I don't know if it helps, or is related, but this version of Writer also
regularly red-underlines words as if they're spelled wrongly, because you
edited them.

I've submitted a separate bug report for that (147335).

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 147335] New: Wrong spelling suggestions

2022-02-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147335

Bug ID: 147335
   Summary: Wrong spelling suggestions
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.0.5.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: luke.kend...@gmail.com

Created attachment 178183
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=178183=edit
Screen shot showing the spelling suggestions

This version of Writer regularly "red underlines" words as if they're spelled
wrongly, because you edited them.

This red underlining persists.

This only occurs if you select part of a word and type over it to change it to
another. It seems the word is being marked as wrong while it's incomplete, and
left marked as a misspelling even when the edit is finished and the word is now
correct and complete.

This does not happen for every edit, but it happens frequently.

Examples on my current page are the words "assumed" and "survived".

If I right-click on the assumed, it offers only the suggestion "unassuming".
For "survived" it offers the correction "survived" and some others: see
attached screenshot showing that the suggested spelling for "survived" is
"survived": i.e. it's wrongly marked as incorrect.

On earlier pages, some other words incorrectly flagged are:
detected
positioning
she'd
Made
favorite

Nor does it mark a word as correct if I manually edit it from incorrect to
correct for the document language. (An example is deleting the "u" from UK
"favourite" to make the US "favorite".)

Oh, wow:

I had the word "savoured" and instead of deleting the "u" I right-clicked and
selected "savored". Writer replaced the word "savoured" by "savoredsavored"!

Same for changing "calibre" to US spelling: it produced "calibercaliber".

Looks like spelling in this version has some problems.

It was a few years ago, but it would have just been a blank new file, with the
image and text added to make a reusable letter head. When created, it would
have used the attached template but I removed the footer (which held a filename
field) and probably changed the margins. I set the template up for someone else
and forgot to deactivate it on my machine. I mention the template since I
noticed it was referenced in the 'Properties', even thought the actual template
file is no longer on my system. I was able to remove the template by editing
the meta.xml file and removing the "" tag. (It still had the
old Windows path name for the .ott file). I have a bunch of older documents
that have the reference to the template but they open fine on the new OS with
no warnings. I have not noticed this bug with any of them.

Also perhaps related: I just had a brief period in which the displayed text did
not match the text as I edited it. I had the text:

but be at his office at six fifteen a.m – he’d been quite precise – about the
time, and about waiting to be called in.

I wanted to break the sentence, to create:

but be at his office at six fifteen a.m. He’d been quite precise – about the
time, and about waiting to be called in.

But several times, when I put the insertion point after the 'm' in 'a.m', and
selected from there up to and including the 'H' of 'He', then typed a period
and two spaces, what resulted was the text:

but be at his office at six fifteen a.m .He’d been quite precise – about the
time, and about waiting to be called in.

Soon after that, I was unable to sweep or otherwise select a block of text: the
selection did not highlight. I had to click away into another window and then
back again, when suddenly the text I'd selected appeared highlighted.

This was in the MATE desktop. Hope these clues might help.

Hello,

LibreOffice is still using the following dependency

https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.apache.ant/ant-apache-log4j/1.10.9

that has some known vulnerability issues from its dependencies, so no direct
issues.

If I remove it, will LibreOffice continue to work properly? Should remove its
dependencies too? Is there any way to use another logger like logback?

Thanks

Description:
Sheet styles are not inherited.
If the forces of the sheets are removed by hand, they are created by
themselves.
If you select multiple sheet styles, for example to set fields, then the change
applies to only one sheet style.
I can't change the headers and footers for several sheets at once: specify that
the header contains the name of the sheet, and the bottom contains the page
number and that a font is used for the headers and footers.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create a new book
2.Add multiple sheets
3.press f11
4.play with style settings
5.

Actual Results:
each sheet has its own style

Expected Results:
It is desirable to be able to make a hierarchy of styles, inherit
characteristics. Assign a previously created style to the selected sheet.

Reproducible: Always

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 147332] Writer crashed, didn't recover document, lost work

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147332

I just remembered another really weird error that occurred in the minutes
leading up to the crash.
I had inserted a clause into a sentence before an apostrophe, and all the words
appeared in the correct place, but all the spaces between the words had
appeared in front of the apostrophe, I noticed when I looked up at the screen.
Something like:
'What an idiot', she thought.
-->
'What an idiot.Ishoulddosomethingaboutit. '
so I had to manually delete the excess spaces and insert them where I had typed
them originally:
'What an idiot. I should do something about it.'

I hadn't noticed any excessive load on the machine, though it's possible it had
been busy.

I was astonished that such a result was possible. I can't imagine how keyboard
input is handled, to allow that as a possibility. I've never seen it in any
program ever, before this. But it had happened only a few minutes before the
crash.

