[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 134425] New: UPDATING STYLES from Template -- aka the document's RELATION (link and unset link) to the template's styles and the template

2020-06-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134425

Bug ID: 134425
   Summary: UPDATING STYLES from Template -- aka the document's
RELATION (link and unset link) to the template's
styles and the template
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.2.0.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: j...@cspv.hu

I think I do understand the problem about the template's styles in relation to
the document...

 - - - - you can skip this //

Normally you would expect that changing the template's styles will come to
effect in the document's styles.. once you reopen it..

but then again... if you have changed the styles within the document, and you
change the styles in the template (intentionally or unknowingly, focusing on
something else), what should happen?

should your intentional changes to the document disappear?
or, in the case of an update, what should be kept of it?

thanks to the CSS system, however, this all doesn't really matter cause in the
end, the point is to have those styles referenced in the document...
and the values to each can be altered anytime...

BUT then again :) most writers like to see their documents as it will appear as
the finished product..

// up to here - - - -

So, it looks like there should be a TYPE of the RELATION between the document
and the template... which could be set... chosen, opt for..

I could imagine, for example a "direct linking" to a template... and optional..
and a manual TYPE...

like:

   • direct linking (the user couldn't change the styles manually, could define
a new one, though, which would right away go into the template;
also, every time the popup comes, "wanna upgrade the styles?", she can opt for
"do this automatically in the future, only notify me as it's happening")

   • optional (you can change the document's styles "locally", which is like
"inline" in the case of HTML, but get a popup "do you want to update the
styles?" whenever the template changes, and then you can opt also for "don't
show me this again", which means that the user will take care of it "manually")

   • manual (like what we have now, basically)

---

IN EITHER CASE...
in the document's PROPERTIES "window" @ "Template", not only the template but
the type of linking could be indicated..

a STYLE EDITOR

one further step could be a STYLE EDITOR window...
which already exists... but it could exist as an independent STYLE EDITING
WINDOW...

and one could open the STYLES that belong to a TEMPLATE...
like "Styles - Edit Styles" (not "Edit style", which we have already)..
Edit Styles or "Edit Style Sheet".. or "Edit Linked Style Sheet"...

it could be like Navigator...
except that it could NOT ONLY open the style sheet linked to the current
document... or documents in other windows...
but could also open ANY TEMPLATE's style sheet...

- - - thank you for developing Libreoffice and Writer! - - -

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 115439] High DPI mode: SVG icons should be preferred over PNG versions when available

2020-06-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #37 from Rizal Muttaqin  ---
Just for your information. As an icon designer and mauntainer now all icon
themes have SVG versions. So I would say its safe if in some point we reach
perfect SVG support, than the PNG version can be removed or moved to the
extension sites.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 57202] FORMATTING: Make Header/footer font size independent from scaling of the sheets

2020-06-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57202

--- Comment #7 from Yuri  ---
To me it's pretty clear and obvious that it's a bug. I agreed that this bug
report was marked as a desired feature instead of a bug report so developers
could have more time to dedicate to fixing other (more critical) bugs and take
the time to fix this. But 8 years is too long. I'm very impressed by such
delay.

Here's the most obvious reason why this is a bug: a spreadsheet contains
information, but its headers and footers contain METAINFORMATION (i.e.
information about the spreadsheet's information). E.g. the page numbers placed
in the headers or footers pretty much inform us how many pages (i.e. how much
space) the spreadsheet's information takes up.

Another clear reason why resizing a spreadsheet shouldn't resize its headers
and footers along is because international standardization organizations like
ISO specify fixed font types and sizes for headers and footers in different
document types (e.g. dissertations and other technical and academic documents).

Therefore, by default LibreOffice should NOT resize headers and footers: the
actual "desired feature" or "enhancement" is precisely providing the end-user
the ability to change such default behavior, in order to cause LibreOffice to
resize headers' and footers' font sizes along with their corresponding pages.
But for some weird reason LibreOffice by default behaves in such non-standard,
undesired way.

