Do you think that the community can fix 1000 bugs in a timely manner? Think
twice. Reporting a bug takes 5-10 minutes, fixing a bug can take a week or
more. It would be better to categorize those documents, and reduce the
number of files, because I doubt that they exhibit 1000 independent,
unrelated bugs. It is enough to submit one document for a specific bug.

I forgot to mention, that there is a patch of mine in the queue.
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/19945/
It solves tdf#76239 -- at least according to my tests it works --
which has 30 duplicates in Bugzilla, so I think it is quite annoying.
It would be good to get a second review.

Generally, you can read configure.ac for the meaning of build
switches. It would eliminate the guesswork.

AFAIK there are no more Java Wizards in LO 4.3. Why would the app
suddenly die without Java? It does not die.

"Apps that use deprecated or optionally installed technologies (e.g.,
Java, Rosetta) will be rejected" -- says the App Store policy. I read
on internet that it was possible to bundle OpenJDK with some app and
it was accepted by Apple. It is not planned for LibreOffice, however.
On the other hand, it would be good to bundle Python, but the current
packaging scheme was rejected by review. Hopefully I can find a
solution for this one day.

There are two products in the App Store.

1. LibreOffice-from-Collabora is based on LibreOffice 4.3. It is not
EOL, it is the supported product of Collabora. There are many
backported bugfixes and backported stable features in it, which are
not in the latest and EOLed TDF LibreOffice 4.3.7.

2. LibreOffice Vanilla is basically the same as TDF LibreOffice 4.4.4.

In the future the for-pay LibreOffice-from-Collabora will always be
from the same source as the LibreOffice-from-Collabora product, which
is offered for the enterprise. LibreOffice Vanilla will always be the
latest TDF Fresh build, so probably we'll switch to 5.0 after it is
released.

Two kinds of bugs I can image.

1. Specific to Collabora builds. Hopefully there will not be many. So
I think there is no need to set up rules with a great effort. At the
beginning there will be some (please cc me in bugzilla), because it is
a new platform after all.

2. Normal bugs, that people happen to find in App Store builds. No
special handling is needed, obviously.

Please find below the build configurations Collabora used:

LibreOffice-from-Collabora:
--with-distro=CPOSX
--disable-ext-ct2n

--with-theme=tango
--without-help
--without-helppack-integration

LibreOffice Vanilla:
--with-vendor=Collabora

--without-java
--without-package-format
--enable-macosx-code-signing=xxx
--enable-macosx-package-signing=xxx
--with-external-tar=/Users/timar/lo/source/src

These can change in the future (and now that I'm reading through it, I
see silly things, such as enabling java extensions, then disabling
java), but this is what I used to produce these App Store builds.

It works for me, too, on Windows 7. I cloned the repo from cygwin with
git version 2.1.1, and I can start soffice.exe either from the
console, or from Explorer. Thanks for this Windows repo, it will be

IMHO hacking MSI is not easy by any means. It's probably easy only for
an installer expert. I'd add the AccessDatabaseEngine.exe to a
CustomAction and call this CustomAction in the install sequence. It
may work. But why add a 25MB 3rd party package to LibreOffice, which
will benefit a tiny fraction of users? We don't even bundle Java,
which has a wider audience. I think it's enough to add a paragraph to
help, with the link to this MS download page.

I use the bisected keyword to indicate the *exact* commit that caused
the regression. For bibisected we use the whiteboard, because we
cannot add keywords on freedesktop, but in new TDF bugzilla instance
bibisected can be a keyword, too.

What is the bug number? Sometimes a fix was not backported, because
the author did not have a 4.2 build to test and did not care that much
about the old stable branch. If this was the case, then we can still

See https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/10817/ If we do not package
quickstarter.exe, then the installer will not offer Quickstart feature
as an optional component, and the checkbox will not be displayed on
the last page of installer wizard. It is the cleanest solution and it
can be reverted easily, when the correct functionality is restored.

If you do "parallel install", then you have to install MSVC runtime on your own.

Yes, fdo#59613 is reproducible in 4.2 builds. It is very easy to check
it, you don't need RTL operating system or RTL UI language. Just set
the SAL_RTL_ENABLED environment variable before staring libreoffice.

Windows: start cmd, the command prompt in the 'program' directory of
LibreOffice.
> set SAL_RTL_ENABLED=1

Linux:
$ SAL_RTL_ENABLED=1 /path/to/libreoffice/program/soffice

You'll have an English RTL UI.

This one is still there in 4.1 and 4.2. BTW you can test RTL with
en-US builds, if you set the SAL_RTL_ENABLED environment variable.

It was my decision. Explanation in short: this optionality made little
sense, and was source of bugs, e.g. when Writer was not installed, LO
did not start, when Base was not installed, Bibloography menu in
Writer crashed, etc.

The built-in English grammar checker (Lightproof) does not know many
rules. It does not mean, that "B) grammar check is not usable at all".
It works as designed. Spell checkers and grammar checkers are UNO
components, so users don't have to use the standard, built-in ones,
but it is possible to use alternatives. Examples include Zemberek
(Turkish spell checker), Voikko (Finnish spell checker), Duden
Korrektor (German), and LanguageTool (grammar checker for many
languages).

The two "Language Settings" get different KeyIDs, therefore
LibreOffice cannot merge them runtime. The same would happen, if you
translated the two "Language Settings" string differently. This is not
a bug.

LibreOffice could not resolve the help URL in local help, so it tried
online. Of course, it did not find anything, because this help page
simply does not exits. The sad fact is, that developers usually do not
write help pages for new feautures. There are a few exceptions of
course, I don't want to ignore anybody's work.

