[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149885] Equation Editor (Math tool) needs explanation for adding exponents that are non-alpha or non-numeric

2022-07-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149885

(In reply to Richard England from comment #0)
> Expected Results:
> description of using non-numeric non-alpha characters should be available

One opens LibreOffice help [1], clicks on "Formulas (Math)" in Contents (to the
right), "General Information and Usert Interface Usage" (the first sub-item),
and "Welcome to the LibreOffice Math Help" - i.e., simply opens the very first
Math help page. The page basically gives you some links to the following
reading - and the very first link is: "Instructions for Using LibreOffice
Math", under which there is "Entering Text" [2]. Quoting it:

> How to enter direct text strings that do not get interpreted?
> Some text strings get interpreted as operators automatically. Sometimes this
> is
> not what you want. If you want to write W* (a letter with a superscripted
> asterisk), the asterisk will be interpreted as a multiplication operator.
> Enclose the direct text within double quotes or add spaceholders.

Beyond the help (available at F1 keypress), there is also Documentation page
[3] available on the LibreOffice website, where you can find Math Guide [4]
with discussion of topics like "Unpaired brackets", "Formulas over multiple
lines", "Markup language characters as normal characters" and other
not-straightforward and corner cases.

There's also FAQ [5], with topics like "How do I get * as a superscript? Using
x^* produces an error" [6] and "How do I use a keyword like in as a variable
name" [7].

And then, there is https://ask.libreoffice.org/, with already answered
questions like "In equation mode, how to use - sign in the superscript" [8],
appearing as the first result for search like "math minus superscript".

Is this bug solved?

Skia is a library that is added to LibreOffice during build, and comes bundled

Really? Well, I never tested this file in MS Word, so I'll take your word for
it.

> Adding text in LO is setting caption. And that's what creates a problem in
> LO, MSO cannot open saved file at all.

That's actually pretty interesting. I just now looked at those alleged text
fields in both your file and in my original one in LibreOffice, and yes, they
are in fact images. I looked further into it, and now I'm thinking they are
AutoShapes (or just a Basic Shape in LibreOffice) or something like them
because I could still add text to the center of them, just like an AutoShape.

How I was able to type text in those things was through double-clicking the
shape, then a text cursor appeared and I was able to type something in there.

In any case, LibreOffice seems to treat the text as a caption. Good to know!

1. Create a new Writer document

Indeed the minus operator is unary and using it requires the curly brackets as
you mentioned.

Alternatively, you could have entered the minus sign as text:

lim from{x %tendto 6 sup "-" } { frac 2 (x-6)sup 3 }

Or with an em dash
lim from{x %tendto 6 sup "—" } { frac 2 (x-6)sup 3 }

Or using a unicode symbol (here en dash)
lim from{x %tendto 6 sup %Ux2013 } { frac 2 (x-6)sup 3 }

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149885] New: Equation Editor (Math tool) needs explanation for adding exponents that are non-alpha or non-numeric

2022-07-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149885

Bug ID: 149885
Summary: Equation Editor (Math tool) needs explanation for
adding exponents that are non-alpha or non-numeric
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.3.0.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Formula Editor
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: rlengl...@gmail.com

Description:
When creating an equation for Writer using the Math tool, it was required to
add a "-" (minus sign) as a free standing exponent. Not as a negative value,
just a lone minus sign. An example can be created using the following limit
equation as an example:

  lim from{x %tendto 6 sup -{} } { frac 2 (x-6)sup 3 }

Note the "6 sup -{}". The empty {} is required or the equation editor will
expect a value, like -x or -5 or some unary operator. The {} appeases the robot
and allows the free standing "-" to appear. (The meaning is the limit as x
approaches 6 from the negative side.)

An hour long search and trial and error session by two people was required
before we stumbled on this solution. It might save the next person at least
that long to figure this out.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. See description

Actual Results:
error occurs when a stand alone - is attempted

Expected Results:
description of using non-numeric non-alpha characters should be available

Reproducible: Always

This is a problem of MULTIPLE.OPERATIONS() (TableOp) accessing the recursion in
column A (through the A$1 or A$255 or A$401 or A$402 "replacements"). The
maximum recursion limit is 400 after which further blocks of recursions are
assembled in reverse (logically forward) order and if completed all cells are
iterated. In a TableOp scenario this seems to prematurely end, hence it works
until A$401 but not from A$402 on.
Needs further investigation.