I'd doubt any OS convention exists on adding two extensions to a file (which
isn't something a user would normally do), thus I don't think being lenient
about this would be unreasonable.

Maybe it's related to Qt3 or Linux?

Marina reproduced the original, full testcase before I filed this.

In addition to 7.0.0.0.beta2+ from TDF's dev-builds I just reproduced
with 7.1.0.0.alpha0+

Hmm, weird, now I get the problem with fresh master on Windows.

I bibisected with Win 5.1 repo and there were some skipped commits and also a
chunk containing a range of commits. I think this is roughly the range where
the problem appeared:
https://git.libreoffice.org/core/+log/c5aeca430288057a721688975173ed764860d8b8..f19402658dce6944e82a9058a6888e488b37b336

It certainly contains commits to vba export code.

needs this really to be managed this way? Can Skia do better :-).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 132010] ENHANCEMENT: A selection tool for images in draw for easy cropping of raster images

2020-06-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132010

--- Comment #7 from Regina Henschel  ---
Let's have a technical view on the problem:
"crop" from a user point of view, can have three technical realizations:
A) The main element is a shape. The image is set as fill-image. There exist
several attributes to determine zoom and section of the image.
B) The main element is an image. It has an associated crop-polygon.
C) The main element is an image. It has a clip-rectangle.

B) and C) can be combined.

A) That is already possible in all modules. It corresponds roughly to the tool
"crop to shape" in MS Office. The UI in LibreOffice is the area-dialog, its
Bitmap part is terrible.
When intersect a shape with an image, the current default is "stretch". I
think, that a different default, which keeps the image size, would be better.

B) That is currently only available in Writer. It needs a lot of points to get
a rounded outline, but a rectangular outline is easy. The object has still its
original size, only that parts are hidden. That conflicts with the restricted
canvas in Writer when moving the object.

C) That is the way "crop" is done in LibreOffice in all modules. The
clip-region is always rectangular. Using the handles or entering numeric
values, both require many steps. Determine the area by dragging a rectangle
would indeed be a useful tool.
CSS uses a clip-path, including curves, but that is not yet specified in ODF.
It is worth implementing this CSS feature and bringing it to ODF, because it is
needed for SVG anyway and would be better than extending B) to Draw /Impress.

So I would go with the mentioned improvements for A and C.

That MS support page meanwhile gives 404.

What does a current Excel actually do for negative height/width arguments? I'd
presume error because
https://support.office.com/en-US/article/OFFSET-function-C8DE19AE-DD79-4B9B-A14E-B4D906D11B66
says "must be a positive number" for both.

That is congruent with ODFF
https://docs.oasis-open.org/office/OpenDocument/v1.3/cs01/part4-formula/OpenDocument-v1.3-cs01-part4-formula.html#OFFSET
"Constraints: NewWidth > 0; NewHeight > 0".

So we should raise an error.

> significant. I am not. :-)

I blindly copy/pasted the promotion text of SQLite... :-). I'm actually more
interested: *The application only has to load the data it needs, rather than
reading the entire file and holding a complete parse in memory.*

Ever monitored how often the xcu is accessed. It's an immense amount if times
(say 1000) times a day. File History/ Color Picker color/ Window/ toolbar
position and size. Toolbar items. On every time selecting an item in draw
(sidebar). A 'normal' xcu should be around 1 MB.. But with extensions and lots
of modifications and stuff .. 2/3 MB maybe

So 1000 MB of read/writes in a single session should be to abnormal.

--
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/145837/registrymodificationsxcu-writing-to-disk-excessively/

"We encountered same issue. about 200 PC users on other machiens with roaming
profile have this file "registrymodifications.xcu" constantly writing and
dumping our IO. Is there a way to make disable writing to this file in
configuration of Libre ? or editing some option in "registrymodifications.xcu"
?"