Live Data Streams can be used to load real time data from the internet
to Calc, for example stock prices, and you can create live charts, or
make calculations based on the live data.

Only a few colors have name. Only those colors have name, that are
part of the current palette. Light green was removed from standard
palette, because Symphony's palette was adopted. It is super easy to
fix this "bug" with LibreLogo, we only have to choose a similar green
for the turtle, that has a name. For example instead of 00ff00 (former
Light green) we can use 00cc00 which is "Green 3". Send a patch
(change __FILLCOLOR__ in LibreLogo.py).

No, that's not the case. Tinderboxes are up and running and it was
never the responsibility of the SUSE staff to fix regressions reported
by Tinderboxes. Now we have a big change in the build system again,
the feature/instdir branch was merged, I think that it causes the

I don't recall that Documentation folks have ever contributed anything
to help, but I may be wrong. AFAIK they work on User Guides.

I think that the Photo Album feature is pretty much self-explaining. A
trivial UI reference help, such as "Press the Create button to create
the Photo Album" or "You can choose one from the three pre-defined
layouts, 1 image per slide, 2 images per slide or 4 images per slide"
is not very useful. What help text did you think of? I can easily add
a help page, if I'm provided with the text.

Administrative installation just extracts the embedded CAB file onto
the disk in the right folder structure. It does not write anything to
registry. WRITEREGISTRY property has no effect.

If I understand correctly, you would like to test custom
installations, where not all features are present, parallel. I don't
know, how to do that right. One option is to manually delete files
that belong to a given feature. I don't know how to manipulate
administrative images with MST files.

We run a ,NET check during install, and if the required version of
.NET is not installed, then we silently do not install CLI URE bridge.
The problem that people see, that we require .NET 2.0 in installer,
while the assemblies in fact require .NET 4.0. It is still under
discussion how to solve the situation. But for testers there is an
easy workaround. Well, there are two.

1. Install .NET 4.0.
-- OR --
2. Install LibreOffice from the command line:
msiexec /i LibO-Dev_4.0.0.0.beta1_Win_x86_install_multi.msi

Could you please report this bug to bugzilla.freedesktop.org? Please
attach these attachments there, set the regression keyword as well,
and put Miklos Vajna in CC. RTF regressions are usually fixed very
fast, it can be fixed until 4.0 release. No bug report - no fix,
sorry. Bugreporting does not work via mail.

Thanks in advance,

It is an empty feature, it does not install anything. However, it is
annoying that we have it there. We had the solution last week, but
unfortunately the fix or workaround was not applied.

David Tardon wrote on libreoffice dev list:
Ah, so we clearly need a better mechanism to select VCL plugins that can
be built on a given platform. Currently, --enable-gtk is on by default
independent of the platform, so it is set even on Windows or MacOS X,
where it has no sense. Of course, it has not had any visible effect till
now

I am going to fix it over the weekend. But in case the fix does not get
into 3.6 branch in time, a simple workaround is to add --disable-gtk to
the configuration for Windows and MacOS X builds.

Andras

The fact is that there are 4628 RESOLVED LibreOffice bugs in Bugzilla.
IMHO QA manpower could be used better, than to check and close these
bugs, not to mention the annoying bugmail flood. Maybe it does not
look nice from the theoretical point of view.

There have been 13 since last year (not 30). I've got 0-5 in one time,
currently I have 1, he is working on fdo#41737. I would love, if
students could find their own EasyHacks, but in most of the cases they
need guidance. They work on the project only for 6 weeks, and this is
very short. I was thinking of putting not-so-great coders on bug
triage, but I did not do that. They need to produce code in the first
place. When new students come, probably I'll do it a little bit
different, and have them work ~1 hour a day on bug triage. I think
that would make a difference.

On Windows, symbols are not embedded in executables but they are in
separate .pdb files. Please zip *.pdb from solver together and upload
it next to the installer, otherwise it will not be possible to produce

I prefer 4th, too. I think that in About box only end user information
should be shown. For QA people I started to hack a page, which is like
about:buildconfig in Firefox, it will have much more detail, including
configure options, compiler version, etc. I will continue to work on
that feature when I find some time.

In regards of "real users", in Hungarian forums I have already read
complains. :( People just cannot understand that rc3=final.

Yes, it is good, however, the only info I have is a French error
message in a message box. I'm not and I have never been a Windows

You use your Windows with an administrator account. It is not
recommended, however I know that many people do this. Therefore
LibreOffice can write into its own Program Files folder.

It is hard to remove files that were not installed by MSI. Not
impossible, but probably I won't spend time on that, because AFAIK
Windows 7 does not let this happen. I'm more interested in those
leftovers, if any, when you start LibreOffice with a non priviliged
user account.

We have 5 repositories now: core, binfilter, dictionaries, help, and
translations. Therefore there are 5 git commit IDs in the About box
separated by dashes. These are good identifiers of the build, at least
these uniquely identify the source code that the build was made from.
Of course the outcome of build process depends on the configure
switches, too. Maybe we should hack something in like
about:buildconfig in Firefox.

When you see the full build log of
master~2011-12-02_22.36.35_libodev35.exe, you will see the git commit
IDs there, but I agree that it is hard to find.

No, build numbers do not bump at each commit, they are bumped before
releases (beta, rc). 4f11d0a is the commit ID that git produces. It is
not in the source code.

LibreOffice 3.5 will not unpack anything to desktop. But we can't
change the past... :)

You can check what's included and what's not, when you visit
for example http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?qt=range&q=4f11d0a
Those magic numbers in About box are git commit IDs.

It is not possible to bump a build number each time a build is
produced, because many people produce builds, not only one central
build server.
Released betas and RCs of course come from a single source (i.e. TDF)
so you will see their version form their file names.