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I could reproduce this
too.
Since it's an important file, I hope you got backup. I don't know at all how to
to debug xslt of 9000 lines on an xml file of 14MB.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149883] New: Formatting - Dimension Lines Text Upside down

2022-07-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149883

Bug ID: 149883
Summary: Formatting - Dimension Lines Text Upside down
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.2.7.2 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Draw
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: iavs.le...@gmail.com

Created attachment 181144
  --> https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=181144=edit
A few dimension lines to test

Actual results:
When a dimension line is more than 90° and less than 135°, and more than 270°
and less than 315° (as a backslash) the text (if parallel to line) is upside
down.

Expected results:
Dimension lines text must be readed from left to right (in RTL context),
otherwise (at 90° and 270°) from bottom to top.

May an architect or engineer correct me about the proper angle limits (see ISO
129-1:2004(E) 5.6.2).

No matter the unit of measurement set by default in Draw or Writer, result of
pasting a dimension line from Draw to Writer is in mm.
Pasting in Draw will get the unit of measurement set by default.

Can't reproduce. If I save the "actual Macro" attachment, which is UTF-8, as
file, open it in an editor displaying it fine, and copy-paste it into Calc's
BASIC editor (or import it there as BASIC file), save the document, reload it,
open the BASIC editor again it's still fine.

Probably the original .xlsm files have the macros encoded in some text encoding
other than UTF-8, i.e some code page like Windows-1252 or so. Please attach
such sample file.

Well, it's not so simple. These are not text fields at all. They are pictures
in MSO. So text cannot be entered there.
Adding text in LO is setting caption. And that's what creates a problem in LO,
MSO cannot open saved file at all.

An error occurred during opening the file in LO:
SAXException: [word/document.xml line 20]: Namespace prefix pic on bodyPr is
not defined

Since it's 16 pages DOCX, I attach here 1 page created in MSO.
LO anchors "As Char" so fileopen doesn't look nice. There are other bugs on
this.

> Joanmarie, can you give us some hints as to what the workaround actually
> does? What do you think might be causing this? A few of us have tried to
> reproduce the issue, but we just aren't having much luck.

In default.py, onCaretMoved checks to see if the object firing the caret-moved
event exposes STATE_SHOWING. If STATE_SHOWING is absent, then that event is
ignored because we only want to (potentially) present the new caret location if
the user is in that text object. And if the thing isn't SHOWING, presumably the
user is not in that text object.

The workaround is the addition of presentEventFromNonShowingObject, which
allows scripts to tell the default script that even though something isn't
SHOWING, the caret moved event might still be worthy of presentation. The
default implementation of presentEventFromNonShowingObject returns False. The
LO script's implementation unconditionally returns True.

As for what I think might be causing this on the LO side of things, my guess
would be either the logic which determines if a paragraph is SHOWING and/or the
logic which updates (via a state-changed accessibility event) the SHOWING state
(e.g. when something is scrolled into or out of view).

As for initial report, it's is NotABug.
Because LO exports properly setting restrictions, can be seen with other PDF
readers: Adobe, X-change, Master PDF.
I don't have Acrobat but I see that it's similar for some other programs that
can make PDF restricted content.
Just some don't obey that, here is reported Okular, I confirm for Xreader. This
bug should be reported to them.

As for comment 2, that's a different issue, which is actually not a bug,
because PDF security is not to be trusted to.

Commit 33f6848dc5abe71471b08dc6a8946feaa2d75ffc has the necessary code pointers
for the technical part of the proposal from comment 7.
DetectAndMarkMissingDictionaries introduced there could be expanded to build a
list of missing dictionaries instead of simply setting a flag.

I hope that for the UI part, Heiko could provide some code pointers (if this is
decided to be implemented, of course).

Additional proposal (*might* be alternative, or maybe require a separate issue
- please decide yourself):

The indication could possibly be in the spell check *dialog*, when the spell
check completes, there could appear an infobar (similar to the colored bands at
some places where we show input errors, but with something more neutral than
red), telling that some text used languages that have no dictionary installed.
The list could be available e.g. as an expandable section with a list, or
something.

The spell dialog is a *proper* place for (moderately intrusive) things like
infobars for this, because using it explicitly shows user's intention to check
spelling; additionally, the operation requires parsing the whole text and
analyzing available dictionaries, so in the end, all the information is
available.

As said, *maybe* we could limit this issue to what I propose here, or have it
independently.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 149708] DOCX Track Changes: Writer does not export change tracking of the paragraph mark of an inserted list item (see Comment 2)

2022-07-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Commit description:

tdf#149708 sw_redlinenum DOCX export: track inserted list items

Change tracking of the paragraph mark of an inserted list item
wasn't exported. I.e. a new list item was exported as an old
empty list item with new tracked text content. It was loaded
with bad actual/original numbering, and rejection of the
incomplete insertion left an empty list item in the list instead
of removing that list item completely.

Note: the problem was inherited from OOo.
