Bug ID: 155572
Summary: Reloading presentation created with Focus template
leaks memory leaks more memory every time
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 5.3 all versions
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: LibreOffice
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: wasavah...@onlcool.com

Description:
Quite likely a dupe of already reported memory leaks (most likely bug 92482)
but not 100% sure. So created a new one.

Steps to Reproduce:
The easiest why is to monitor memory usage (for example with Process Explorer)
while following the steps. The intention is to increase the working set step by
step while manipulating (multiple) document (and letting some of the increase
stick). Repeating the exact same steps over and over doesn't seem to work.
Using all sorts of different documents helps.

1. Open a random file from start Center
https://www.iso.org/files/live/sites/isoorg/files/archive/ppt/en/ims-alerts_9001_14001_overview.ppt
2. Select all slides
3. Change the template (use all available)
4. Close the file (grey cross -> going back to Start Center)

Impress
1. Create Impress Document -> Choose a template
2. Add slides (around 100)
3. Select All of them. Choose switch to different templates (all available)
4. Scroll a bit around in the slide panel
5. Save the file.
6. Close the file (grey cross -> going back to Start Center)

Writer
1. Open a document http://igne.us/Smokie1.odt (from start center0
2. Select all content
3. Play with the formatting (for example everything bold/underlined/all sorts
of color highlighted
4. Save the file
6. Close the file (grey cross -> going back to Start Center)

Calc
1. Open a new spreadsheet
2. Select All Cells
3. Change the background color
4. Close the document

5. Open a new spreadsheet
6. Add a shape
7. Change the area to Hatching and select one
8. Close the document

Actual Results:
Memory usage is steadily increasing

Expected Results:
Memory should stay stable

Reproducible: Always

steadily increase)

My printer is able to handle paper up to about 13 inches across. If I select
tabloid page side (11x17), the page prints correctly. I wondered if this was
because the printer cannot print 17 inches across a page. I also tried a legal
size page - failed on that one even though 14 inches is too wide for my
printer. I have no idea why tabloid portrait would print correctly but both
legal and letter sizes do not.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 155564] New: FILEOPEN: Impress opens first file slowly

2023-05-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155564

Bug ID: 155564
Summary: FILEOPEN: Impress opens first file slowly
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.5.3.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Impress
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: gabriel.h.br...@gmail.com

Description:
After a recent update from 7.5.2 to 7.5.3 using Impress to open ODP files (even
new empty/blank ones) takes about 30 seconds up from about 1-2 seconds.

When attempting to open an ODP file directly (and Impress not already running):
- a blank X11 window opens containing only the letter "L" in the upper left
corner
- after 30 seconds Impress and the file contents appear and work as normal.

When opening LibreOffice itself the "splash" screen with all the LibreOffice
apps and recent files opens in a few seconds, but then clicking a recent ODP
file takes about 30 seconds to open.

If any ODP files are already open in Impress, then further ODP files open
almost instantly (so the 30 second issue only applies to the first file).

The problem persists even with combinations of --safe-mode and
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen, and no warnings or errors are given in the terminal.

Steps to Reproduce:
Open any ODP file from terminal or from any other program (graphical file
manager, etc.) while no other files open in Impress.

Actual Results:
If Impress is not already running, it shows a blank window for about 30 seconds
and then opens the file and works as normal. If other ODP files are already
open, the file opens almost instantly.
[this is independent of file contents or file size]

Expected Results:
All reasonably sized files should open in less than 5 seconds.

Reproducible: Always

In my latest test as per the request of comment 3 - The physical page was
printed portrait on a sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper HOWEVER, In order to get this
correctly orientated page the paper was inserted into the printer sideways,
that is, the paper was inserted so that it is wider than it is long (11 inches
wide and 8.5 inches long). The Canon iX6820 is capable of handling tabloid

In short - no change, problem persists as of 7.5

In response to your request, my test efforts were with version 7.5.0.0.alph1,
which is the first [oldest] version to introduce this problem. Prior to
testing, I set aside everything in ~.config/libreoffice/4 by renaming it. I
noticed that 7.5.0.0.alph1 was using ~/user instead. I also renamed ~/user.
With this done, libreoffice was started with a fresh profile. The problem was
no different.

The problem here is wrapping around multiple flies. MSO doesn't wrap the empty
paragraphs until AFTER the big SunAir picture, while LO wraps them in front of
the SunAir picture. (Removing the SunAir picture in MS Word causes a
similar-looking layout to LO.)

However, these are anchored to DIFFERENT PARAGRAPHS. So any little thing will
throw it off. Changing the default font to Verdana in Word changes things.
Likely it is a CR formatting problem (although I don't notice anything...).

