[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133950] UI EDITING Drawing a shape, the cursor is not precise
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133950 --- Comment #1 from sah...@chacuo.net --- This should be a problem from https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/core/vcl/unx/gtk3/gtk3gtkdata.cxx?r=aef7feb3#134 The cursor size changes but the "hot position" does not change. A temporary solution: 1. I go to system config and set default_cursor_size to 32 (it is 16 before) 2. Reboot Libreoffice 3. The cursor become precise 4. go to system config and set default_cursor_size to 16 5. The cursor is still precise Maybe it should not scale the cursor image. There is a new problem. For almost all shapes, the cursor becomes "DrawText". Here after, as I don't know the actual name for it, I'll assign the name 'active Data zone' the zone between Cell A1 and the Cell we could get with keyboard action. e.a. Here between A1 and AMH11 So A way to get around that crash (until it'll be corrected): ==> Click onto any cell into a column outside the 'active Data zone' ( e.a. here in column AMI or AMJ ) in any row that action will lead to successful search result again. REM: That way to overcome the issue will have to be redo any time you'll reload the concerned CALC File. NB: I don't know if that momentary way to overcome the issue is artificial or not. Miklos will enlighten us. There is surely a by design part.. And I'm not objecting again some memory increase.. And it how useful/relevant the caching is depends on the different area's of LibreOffice.. Caching of the main document/ caching when using multi page view (separate?)/ Print preview/ Print/ PDF export However it's more the big picture: memory usage of PDF export is up from 88MB to 261 MB while exporting and the 261 MB isn't released after finishing for example (bug 133652). The layout cache is not the only cause; image handling has a part in it too (starting from increasing to memory cache in 4.4.7.2 (?) and 5.2?) I'm not seeing any really noticeable benefit to it (except maybe preventing the slowdown by Harfbuzz) So for the record, i'm complaining about this specific commit. And not saying it's should be called a "regression" in the technical developer sense, but it is a regression compared to the past. So, in advance.. feel free to remove the keyword (including see also's) And yes, every memory bump can be explained by itself, but I don't like the pattern/trend. Tablets/Ipads don't have endless memory available. Anyhow. Purging the unused part of the cache for an active document once in a while wouldn't hurt (if possible,).. And not sure how the caching works.. PDF export seems to trigger (separate?) round of catching? Should it not be shared with main document or if not purged? And a purge on document close would be nice too For the record: not knowing anything about how everything is build together or the inner workings of LibreOffice. I don't want to proof brokenness.. or point my finger to to an certain developer.. I'm surely aware of the need of saving vcl layout calls. And yes, this is like not something to fix straight away, I fear; so we end up at the madding $$$ topic So where to shave, what to shave, how to shave some memory usage(cheese)off, .. I don't care.. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 76131] Existing pinned icon on Win7/8 is taskbar invalid after re-installation/update
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76131 --- Comment #42 from beil m --- Looking thru the comments, looks like this has been mentioned before for earlier versions of windoze. This comment is for win10. I place icons for each program (write, calc, draw) on the taskbar. This allows me to pin documents used often to the specific program. When performing an upgrade, old version is removed, new version is installed. When performing an upgrade, not only are the taskbar icons removed, docs pinned to the application icons are lost also. This causes two problems: 1) have to recreate the application icons on the taskbar (not a huge problem) 2) Need to re-pin docs to icon which they were associated. This is a PITA (mostly because I don't remember all docs that were pinned). Suggestion: Until this icon removing problem is resolved, to helps speed up the restore process, it would be helpful for the upgrade to spit out in a text file somewhere, listing which files were pinned to which icons. Problem: Looks like files pinned to an icon are stored in the registry (of course they are). If that were the case, nothing would ever get accomplished. You do have a controlling authority and Libre Office would fly apart. > Btw, that YOUR bug hasn't been fixed doesn't mean that we don't fix bugs. > Your claim is not only not true, it's insulting. That doesn't give much > motivation to any volunteer looking at this bug... You miss the point. This is not meant to be offensive. This is meant as a wake up to a problem. I am I.T. support to small businesses. I have spread Libre Office over two counties in my state – probably 200 by now. I am a YUGE supporter of Libre Office. I install Libre Office on all new installations. But I can’t get folks to keep Libre Office on their machines. It is simply TOO BUGGY. I have even had employees go buy their own copies and also pirate copies of M$O they were so angry over the issue. Now, part of this is that some users just can’t learn anything new, but most of it is the BUGS. And I am sorry to say this, but It is not just some customers, it is universal. I am the only one that I know of in my business that actually uses Libre Office. (But mostly I have to use Word Pro for the envelopes and tables.) You can’t print an envelope. You can manipulate tables. It is harder than the dickens to switch from portrait and landscape. Navigating the document is so annoying you wind up just using page up and down and you WILL NOT implement the begged for and pleaded for divisions tabs. When Libre Office first started, you sent out a mailer to all of us Open Office bug reporters asking for a list of long standing bugs. I had some out there for seven years. You guys fixed my list in under a month. I thought I’d died and gone to word processing heaven. Now Libre Office is back to Open Office’s attitude. This is why Open Office died. IT WAS UNUSABLE. