

http://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=157453

a sheet with errors and the improvements by @Mike from #129606, and there:

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130221#c0

something about old IEEE 754 not! being the last in possibilities

i'd like if someone reopens this bug, or points to another place where the
issue can be discussed in depth ...

reg.

b.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 130233] Skia: quality of font rendering to canvas is degraded

2020-01-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130233

Created attachment 157484
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=157484=edit
zip of several screen clips Writer document and UI with Skia-Vulkan and OpenGL

Screen clips from 1920x1080 res monitor, Intel HD Graphics 620 (26.20.100.7584)
Windows 10 1903, Google Roboto regular (unhinted) installed to system.

Pairs of LO with OpenGL v. Skia/Vulkan rendering of the UI.

One set shows smooth Chrome browser rendering of Roboto regular sample text
with LO writer canvas rendering of the same text.

Other set shows LO rendering of document at 250% with the 'Insert' menu
showing.

So, while for the Roboto font, rendering to document canvas is not excessively
different--both renderings are rough--the Skia/Vulkan rendering has line weight
and aliasing issues.

Where differences are quite noticeable is in rendering the LibreOffice user
interface (which IIUC is fully hinted Segoe UI). The labeling of LO menu
entries with Skia/Vulkan at screen resolution is painful.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 130243] New: EDITING Incorrect field name transfer from certain database columns on Windows

2020-01-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130243

Bug ID: 130243
Summary: EDITING Incorrect field name transfer from certain
database columns on Windows
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.2.8.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Base
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: jochen.plume...@uhlmann-ludewig.de

We tried on both current official Windows Versions (6.2.8, 6.3.4) of
LibreOffice to transfer a database column name as a data field ("MwSt" by the
way) from PostgreSQL. It always brought up a wrong field name "MWSt" with upper
case "W".

None of the 3 Linux versions of LibreOffice (5.2 Debian, 6.2 and 6.3) had this
problem.

Of course this lead to wrong output, as some default value is chosen then.

Perhaps relevant: The ODT had been created in OpenOffice-3.2 and contained
somewhere perhaps the wrong field name, and OpenOffice did not seem to be
restrictive about the case of field names.
