There is no great solution in the sense that under wayland you don't really
know the position of the toplevel application window on screen.

If you take the position of the menubutton within the dialog as an indicator
that those at the top half drop down and those at the top half drop up then
this example might look better, but format watermark which is generally small
enough to fit the drop down over its parent would then drop up and look weird.

Maybe we could consider the size of the dialog, and its position relative to
the toplevel application frame and the size of that and then fit the calculated
popover size against those to see which side is the best fit

[Bug 160574] Exportfilter Homepage / HTML does not work any more in 24.2.x release

2024-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160574

Yes, it's about Impress. I thought I put this correct unter "Components".

SVG graphics does not work for me, it must be a pixel-graphics file format. As
war as I can see some other people wrote in the referred (and other forums)
pretty much the same: A feature was present, where you could export all slides
as JPG graphics at once. Now, this feature is missing.

I totally agree, that probably nobody would export a real website with Impress,
so the function "HTML export" itself is really obsolete, but it would help me
(and as my impression is, a lot more people than just me) if there would be an
option in the JPG export filter to not just export *the selected* slide, but
rather exporting *all slides at once*. Also an Option with selection the output
resolution or the DPI to something like 100/300/600/900/1200.

[Bug 128216] UI: Relative paths should be displayed as relative

2024-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128216

Sorry, one more comment.
There are two reasons for relative paths, please distinguish:

a) Images that are inserted as links. In my opinion, this is an important
function.
Because external images can be edited (changed, updated) independently of the
document, and used also in other contexts, e.g. linked from html files.
But this links are resolved for example in an pdf document, in pdf there are
internally embedded.

b) Hyperlinks. These should either be file links, which are often necessary as
relative links. Or just www links. Relative hyperlinks to a file location also
work in a generated pdf on a website, that is opened with an internal browser
window or tab. And they work especially well for a downloaded pdf if the linked
files (e.g. javedoc files) are also downloaded to the correct local storage
location. This is in my mind a necessary feature to work independent of an
internet connection with downloaded documents.

The internet should not be presumed as available in all situations.

Bug is still the same. Might be the dialog changed a little bit. So here a new
advice what to do:
Have a look at "Crop".
Image Size → Width: 18,09 cm.
Have a look at "Position and Size".
Size → Width: 17,00 cm.

This is a wrong width. Image width is 18,09 cm.
If you don't recognize this and press "OK" width will be changed to 17 cm.

It is helpfully to see and/or select the absolute path with the known file
dialog window,
and also see a check box [x] store as relative path,
and then, if it is checked, see the resulting relative path.
That is a user friendly solution.

Yes, that's why show the resulting relative path, only if [x] store relative is
selected. A (stupid) user can now see what's happen, select and deselect, think
about and look a little bit in internet what a relative path is.
If the user cannot deal with it, one should deselect this option.
But I guess that many users know about relative paths.

>
> There is also another problem with displaying the relative path. Until the

This can be solved by an error message "Please save your document first"
instead of displaying the resulting relative path

[Bug 128216] UI: Relative paths should be displayed as relative

2024-04-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128216

It is very important that a path can be written directly, not just with a file
selection menu. In my experience, this is possible via the window's standard
menu, and it is also possible to write immediately in the "Filename" dialog box
without pressing [Browse]. That is fine. But I'm writing this note because some
people may think it's not necessary and remove this feature in the future.
Why is this important? Because a file path can be copied and pasted from
another tool (e.g. TotalCommander), and that's nice.

The second remark: If we may have a dialog field for a relative path, it should
also be possible to edit also this relative path, and after leave the field (or
pressing [apply] what is in the moment missing), and then see the resulting
absolute path in its dialog field. Then the user can input a desired relative
path, and look afterwards, where it is, and clarify afterwards, that it is ok.

And a third remark: Also in MS-Windows it is possible to have symbolically
linked folders (with MKLINK /J dst src\path").
This is a nice way to provide a link to a document and have another relative
link in a generated document, especially from a PDF file.
This works very well, I use it, but of course it requires a little knowledge of
the file system, not for a normal standard user.
But a document management administrator should have this knowledge.

The function should be covered with the macro. You can also use the code
editors. On Linux/KDE the text editor is Kate, having a powerful highlighting
features. Use "Copy as HTML" and paste the snippet into Writer. Or just
copy/paste from Visual Studio.

Eyal, your description of this 'issue' says a lot about what you do not like or
do not understand, but it does not make clear why these page styles do not work
for the job and make it easy to create alternate pages.

I accept if you say that it is of no use for RTL users. Or maybe there are
things that need to be improved to make it fit better for RTL use too?

Without a shared codebase for syntax highlighting support between them, they
seem like they would become disparate nightmares for any maintainer, and be
unnecessarily difficult to implement.

Many disussion, I have not read all, sorry. But regard:
If on opening a document the tool is busy with reading a lot of stuff, and
there are possible faulty relative paths because not all was yet copied, and
there comes some error messages, after a time, this is VERY FRUSTRATING. Please
do not so.
It is a small activity to force manually "update" if a update is necessary
because the document should be printed out, or read as a whole, or what ever,
This is a small activity.
And it is a expensive activity if you want to only look fastly in a document,
and there are loadings of externals, messages etc.

Do you know the German poem about the magic broom by Friedrich Schiller?
"Besen, Besen, sei's gewesen" = "Broom, broom, be it done". Only the sorcerer

here"

Example file with table caption

When a table has a caption added in Writer, the PDF/UA correctly exports that
as a caption object next to the table. But the PAC tool shows there is no real
connection between the two, the caption should wrap the table object.

1. Open attached example file
2. Export as PDF with the PDF/UA option enabled
3. Open the exported file in the PAC tool
-> Look into the Screen Reader Preview: the Caption objects don't wrap the
Table object.

Compare with second attachment that shows caption of an image: in PDF/UA export
the caption wraps the image and alt text object.

IIRC the default Writer template is hard coded (or it was); the user can set a

Just to make sure it's clear: I now see kf5 is the same as win, no distinction
necessary.

OK, let's flip it then, and ask that icons hidden in main menus should also be
hidden in context menus.

The Sheet main menu / context menu is a good example. Another example would be
"Rename Page" in Draw: no icon in Page menu, icon in context menu in Page pane.

> 157440 and the article
> https://www.libreofficehelp.com/export-libreoffice-impress-slides-images/).

But as noted comment 20 The "Export As Images" extension [1] already provides
this functionality of exporting an entire sd Draw or Impress document one image
at a time (though its SVG export is wonky).

Alternatively, the Impress Export to SVG generates a dated SMIL 2.0 compliant
[2] slide show of SVG images. But as for bug 117708 the feature needs rework.
Both in its UI, and compliance with more current SMIL 3.0

While the Draw Export... to SVG munges a multi-page drawing selection into a
single image (similar to the Extension's handling, likely same export filter).

No, I think it depends on the export format chosen, e.g. BMP looks to keep the

[Bug 160709] New: Problem print selection

   Summary: Problem print selection
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.6.6.3 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: thomas.kirsch...@dsb-gmbh.org

Description:
Error in the print area in Writer. When selecting the print area under "Area
and copies" and then under "Selection", the selected area in the text is
displayed and printed incorrectly. It is always displayed at the top edge of
the page.
Regardless of where the text is located in the document. If the text is
arranged in columns on a page, a separate column cannot be printed correctly.
Note: It should actually work in the same way as WordPerfect X3 (has not been
around for 20 years). I select a
text and in the printer menu the selection must already be marked (and not "all
pages") and in the print preview it must be displayed and then printed in
exactly the same way.
and then printed exactly as it appears on the screen.