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE Libre Office DIE IN SUCH A SIMILAR FASHION. Now you can take offence at what I just said and anyone can take offence at anything, but the spirit in which I am complaining is that I want Libre Office to become usable to the point where users stop having me remove it and stop wasting tons of money on M$O. I am a fan, not a detractor. This is a wake up call. You need to listen to what your friends have to say about you. And yes, you do fix “some” bugs. But you let the rest age out like Open Office did. > > Last thing: I don't understand the releases argument. Even if we did nothing > else bug fix reported bugs for the next few years, the release cadence would > remain the same, because releases are the only way to get the fixes to > users. If anything, the amount of work on releases would increase, because > more fixes on master would undoubtedly lead to more backports to older > branches... Okay, this is what I meant. That's the problem, I am obliged to provide a cell range object instead of a simple array of date values. Actually, what I do is to create new temporary Calc file, and insert value from another generated date list, then get the cell range to feed it to `workday`, then close that Calc file. I use Base form, so it is slower to create a Calc file and do all the stuffs I mentioned. Instead, it would be much convenient and faster if I feed `workday` directly with array of values without the need to create a cell range. It is possible to change this, but prior to changing current design of startcenter should be confirmed as desired by UX team: Looking at GTK, dark mode do not seem to be implemented completely (e.g. Sifr icons for dark mode are nearly not visible on gray background). [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133969] New: Writer 6.3.6.2 Bookmark keyboard short-cuts are ineffective due to a focus regression
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133969 Bug ID: 133969 Summary: Writer 6.3.6.2 Bookmark keyboard short-cuts are ineffective due to a focus regression Product: LibreOffice Version: 6.3.6.2 release Hardware: All OS: Windows (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: medium Component: LibreOffice Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: rock2cli...@aol.com Description: LibreOffice Writer 6.3.6.2 Bookmark keyboard short-cuts (e.g., "Go to") do not work smoothly because after selecting / highlighting a desired Bookmark, the TAB key needs to be pressed to change the focus from the Bookmark list sub-pane to the Rename button, the "G" key needs to be pressed to change focus the "Go to" button, and then the ENTER key or "G" key needs to be pressed to execute the "Go to" button. Needing to press 3 keys for the keyboard short-cut to work is a regression from Writer 6.2.8.2 32-bit where just the "G" key alone would execute the "Go to" button short-cut. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a Writer .ODT file that contains Bookmarks 2. Insert menu - Bookmark... 3. Single left Mouse-Click desired Bookmark (or TAB key four times then SPACEBAR key to highlight the first Bookmark) 4) "G" key for "Go to" button or "C" key for "Close" button keyboard short-cuts. Notice these keyboard short-cuts do NOT work. 5) TAB key (to change focus to the Rename button) - "G" key (to change focus the "Go to" button) - ENTER key or "G" key (to execute the "Go to" button). Needing to press 3 keys for the keyboard short-cut to work is a regression from Writer 6.2.8.2 32-bit where just the "G" key alone would execute the "Go to" button short-cut. Actual Results: Writer 6.3.6.2 32-bit Bookmark pane keyboard short-cuts associated with the under-lined letters of the buttons in the pane don't work due to the focus still being in the Bookmark list sub-pane. Expected Results: Bookmark pane keyboard short-cuts associated with the under-lined letters of the buttons in the pane should work like in Writer 6.2.8.2 32-bit. Here is what I suggest to best resolve the above regression, improve Writer Bookmark UX, and match MS Word's Bookmark behavior all at the same time: A) After single left Mouse-Clicking a desired Bookmark (or otherwise highlighting a desired Bookmark), change focus to the "Go to" button so that either the "G" key or ENTER key short-cuts move the document's contents to the Bookmark location. B) After bringing up the Bookmark pane (i.e., Insert menu - Bookmark...), code it so that entering the first letter of a Bookmark and then pressing the DOWN-ARROW key highlights the next Bookmark in the list which starts with that letter. Suggestion A) above would then come into play so that the "Go to" button is now in focus. C) Set the default keyboard short-cut for Bookmarks (i.e., Insert menu - Bookmark...) to be Ctrl+Shift+F5. Implementing items A) thru C) would make the typical Writer Bookmark flow the same as MS Word, and hence make the transition to LibreOffice a bit more seam-less for people that use Bookmarks to quickly navigate to desired sections of their documents. This would also be a productivity & UX improvement from how Bookmarks currently work in Writer 6.3.6.2. Thank you for considering my suggestions. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 132311] Fuzzy 'unsharp' (GDI/OpenGL) or pixelated (SKIA) checkbox
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132311 --- Comment #4 from Telesto --- Created attachment 161957 --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=161957=edit Sceenshot The 'initial' problem was about the top screenshot in the PDF.. the issue has disappeared for Skia (GDI still does this if you switch to Design mode with the checkbox checked) The pixelized versions now being anti-aliased. Now it's fuzzy (as 'expected') with such a low resolution checkbox mark (image/or what ever is used). But this has been this way since 3.3.0. So not a Skia problem -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