Removing one empty paragraph before Menu Fichier fixes everything for example.

These tables are now floating due to 7.6 work.
Unfortunately they are now piled on top of each other.

A couple of one-row tables are there which are not floating. They add some
"structure" to the document. I guess they don't wrap around flies, and thus
have one in between files becomes a new "paragraph" for the floating table to
align to.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. As a document author, I may want to
protect

* just field values, not other content (unlikely, but maybe there's a use case
for this);
* all content other than field values (very common);
* both (somewhat common I guess, conditioned on having fields at all).

How, in your opinion, should each of these happen?

- Can you please test in safe mode with Help > Restart in Safe Mode, to see if
the issue persists?
- Do you know which is the last LO version that worked as expected?

To be clear:
- your document page style is in landscape orientation
- the orientation setting in the print dialog is landscape
- however, the preview in the print dialog remains in portrait orientation
(with contents not fitting on the page)
- the paper print comes out just like on the preview

Is that correct?

I tried following the steps in:

Version: 7.5.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 9f56dff12ba03b9acd7730a5a481eea045e468f3
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

... but couldn't as "Advanced Settings" was greyed out in the Edit > Database
menu.

Can you please provide more precise, sequential steps, Robert?
And test in 7.5 as well to see if the situation is the same.
Thank you!

The frames didn't exist in OOo.
It actually looked perfect in 3.6, but broke in 4.0, somewhere in the range

Judging from the many websites talking about this issue for any app on macOS, I
agree this should be closed as "not our bug".
Thanks Bogdan.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 153749] Allow entering textbox edit mode with single click instead of double-click

My 2 cents:

I oppose changing the global default; oppose extending quick-edit-mode to
charts based on comments above; but perhaps extending it to other textboxes in
Calc and Write makes sense at least for better consistency.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 155494] Cursor goes beyond margins when typing spaces at the end of a line

2023-05-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=155494

justified alignment means text are from left margin to right margin... so,
spaces after last letter MUST be on the margin.

dropping spaces to new line wont help here.. only if we break the justified
alignment.. but i bet we dont want to do that... justified alignment is a
commonly used good feature.
(justified is not the only problem, but seemed easy to explain)

If we accept spaces on margin.. we can choose to
A) hide all those spaces..
B) try to show all spaces
C) try to show some spaces.. and maybe have some tricks

A) all spaces was hidden before my commit...
pro: there was nothing to argue about, if the space/cursor is over the margin
or the page, or cell border...
con: we dont have a chance to find extra spaces if that is a problem.. + cursor
movement problems

B) showing all spaces is impossible normally .. if i insert 1 million spaces..
?! ... would we make a scrollbar 1 times wider as the page itself?! :)

C) showing some spaces is what i tried to achieve...
pro: we can see some extra spaces, and may move on them ...
practically we can eliminate A) con part for a limited amount of spaces... in
default case it is about 20 space
con: after the limited amount of spaces it will have some problems... based on
what we do after it..

i did not do much after it .. because:
1) That was the fastest way :) (doing nothing :) )
However i handled a few special cases i found.. like if you put an image into
the text... i made sure the cursor wont be displayed under/after the image
2) naively i thought having ~100 meaningless spaces is a so rare case, that we
could accept that is a bit ugly , and suggest to delete some of them.. :)
3) There is many special cases that should be handled, and i dont even know
every case... if you found 1 and report it.. someone may fix that case..

But dont forget.. we can mix A) and C) in different cases or based on an
option.. like a toggle button to show spaces or not... or whatever...

I think we should rather analyze the special cases where and what is the
problem.. and set the limitation based on that...

For example .. i thought having cursor + extra spaces go from margin only
untill the page end .. would be better... then it would be like A) with a bit
of extension.. that is will work for like 20 spaces better

it is good that someone mentioned that in tables it is a bigger problem..
we should fix it... we could disable this behaviour there.. and fallback to A)
case... i think

Or if someone would find a common solution.. where not to display or move the
cursor.. / display the spaces... but im not sure if we could find a common
solution..

Selection is just an other special case i did not fixed because of 1) .. :)
but if i have to fix all related problems while i fix a bug... then i wont be
able to fix any complex problems. :)

Bug 137879 asks for the same thing, but for temporary files - which may not be
empty nor read-only. Should we unify the two bugs (expanding the scope of this
one and marking bug 137879 as a dupe), or keep them separate?

Bug 57414 is about read-only files; this is about temporary files. While the
two bugs are related, this is not a dupe. If you want to expand the scope of
57414 to also cover temporary files, then I would be ok with resolving this one
as a dupe.