--

So not into really interested in the performance gain .. more like a being a
bit nicer to SSD's (even if the have technical read/write life time; which
maybe not to often hit (of course depending on SSD size etc)

However, proofing if SQLite would useful or not is far beyond my capability's I
can only assume, this based on other applications using this for storing
profile stuff. Nor can I asses the benefit of this in a local / or roaming
setup etc. Nor can I estimate complexity to code this kind of thing. Or if this
could qualify as GSOC project for example.

So if the consensus within the (base) development team is, that this waste of
resource/ not worth the effort etc, please close. If the common dev opinion is
that it would make some sense to further investigate, leave it open..

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133836] Autofilter enables deselect items automatically when typing a search

Great - thanks Caolán! Would be a nice easy hack.

I suppose that it's useful to keep the best of the two worlds: the changes
proposed in this issue do not exclude a special handling of Enter when typing
the filter, so that in this specific case, *Enter pressed in the filter box*
would reset it all, not the fact of typing characters into the box.

Following up on printer model identifications in comment 16: The problem also
occurred on a Xerox AltaLink C8045 multifunction printer, probably newly
installed, at a Staples store, when printing from a new PDF for text in DejaVu
Serif 8pt prepared in LO Writer. The problem is not visible in the PDF even at
200% of size viewed in my laptop. It is very visible in Xerox's preview at the
printer, showing a streak that probably descended (from my recollection) 10-20
points. It is a little visible, as a distorted "M" on the paper output
resulting from the same session in which I viewed the preview.

   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.0.0.0.beta1+
  Hardware: All

Status: UNCONFIRMED

  Severity: normal

Created attachment 162548

Minimized presentation

This is an excerpt of a bigger presentation; it still exhibits the reported
issue for me.

How to reproduce:

 1. Open presentation

 2. Observe how the slides in the slide pane both appear empty (= white only).

 3. Invoke presentation mode

 4. Observe how slides are shown as black only.

Both 2 and 4 probably are manifestations of the same issue.

Also seen with a recent 7.1 alpha.

Regression from 6.4.4.2 which only exhibits issue 4, not issue 2.

--- Comment #13 from Mike Kaganski  ---
No objections against any extensions. But I highly doubt practical usefulness
of this; all concerns in comment 1 are valid; and everything mentioned e.g. in
comment 4 (e.g., styles with transparent paragraph background) might turn out
to be useful. Also same formatting would become same style, while in practice,
it's often that several different styles have the same formatting, and serve as
logical tags.

I seriously propose to spend more time instead in a concept of UI that would
address the preamble in comment 0:

> Because the UI of LibreOffice is enforcing the user to use direct formatting
> (aka hard formatting) instead of styles

... I want to continue the phrase: "It would be useful to have a Muffin mode
that doesn't suffer from this".

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 133836] Autofilter enables deselect items automatically when typing a search

2020-06-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=133836

--- Comment #14 from Caolán McNamara  ---
re comment #11, not one for me. But a brief competitive comparison suggests
that making the filter not auto-toggle on/off and instead require an explicit
enter/return/activate in the search box to toggle on/off the shown rows (which
would mean that enter in that search box no longer closes the dialog) is a
plausible alternative implementation

sc/source/ui/cctrl/checklistmenu.cxx "EdActivateHdl" is the activate handler
for the search box, "EdModifyHdl" is the modify handler. A quick looks suggests
that the ShowCheckEntry calls in there are toggling the rows on/off
automatically if they match/don't match the filter. There is a complicated date
mode too which needs to be tested if someone takes this on.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 130991] Toolbar arrows too large on 200% scaling

2020-06-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130991

--- Comment #14 from Jan-Marek Glogowski  ---
So I had a look into this, and it's no easy hack. While the arrow now scales,
the assigned drop-down-arrow rectangle doesn't. You can see this in the
attached images, where the arrow is painted out-of-bounds and overlaps with
other widgets. In fact the reported size to the native painting code is always
11px, the TB_DROPDOWNARROWWIDTH. If you highlight the button with the mouse,
you'll see the too small dividing line between the button and the
drop-down-arrow.