It reminded me of a bug in Writer (which I think is now fixed), in which text
typed when the machine was under heavy load would be inserted in apparently
random order into the document. But that applied to all characters, not just
the spaces.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major

 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: luke.kend...@gmail.com

I was editing a document of about 16,000 words (so, relatively short).
I had just moved a word into the wrong place (sloppy mousing dropped the word
on the line below where I wanted it), so I moved the still-highlighted word
where I really wanted it.
A few seconds later when I double clicked on the word again, the text changed
to display other parts of the sentence. When I deselected the word, the wrong
text disappeared and the text as I expected it to look, was displayed
correctly.
I did a Ctrl-S to save and Writer immediately crashed, saying a fault had
occurred and my documents would be recovered.
All the documents I had open that I had not recently changed were recovered:
Writer simply said that recovery had failed on the document I'd been working
on.
None of my edits had been saved, so I lost about 30 mins of careful work and
creative adjustments.
I'm also disappointed that there was no auto bug report prepared for the crash.
If I can't rely on Writer not to lose work, I'll have to stop using it.
Reliability is a critical feature.

I appreciate that this bug report is probably inadequate to reproduce the bug,
but felt I should report the crash and data loss. Perhaps it relates to
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138830 ?

tdf#142404 sw compat layout: ignore blank size only on one-liners

Seems to be the likely fix. Before this the 3 columns were rendered as well
(unlike in the original report), but started at the bottom of the first page
and they mostly fell between the two.

But still not perfect:
- Top left and right colored squares are grouped shapes, appearing below the
pages top margin. In Word they have negative margin so the top of the group is
not visible. Writer does not seem to support negative margin for grouped
shapes.
- First page center column the blue, centered non-bulleted "Test document"
texts are losing their style setting inside a grouped shape so they are not
blue and left aligned in Writer
(these would be better split out as individual bugs with minimal examples)

Are you sure it's supposed to do that?

Seems NUMBERVALUE it's only about numbers, not dates or dates-time, and looks
that the second parameter it's for the thousand's separator.

DATETIME and VALUE, do that, but those have local dependency without options.

Please see

I note the one person who posted their CPU flags here did not have avx. I don't
get the crash but I have avx although not avx2.

I presume the intention was to enable the use of avx(2) if available, but maybe
the fallback isn't working if it's not.

cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep avx will output the flags line if one of these flags
is present. If not it might output nothing. Does the crash co-relate with a nil
output?

Yes! And removing it stops the reported behaviour.

I assume this is still a bug though. The networked volume isn't mounted, (and
I can't for the moment mount it - which I'm supposing would also fix the
problem). The whole thing shouldn't hang, should it? I'm not trying to write
to that volume.

Thanks Alex.

   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.2.3.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: marcel1...@gmail.com

Description:
LibreOffice 7.2.3.2 on Void Linux

When I make a header and turn it on, the header works as expected.

However, when I save, close, and then re-open the file, the header is turned
off.

The text of the header is still there, but I have to re-enable it every time I
open the file.

It appears to be similar to a previous bug (144940)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144940

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a header and turn it on.
2. Save the file and close it.
3. Open the file.
4. Do print preview or print the file
5. The header is turned off.

Actual Results:
The header is turned off when a file is opened.

Expected Results:
The header should remain on when the file is reopened when it was saved with
the header turned on.

Reproducible: Always

LibreOffice Calc Sort Behaviour comparison

When a subset of cells are sorted by the same criteria, a user should expect to
see the same result in the user selected subset of cells compared to the result
of having the superset of cells sorted. If the sort range include at least one
cell with user entered characters in a column when "Include formats" is
selected in the Options, everything in that row are moved by the sort including
any formatting such as cell colour in an otherwise empty cell.

This was the behaviour in 4.2.8 and earlier. And in fact, this is also the
behaviour where the formatting only row is NOT the left-most or right-most
column selected. Where the formatting only row is left most or right most, that
left-most or right-most column with formatting only is not sorted along with
the rest of the selected range.

The problem seems to have vanished a day or two after I posted this bug report

how I went about moving the sidebar (just dragging it to the other side of the
screen or undocking it and then moving it to the the other side of the screen).
I tried doing a soft reset followed by a hard system shut down, but neither
worked.

There was another issue that was even more problematic that I didn't mention in
the initial bug report, and that is that after I undocked the sidebar, I
couldn't get the docking feature to work even temporarily but once every eight
or ten attempts because when I moved the sidebar to its new location, it would
not dock (instead it would just float). I could move the sidebar all the way
until it was practically off the screen, but it would not pop into place as
usual. I tried everything I could think of, but it only occasionally docked --
but then would not remember the new location. But, as I mentioned at the top,
it seems to be working fine now. I just had three Microsoft updates, but that
is after the fact. I usually only get the daily security updates, which I
wouldn't think would have any effect on this, but something obviously went
wrong for a couple days before self-correcting (fingers crossed).

Yes, but this behavior is not the problem described by the bug reporter. So it
has nothing to do in this bug report.

Best regards. JBF

That is possible - I use the AppImage from
www.libreoffice.org/download/appimage, I do not have a *.deb or distribution
package of LO installed.

Just to be sure:
Did you open a shell as normal user and enter

export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen

and then from the same shell start LibreOffice with (I have to guess for your
system)

PATH/TO/YOUR/soffice.bin or PATH/TO/YOUR/swriter
