The warning is likely innocent; and the two modes are expected. Mostly we need
COINIT_MULTITHREADED; but in case of AsyncRequests thread, we need
COINIT_APARTMENTTHREADED (because it's UI thread). That is set in
VistaFilePickerImpl::before - see comments there. So that thread has an
specific mode; possibly that's why DLLs loaded from it are released when it's
uninitialized ... the question is how to terminate the dialog properly =
terminate secondary (tertiary) thread with the windows.storage.dll processing.

It makes me think about this log I got when just launching an LO module
(Writer/Calc/Impress/...) (Win10 with master sources updated today):
warn:extensions.olebridge:17940:13228:extensions/source/ole/olethread.cxx:41:
CoInitializeEx failed (expectedly): Impossible de modifier le mode thread une

defined)
warn:extensions.olebridge:17940:13228:extensions/source/ole/olethread.cxx:61:

Searching "CoInitializeEx" gives:
https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/search?project=core=CoInitializeEx==full
some code use: "COINIT_MULTITHREADED"
other parts use: "COINIT_APARTMENTTHREADED"

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 106282] Crash in: windows.storage.dll when hitting cancel in file open dialog, when a file search is running

2019-11-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=106282

--- Comment #17 from Mike Kaganski  ---
The problem seems to be unloading of ExplorerFrame.dll in CoUninitialize() in
the AsyncRequests thread, while still running the code from it (executing
CFirstPageResults::RunBackgroundEnumeration - see comment 5).

However, simply removing CoUninitialize() from VistaFilePickerImpl::after()
doesn't help, possibly because it still gets called automatically when the
thread terminates (?).

Hope this would help.

Just for the record, I made another test with master sources updated today, I
tried with openGL enabled then disabled, no repro in both cases.

Also, I use Win10, version 1709 (16299.1331), it's not my machine so can't
update myself.

I did it according to the instructions, which no not mention the necessity:

The trace looks like for the soffice.exe factory wrapper.

Looks like internal / Microsoft Windows symbols; not code that we produce. Of
course - possibly we corrupt memory so that this happens. Any chance of trying
the same thing under 'DrMemory' ? so we can get a trace ? It looks like
destroying the file dialog doesn't clean up its running background threads.

Can you reproduce this in some other application like notepad ?

Maybe it'll help if I add a step-by-step description of how to reproduce:

1. Open a new Document in LibreOffice Writer
2. Click "Insert" > "Image" (filepicker opens)
3. Go to the top directory of your hard drive (or a similar big folder that
takes long enough to search)
4. Type some text in the search box in the top right corner (maybe something
random, crash happens only when no items get displayed and it is still
searching).
5. Click cancel while it is still looking for files and hasn't found something
yet, otherwise crash won't happen.
(6.) (It looks like the cursor moves a bit to the right, like a TAB, but I'm
not sure about that)

--> Crash

If you still can't reproduce, maybe your version/OS is not affected(?), I'm on
Windows 10 using the version I selected above in the bug report.

Did some further testing. Here are a few tips to reproduce:

Bug only happens, if you search in a big folder (for example your drive top
directory) and when it is still searching when you click "Cancel" (and when
there are no results yet).
Bug does not depend on the document, even happens in empty file.