This is also visible in my attached images of bug 134054, but that had in
addition a broken implementation of the native button sizing code in the Qt5
VCL backend.

Now interestingly there is some IOS code there, which probably needs some
additional fixup now:

-longnDropDownArrowWidth = TB_DROPDOWNARROWWIDTH;
+longnDropDownArrowWidth = TB_DROPDOWNARROWWIDTH *
fScaleFactor;
#ifdef IOS
nDropDownArrowWidth *= 3;
#endif

And I don't know if any platform code works around this problem in the VCL
plugin. IMHO that IOS code should be removed too, but since I don't know
anything about IOS, and interested party has to review the (multiple) patches.

Not actually what I meant (as i used Raster in the case). Maybe I should picked
another file.. anyhow.. This is more about redrawing everything after a screen
change (context depend toolbar, resizing of the main window (in windowed mode),
resizing panels etc)..

Not if a full redraw could be prevented, or somewhat reduced.. would be nice,
but nothing critical/major..

@Miklos
Any opinion if this should lingering in the bug tracker.. else close it as
wontfix or pick some other appropriate status.. As I'm not able to implement
this anyhow. Lacking the programming skills required or more precise: can't
code.

However using a plaintext xcu isn't my first choice with today standards, I
think. Especially when written so often. But of course easier to say than
change..

So I did a bibisect in the 6.4 repo and the bug was introduced by

commit adbd20017ba9ac4cb2e20195f715904d9b11bc17
Author: Jan-Marek Glogowski
Date:   Mon Nov 25 14:08:44 2019 +

tdf#126607 Qt5 activate window before setFocus

On master it was later "fixed" by

commit 3afc718eddcd81232392d46fccc24b8ec626c8df
Author: Caolán McNamara
Date:   Tue Jan 14 10:06:30 2020 +

rework PageSizePopup to be a PopupWindowController

So I can just conclude, that the focus handling in the Qt5 VCL is still wrong
:-(

I originally changed

 else if ((nFlags & SalFrameToTop::GrabFocus) || (nFlags &
SalFrameToTop::GrabFocusOnly))
-m_pQWidget->setFocus();
+{
+pWidget->activateWindow();
+pWidget->setFocus();
+}

but maybe the correct focus handling should be:

 else if ((nFlags & SalFrameToTop::GrabFocus) || (nFlags &
SalFrameToTop::GrabFocusOnly))
 {
-pWidget->activateWindow();
+if (!(nFlags & SalFrameToTop::GrabFocusOnly))
+pWidget->activateWindow();
 pWidget->setFocus();
 }

Problem is, I can't currently test this on master, because the "fix" is not
revertable. And the original bug 126607 doesn't happen anymore, because it
seems like the search toolbar isn't detachable anymore.

Guess I have to free some 30GB for a new 6-4 build to test my assumption...

Not sure if this fully in line with Eike his comment..
"Or rather, it could in this one special case only if the target range was
empty."

OTOH a lot of effort, for something trivial..

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 111201] Typed file extension should overwrite filetype set in dialog

--- Comment #14 from Mike Kaganski  ---
(In reply to Aron Budea from comment #13)

I suppose that we must try hard to follow OS/environment conventions as much as
we can. And unless we use our own file dialogs, the dialogs provided by shell
must behave just as in other applications (or rather as shell designers
intended them to behave). On Windows, that is according to how MS intends it;
KDE or Gnome have own vision... I suppose that any change in the behaviour of
such things to be custom to LO is bad.

Wait, for these controls on all Draw shape objects, their Text... dialog, Text
tab, Custom Shape text--doesn't the outcome of 'Word wrap text in shape'
interact with 'Resize shape to fit text' control?

Both are disabled by default for new draw shape text.

I'd say this is more of a convenience feature than being "smart enough." You're
entering a file name already, and you could just type a few more characters
instead of opening the dropdown, finding the entry you're looking for and
clicking on it.

Then again, surely there'd be things to keep in mind, like prominently
notifying the user in what format the file is actually saved in.
